[FCG]: Hammerfellian Temples

Too much gothic influences. Too high. I really would prefer what Corwyn has designed, just octagonal.
PoHa: how can we best this trio of trouble? who will save us from this menace of sub-par models? what will we do?
PoHa: I know! we'll shoot an Aro at them
Aro: you have only one Aro missile!
PoHa: yes, but its heat seeking and quite possibly indestructible

From what I've heard, the Yoku are a lot more casual than Imperials with their religion. They'd probably only come to the temple when they need to and get what they need to do done, and then leave again. As for the priests, they'de probably get by with using fans or something, or chanting some yoku-y word to Tava to send a cold draft into the temple.

Making unique temples for each city isn't reasonable. And the previous temples from corwyn aren't really usable as much as the last one is. And I don't think that octagons have something special to do with Yoku.

my answer is, and always will be: If someone's willing to. If there is anyone willing to draw regional temples, and there is someone willing to model it, and there is someone willing to import it, well.. you get the idea. Where there's a will, there's a mod

It is sketchup. I can tell that.
Try throwing on some textures, Harke.

I like that roof/terrace thing! If it was turned into a model, it should definitely be a place you can go to. It could have some plants and statues and stuff, with benches for the faithful to sit and meditate. Probably a popular spot for meeting between lovers, too.Harke the Apostle wrote:My latest temple concept:

If the temple is modular, Tava's temple can have four doors (four corners of Tamriel), Morrwha's could have a terrace with flowers and benches on the roof....etc.Gez wrote: I like that roof/terrace thing! Heh, lol. Not quite what I expected(with texturing). You could make a better use of textures provided for google sketch up(or was it an optional download, can't recall...). Because OoT textures require manual mapping and they won't look good without it. It's just an advice for you though.

I did rescale them a little so they wouldn't look as horrible...Gnomey wrote:I think that the textures are just used to show what sort of texture would go where, not how the textures are actually supposed to look like.
At the same time I do admit that TR quality texturing is beyond me at this moment.
I could make the textures the way you suggested, aro101, although I don't quite understand what good it would do TR.
You don't have make textures if you don't want to... My point was, google sketch up textures will look a lot better than oblivion/tr textures on a not manually mapped model. Even if you're designing something for TR. Basically because our textures are supposed to be mapped manually and google sketch up does not support this. Accept that as a fact if you do not understand this.

Reviving the thread since we need new CA. Not for the temple as a whole this time, but for separate modular meshes. The idea is from Adanorcil and he epxlains it in the claim thread which can be found here: http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/old_forum/viewtopic.php?t=18762&start=40
His post is up at the second page and rather long, so you can't miss it. I already tried to think up some modular pieces(look at the last 4 posts for renders). We need arches(for the outer ring of pillars), pillars, windows, doorframes, frescoe-frame-thingys, maybe little "niches" for statues, and other creative architectural concepts.
Important thing to note is that it has to include some sort of Yoku art, check Lutemoths thread for examples: http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/old_forum/viewtopic.php?t=15158 (look under architecture)
If you can draw and have an idea you deem good then grab your pencil and some paper, do some fast sketching, and put it here.(There better be some concept artists around)

Here's a few ideas I drew today. Sorry to say I'm all out of graph paper, so things may not be very symmetrical.
Also, I don't have any clue as to what scale we are talking about. How large will this temple be?
Some windows. I think it would be nice to have such a window depiction of each god that will get a temple.

A pillar. It's octagonal, with a design like the one I made on four sides of it's surface.

Got some more for you. Arch + a few random door frames. Maybe I'll do some more frames, but I have no clue what you want the interior to look like so they'll probably stay as random as this.

im not sure how exactly to handle it, but i think that we should really expose the player to all the minor gods in raga mythology. maybe have small shrines within the main temple dedicated to some of them? i liked how the morrowind triloths told a small story, we could do a similar factoid (in suitably redguard fashion) for the minor deities.
in terms of interior pieces, i'd like to see an altar or two designed. maybe one that is really elaborate, carved and painted, and another one that is a simpler version for poorer/less devout areas.

