Hello!

Post by .Providence. »

Hey guys. Pretty cool project you have going here. I wanted to know if you need any help right now. I can do mostly anything. My skills with the Construction Set are a bit shoody seeing as I haven't used it in about a year now, but I can get right back up to speed. I can some of the other stuff too, though. I can do 3d and maybe some music and possibly some voice acting and whatever. I don't know what I'm supposed to do to become a TR Modder though, so if you can just point me in the right direction...I hope it doesn't involve some initiation or test!

WELCOME to the forums providence!

No test is required for sound or music, but a sample of your work is asked for. If it is up to our standard, then we will promote you. If not, then we will point out errors and you will fix them untill eventually it rises to our standard, and then a promotion will probubly be at hand.

Good Luck! :)

I'd love to see some of your 3d work. There's always lots of things to do for people who like to model, or are willing to learn. :)

Hello :) Hmm, with what software do you work in 3d graphics? I recieved your PM and I'm very happy to see a person that wants to do something useful, just from the start. Very nice from you. I can give you a concept of architecture. I could give you some meshes that need mapping and texturing, I can give you premade weapons that need to be improved. I can give you some vanila stuff to retexture. So, what would you like to do? :)

Thanks for the welcome. Aro101, I am better at the modelling aspect than the texturing aspect, although I can learn how to texture if need be. Maybe an architecture concept would be good. I use 3Ds Max 7 for modelling, but I have a friend who has Maya, so I could use that too if the need arises.

I believe 3ds max 7 is good enough. An important thing to do by the way is downloading the nif scripts, (I hope they work with max 7, but otherwise you can export it to another common format and let someone else export it for you to .nif) which allow you to export models to the .nif format, which is used by the Oblivion engine. Great :) Hmm, I also feel stronger with meshes. But I'm sure you'll also get better with texturing if you have a stay at TR. We always try to help eachother and modding duos form quite often in our modelling department. I think I got something for you. Let's see...
Hammerfell Temple.

Should be octagonal. Make a new mesh.
Check the discussion thread
http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/old_forum/viewtopic.php?t=18587
Don't worry about any modular talk before at least one building variation is completed.
Yea, this will be a good task for you :)

I could give you also the bridge, but that's rather a claim for someone that is a bit more involved with TR, however, if you want it...
Goldmoor big bridge(Modular). Big enough to span the rivers of this region.

http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/8619/sidebo8.jpg
"look at how the walls are built with the arch in the middle and the pillars beside it. Take away what is below the arch and you have a bridge(don't take that too literally, read next quote)"
"Make a new mesh except that upper part which can be just copied from the walls. Try adding some new textures for the bridge to make it not too much simillar to the walls set. Modular(cut it in the middle of the pillars). Set should include:
-Long bridge part(middle of the second drawing)
-Short bridge part(the ones on the side of the long part obviously Razz)
-Bridge end(the floor of it should be under a degree.)"
I highly recommend you too choose the temple :)

Yes...I will get started right away on the temple, and the other showcases I will be working on. However, it may take me a little bit more time than usual because of family obligations I have.

Alright! A 3D Model of said Hammerfel Temple. http://www.members.optusnet.com.au/carbon140/temple2.gif

Yes, I realize that it does not look very much like the concept. It is supposed to be an octagon as I was told. It is also untextured because I am really bad at texturing. I will try my best, however, to make the textures look good, but it will probably take longer than the model itself.

EDIT: I just saw some errors. Namely with the method of uploading. I put these on imageshack, and copied the code for "forum embedding". I hope its not taking your bandwidth, I'll change it on the double if it is. Furthermore, there is a large shape off to the side of one or two of the buildings. Pay no attention to that :S

This is a front view of the Temple

This is an up close look at the mechanism that is holding the tent up. It can be refined, no doubt, but it is the only way I could think of such a thing to be held up.

A top view

If you don't like the tents, this is how it looks without it. (I think the tents would be a nice addition, with salesmen or free giveaways of charms or symbols or something of the sort. Maybe if scripting can make this a possibility, there can be an outdoor sermon of some sort! Meh, sorry for the rant.)

Looks like a good model from what I can see. But aro would prefer if you found some whey to upload it.

For the things that hold the tents up, try nails ;) They're a lot more logical.

Alright, nails then. That's really the idea behind the mechanism, but the nails are symbolized by those cones for now. I'll make nails later.

Also: the nails don't have to poke out, they can be pushed fully in.

First of all, you went too far away from the concept. I don't expect from modellers to clearly follow the concept if they can put up some better ideas into it, but in this case, you were given a very clear and a good concept which you should transfer directly into a 3d shape. Plus, this looks reallt primitive so far. Far too primitive for an Oblivion mesh. For example, you should try smoothing out the edges and adding more detail(and also the details should have a natural look, the ones you have used are just slighty modified max primitives or even not modified primitives).

Of course I didn't mean that to be a final mesh! It's just a simple outline of how the temple would look as an octagon. If you need the concept to be directly transferred into a 3d model, than the temple cannot be an octagon. What do you need me to do?

I thought I made myself clear. Transfer everything from the concept, but make it octagonal. That's all.
