Diary of a Ranting Artist

Post by Burunduk »

Newbie? Well, it's true.

Hello! I'm a lurker here... umm... I always admired this project, until now, from afar. Consider me to be a helpful adoring fan. :)

What can I do? I am a high-school freshie, a lone-wolf indie (hobbyist) game developer, who's unfortunately, not very committed to finishing his own projects. I can code in all manner of web-related languages, as I've illustrated in the "Webmasters come forth and be heard", but I unfortunately do not have the time for that at the moment, for I am otherwise occupied in that regard. (I'm sorry.) I can also draw a little... here are a few quick samples of my most recent work:

1 1/2-hour Abandoned Exoskeleton Concept for Cthulhu Game

Left to Right: 1 hour Random Halloween Monster, 30-min Gorilla, 15-min Cybernetic Pirate-Ninja

Note: I had to explain to someone that I meant to reverse the thumbs on #2. Just noting that its intentional.

I can also write some pretty good stories once given a very vague subject... I DMed a few DND adventures, but they didn't go to well because my players were unyielding in everything, before the story even developed. Nowadays, I have trouble coming up with ideas on the spot though. I suppose that if I sat down and just started typing, I could turn up something good for you all to see, but I regret I really don't have the time right now.

I am moderately knowledgeable in TES lore. AKA, I am someone who reads random in-game books and does some poking around the UESP Wiki and TIL from time to time.

What else... well, I can learn scripting, I am sure, for I know languages quite a few tiers above TES's. But seeing as I'm the programmer for our indie group, I'd really like to develop my art skills here as I help the project move along.

I'm best when I have a direction to go, even if I myself created that direction some time back, and when I'm given an opportunity to work on my own from then on. I'd also like to not make any deep commitments to the TR team. As I said, I'd simply like my practices to be helpful. Perhaps later I can take a more active role, when I have more time.

Thanks for reading through my rants. Umm... if you want to test my skills, order something, and I'll make it for you.

Really, anything that you could do for our website would be great. Your art is nice, and I admire the lurkers that decide to join. (I did that myself. :P )

That only thing that I can ask is if you write. If you can, you can PM me something of yours and I'll review it and post it here. If not, then Lute will be through sometime to comment.

Thank you. I'll do what I can, but I'll need some pointers as to how TR's system works from someone of experience.

Certainly, although it may take a day or two, depending on the subject matter. I take it you'd like it to be set in the TES world, yes? If you have a preference, would you like me to write some fiction, an essay, a new legend, or something else?

It's probably a good idea to limit me for this one, just to see what I can do within limits... but I am not trying to put words under your fingers. :P

Umangei dumangei! Welcome to TR! It's always a pleasure to see a new artist interested in helping out :D

Right off the start, I like the work you have here, and I'm quite interested as what ideas you want to bring in The Elder Scrolls universe. Feel free to open up a self-titled topic in the Concept Art Forum - we're always happy to see new work :]

Hm! Well that was quick; thank you, Haplo. If I may though: if I submit work of sufficient quality in another area of development, will I be eligible for promotion for that area as well? Because I'd still like to fulfill Nanu Ra's request...

Thanks for the warm welcome, Lutemoth. :) I have a little issue: I've been looking at the Concept Art forum, and I feel that I should start by submitting for the FCG requests... but they are almost all out of date! I am not sure if "suggestions" are still needed. Well, are they?

On that matter, please tell me if I'm wrong in my understanding: concept art threads can contain any lore-correct art related to the province we are working on, but other than that, they can be about anything [within those limits]..?

Let me answer some of your questions. But first. Welcome to the forums! And, uhm, congratulations!

Yeah, if you submit work in another area, you can get promoted to that area too :) Nobody's gonna prevent you from working for the TR. Well, if you're willing to do some specific concepts, we propably can find some claims for you. Check out the object of tamriel design section. And always ask if there's something bothering you :) At the moment we aren't really looking for any additional fauna. Architecture, clutter, clothes, maybe some armour... That's what we need I believe.
PoHa: how can we best this trio of trouble? who will save us from this menace of sub-par models? what will we do?
PoHa: I know! we'll shoot an Aro at them
Aro: you have only one Aro missile!
PoHa: yes, but its heat seeking and quite possibly indestructible

yea, a lot of FCG things are quite out of date. i belive you can still submit stuff though as long as they are still up in sticky. you can always ask if you dont know what to do. try comming to the IRC, we can help you there with what needs to be done.

Not quite back yet...

Post by Burunduk »

Hello, I'm sorry for this ginourmous necro-post, I'm not sure about the etiquette here toward this sort of thing.

But, um, I just came back to apologize for my premature activism. I've been pretty much swamped since the time I joined (except for winter break & a bit after) and we have a lot more high-caliber schoolwork now since the year is coming to an end. Plus all my usual "extra-cirrucular" thingymajigs that really do not need to be said.

Basically, I won't be able to help out until the very end of the school year. (End of May.) Sorry.

On the bright side, I've been practicing my art.