I kinda like the idea of interior shrines which can contain a small god-statue. I'd just model some small statues for several gods and the modders could place them in the shrines themselves. I already have a bunch of those statues(some made from Lute's concepts but never used, that housegod thingy, and those statues that sit on top of the pillars I recently modelled for the temple) either wip or completely finished in my documents anyway, shouldn't be hard to modify them so that they represent several gods.Lady Nerevar wrote:im not sure how exactly to handle it, but i think that we should really expose the player to all the minor gods in raga mythology. maybe have small shrines within the main temple dedicated to some of them? i liked how the morrowind triloths told a small story, we could do a similar factoid (in suitably redguard fashion) for the minor deities.

If you make mini idols, they could also be used with street peddlers around major temples.
Maybe in Hammerfell, in order to get a blessing like in MW or OB, the player deposits incense in the central censer of the shrine which then casts on the player.
The idols for shrines would include: generic male ancestor, generic female ancestor, generic god, and pantheon gods.
Another peddler idea-they sell weird amulet thingies in the shape of body parts-an arm, a leg, an eye, genitalia. The idea is you leave them at the altar and that part will be healed. What if the temple peddlers sell bodypart amulets.

Had a similar idea for a deity idol fountain in the center of a domed temple with a wide round skylight casting a nice volumetric beam on it. Started a speed painting but it got over worked. :\ Going to try again tomorrow. Having a grad party tonight lol.

well, since we cant heal specific bodyparts i'd say that bodypart amulets are out. general religious paraphernalia - amulets, incense, peaceable statues, etc. - are a pretty cool idea, but maybe not in every city.

Maybe the amulets could be physically symbolic of an ailment. Like a heart for regenerating physical health, a stomach or liver for poison or disease, a head or brain for damaged intelligence, a hip and thighs for endurance, lower leg and knee for speed, a food for agility, an arm for strength, a hand for willpower, an eye for luck, mouth for personality or something along those lines. Then its not the boring click on the alter and poof! Your afflictions have been healed!!!
Hm, I guess it sounds nice. Wouldn't take too much work either. It might complicate the whole temple/healing stuff a bit too much though. I think we should keep it understandable for the player.Lighter Than Some wrote:Maybe the amulets could be physically symbolic of an ailment. i actually like this idea. im not sure how exactly it would work though. i guess the altar could be a container and a script would then check what was put in and cure the appropriate area. or we can have them cure on equip while in the temple, and replace the amulet with a purely decorative option.

Ok so this was what I meant by an underground temple. It would technically be underground but the entrance would be at the base of a cliff or some such, carved straight into the stone. Color scheme wise it would be some sort of yellowish red stone like antelope canyon.
http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q259/IridePow/2007-11-18_GrandCanyon/31_Antelope_Canyon_Entrance.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3187/2980683706_cb55ca7612.jpg
Not carved by water though. By hand. In the center of the ceiling is a circular skylight. Directly below that is a fountain of whatever deity(Small streams branch from the main fountain to troughs where the floor meets the wall). In this case I chose Sep. The patterns/motif around the main entrance and around the fountain reflect who that god/goddess is. There are also recesses in the walls for alters, sleeping mats and tables with food for traveling pilgrims. The bowls around the fountain hold incense. Scattered nearby are strange offerings like fresh meat, fish, flowers and those body part amulets. Further out there are those little prayer mats and rugs. Large rectangular colorful drapes are pinned to the ceiling as well.
I think this is how you would write it. I haven't touched TES script for ages.. [placeholders are in italics, dashes to show the nesting because the forum wont allow space spam]

I don't know scripts for the slightest bit but the idea looks awesome to me. The lightrays shining from above is especially epic.
I was just wondering if the amulets wouldnt complicate everything a bit too much for the player, yet it seems doable and neat, so I'd call this totally awesome too. Great stuff Lighter.
