okay- maybe it was that, but I got inspired to work again ( I also just finished an elaborite CA peice I was working on for another project)

amyway. Here's something I just doodled for fun. It's an arabesque version of Harbor life- for a more deserty town. I'm not going to finish it now because the project has more pressing isues. But enjoy.

http://media.putfile.com/-desertlife

And here's a new one in the works for Goldmoor explore. It's roughly based on The Path most Trudged. but I think it sounds quite different.

I like the second one a lot, it's nice and easy on the ears, the melody isn't as angular as the first one. :-)

Well, I thought that it went without saying that Desert life is intended for town music- hence more lively. And Drygold is meant for explore.

Dry gold has a great ambient sound. It'll definitely work as explore music. :)

I think Desert Life would indeed make good town music!

I like them both, and can't wait to here them finished, though I think in desert life the oboe/english horn at the beginning could be a little quieter, as it has quite a piercing sound it stands out a little too much at the moment.

Edit: Please excuse my terrible grammar! (This applies to all my posts in the future) :D

I dont usualy post more than 1 WIP- it's a bit of a unwritten rule of mine. But since it's been so long- I wanted you all to know that your beloved head of S&M is still alive and working on stuff for TR

http://media.putfile.com/Dry-Gold-WIP-2

This is nearly done. I'm thinking of making the Voila solo at the end into that strange instrument from Nedic Voices.

I really like it! Though I do feel a little 'crowded' by the thick string sounds, so you may want to turn the reverb down a little or something...

Very nice, I think it will fit the game very well! The harmonies are still a bit muddy at some places, especially from 0:07-0:20. Sounds like there is some horns or bassoons playing small intervals, or even full chords in a low register, maybe one of the low voices is even doubling part of the melody? It would become a lot clearer if you'd spread out those chords over a larger register, remove some of the instruments from the low register, or use the low winds to double the bass line in the strings.

When listening through the whole piece, the ending feels a bit abrupt. Towards the end the harmonic rhythm gets much slower, until the last two chords, which feel to short. The second last, Bb-major, is ok as a passing chord, but the last chord feels like it should be prolonged to better suit the rest of the piece. The intuitive way to do it would be to repeat it three times. Of course there is also other possible ways to do it.

But these are just minor issues, otherwise I think it works very well!

Its really coming to shape, Macar!

My only comment is this: This piece belongs to the mountains, not Goldmoor. So when we're doing a mountainous region this'll be first up :)

Good work!

I feel like a little explination is in order. I took off for break, so obviously I couldnt compose without my own computer. Since getting back I havent done a whole lot eithehr. The reasons for this are twofold. First of all, I've been lazy and playing a lot of videogames. Secondly, and more importantly, I've been awaiting my coppy of Sib 5 and Garratin Personal Orchestra in the mail (it's been more than a week, so I need to call them at some point).

With a new program, and the fact that I'm taking a theory class this semester, I'm hoping that I'll be inspired to compose like never before.

Hey Macar don't worry. My explination is worse: I couldn't get JABB and sib 5 to work and I was too lazy to keep trying so I watched youtube videos and stuff.

I know that once we (or you) get going everything will be fine. If anything the Music dep are ahead of everyone else in Goldmoor (cept CA :P) with 50% of our work done (not including dungeon tracks).

Ahhh.. Good memories :)

If you figure out how to use playback devices and go throught the mixer please tell me how to set Garritan to work fully (not just sound essentials and that stuff). The tutorial videos didn't help me at all. I think I'll have to re-install GPO maybe if you can't help.

Sorry to spoil all your fun but I've been at this for weeks :(

I really only have TR and RR as regular things. But I also make occasional contributions to www.santharia.com. This project is a one time thing- I've been asked to write some music for a community theatre production of Midsummer Night's Dream. Never mind the fact that my mother is the director- I'm just glad for the experience and exposure.

New sound set came today and I had to try it out. Came up with something that could be used. I think it's best suited to dungeon music but it could be used for outdoor in a desert region. Tell me what you think.

Thanks :)

Its definately going to be a Desert Track. Its perfect. Its a little to bright to be a dungeon piece, though. What is the instrument at around :25 that shows up some other times aswell. Opposing what Haplo said, this does not resemble african at all. This is Hammerfell.

Another thought: what about being a Quagmire piece. It has this 'dreamy' quality to it which would fit almost every nightmare without sounding out of place.

To make it a dungeon piece: Remove any non percussion instruments. Crank the reverb a fair bit and slow it down.

To make it more explore: Add more of that instrument that I mentioned earlier. Maybe a duet between them. And please keep the state, mood and quality that it has currently.

If I removed the precussive istrments it would be almost completely silent, lol.

The stringed instrument is an Indian Sarangi (I got sibelius world)

btw- something that might help you with your problems. I went into play->playback devices and made sure that there were two coppies of Kontact player (just choose it in the left colomn and click add) and then make sure to set the dropdown boxes so that one is Sibsounds essesentials, and the other is GPO then when you want to set an instrument to do one or the other you just have to change it's properties in the mixer from auto- to the correct VI. Hope that helps.

And thank you, that will help later (hopefully I will be able to run JABB, GPO and Sound Essentials all at the same time) but I really need to get my but moving and re-install GPO - that way I will know whats wrong and right :)

Thanks anyway!

Have you ever heard the Pulse soundtrack, by Honda? The soundtrack is basically music from local areas around the world, mostly African. This piece sounds a LOT like many of those tracks. (and yes all the Pulse music is authentic) So that's kind of the reason why I said it sounds like African.

Also because I've been to some percussion conventions where there are pros who do authentic African drumming and it's similar, and also because when I heard it all I could think was 'African'. For some reason. Just my inbred convictions

Finaly, I dusted this off and finished it. I titled it a long time ago after a plant I drew for the Northmoors, since the fieldstar is no more can someone suggest the name of a goldmoor plant to name this peice? After I change the name I'll add it to GM music.
