Hey, very nice project you have here

Post by omegapirate2000 »

Found a link to this site through Lady Nerevars sig and I must say I am quite pleased there is a project like this underway, I'd actually thought of recreating unvisited areas of Tamriel (Hammerfell, specifically, Oblivion has little in the way of desert like climates, so I'd assumed Hammerfell would be an excellent contrast), but what I've found here is much more ambitious and to your credit, actually doable.

So, let me introduce myself, I am an 18 (Nearly 19, give it one month >_>) year old male attending university and majoring in game development and entrepreneurship, currently on my second year. I've toyed around with the CS for quite a while, although I've only ever publicly released one of my mods, which you can find here:

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=3207

Fairly simple, but again, it's the only thing I've finished worth releasing.

So far I can do interior cells, exterior cells, very basic scripting, and some modeling I suppose (Although I use maya for the moment, I can use blender as well, it's just that maya is alot easier to use on a laptop than blender is, when I get a good desktop I'll let you know.), I'd very much like to work on texturing as well if I can get a tutorial for it, I have photoshop CS3, so I can do the texturing if you'll teach me how.

And really, my skills will only grow over time, since it is a 4 year program, and I still have alot more to learn.

Also, I can be a creative mind, if thats what your looking for, always have some idea or another floating around in my head.

So, if you want to get me started on anything, give me a shout.

Oh, and here are some examples of 3d modelling work I've done in the past, well, actually, this first model is under construction at the moment, it's for an animation assignment, where I have to make a custom vehicle:

Although it's pretty annoying as my vehicle is spherical in nature and I have a 1200 poly cap on the model so it makes my job a little bit tougher.

And heres some stuff I've done in blender in the past, although I haven't touched it in a while:

Some more blender stuff, although to practice modeling/texturing I decided to make some bosses from The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker:

If you want to help with us, plz show your skills by making a mod or a model, like that one you've uploaded.

Loving the Zelda ones, look very similar to those gallery models you get in game. Awesome.
P.S. Please don't make handbags, wallets, belts or shoes out of Orix

Welcome. I'm a bit of a newbie here myself, but I do like the look of your Zelda models.

Ok, well I took the liberty of picking something to work on and spent a small amount of time in maya working on a bowl of some kind inspired from the bowl in this concept drawing here (the one on the bottom right)

looking nice :), can you upload your file so that I can have a look at it? In the meantime, try to model something more complex like this concept by Elfane: http://img145.imageshack.us/my.php?image=plantlifego8.jpg

Yeah, no problem, I'll try and get some work done on that one.

So heres the model, it's in maya binary format so you'll probably have to import it into whatever you use.

And for the model, for some reason maya is just not letting me extrude what I have to give the bowl thickness D:

Hey! I see some very nice work here :) Keep it up. In the future please upload your files in something that is more flexible. I can't access that file, because I don't have maya. We're modding for morrowind and oblivion, so the best format would be nif meshes and dds textures. But you can go with .3ds, .obj and .bmp too
PoHa: how can we best this trio of trouble? who will save us from this menace of sub-par models? what will we do?
PoHa: I know! we'll shoot an Aro at them
Aro: you have only one Aro missile!
PoHa: yes, but its heat seeking and quite possibly indestructible

I can't seem to locate it in your utilities page and the CS wiki doesn't have a downloads page that I can find.

I'm also using maya 2008, so I'm not sure whether the plugin you speak of will work with my version.

the utilities page is here. for some reason its not listed in the text, but you can find the link in the left sidebar. here is the wiki page on exporters.

im not sure what version 2008 is, but it aughta work me thinks.

Unfortunately, it won't even install unless a the version it needs is installed on the computer, so that rules that out D:

I guess we'll have to wait for them to release a plugin for 2008 then.

alternitively you could download one of the other mayas and export (or even build) in that. its a bit more work though.

ill convert the uploaded meshes for our reviewing pleasure later today, i should have goten around to it earlier.

Yeah, I used to have 8.5, but I got 2008 when I found out that my 2008 model wouldn't load into 8.5 D:

But I now have the pretty much finished vehicle from my first post, if you don't count texturing and animation:

Yeah, even the second most recent version won't run 2008 models, it doesn't seem to like any other maya versions.
