Ranger Guild

Post by Shadow_Ranger »

K, this somewhat Tolkien Style, but come on, A ranger is a class in a lot of RPGs. Neverwinter nights... anyway, would that kinda guild work for TR? It wouldnt need its own provence or anyhting, but maybe in some forest there could be a cave, and in the cave a seceret trapdoor into a underground castle, that goes down instead of up, and you join, think like Morag Tong. And then like the thieves guild, in some of the Taverns there could be these guys in dark corners who normaly wouldnt talk to you. But if you have say , a ring or whatever, thy will talk to you. I ahve been working on this mod since before i founf TR and was wondering if it would fit in with it.

A faction has organization; a Ranger is just someone with a particular skill set, not a specific allegiance.

To put it another way. . . people in the Fighters Guild aren't "fighters" - they're from a variety of classes. And not everyone who fits the combat profile is in the Guild, just those who have a common interest [eg employment]. I don't think everyone with the skills of a Ranger would have a common goal, and Rangers are combat-based enough to find employment in the Fighters Guild, if that's the sort of thing they want. And as I understand them, Rangers are solitary by nature -- not the type to organize.

Actually in an unofficial expansion pack made by a private website I have called The Elder Scrolls 3: The Sea of Destiny has a ranging guild, I have not found a way to join them yet and I do not intend to go to the construction set to find the dude who will let you. But there is this huge base full of rangers. Now I know you are refering to the wandering ranger in which a guild would be against their nature. But this guild refers to their combat preferance lol.

ok how about certain area's where rangers usually stop for rest or to leave a signal for other rangers who pass by? dosnt necessarily have to be a guild just meeting spots to find other Rangers

what the that spot do? would a note be left behind for anyone to discover it and them? for it to really work it would need a form of hiarchy, which campfires do not present.

Actually, a Ranger guild sounds like a great idea to me - perhaps combining the skills of Ranger & Druid into one group of people, who look after the wilderness, act as scouts for various people, look after travellers, hunt dangerous animals, etc.

i think it would make a better hero-for-hire type of guild than a secret meeting guild. kind of like a fighters guild but with the freedom to choose your clients.

well maybe not exactly a note but some kind of marking or symbol indicating that Rangers passed through here and only rangers know of this sign unless some person found out from a ranger

Ranger Guild

Post by Indoril »

In most games, rangers are woodsman and hunters and agents. These are already available classes. So it should probably be more of a hunters and agents guild.
Stendarr is the God of Mercy and Justice. Therefore, he must also be the bearer of Duck Tape, for only Mercy and Justice can use Duck Tape for the Good of man.

I kind of doubt that the Rangers would actually be guild. A guild tends to tie someone down, and the Rangers are more the "Lone Wolf" type of people. A guild doesn't really seem necessary.

what if you meet a ranger in a tavern and he asks you to help him do stuff and if you do that stuff he points you in the direction of another ranger and so on.what do you think?

Rangers would probably be found in temples of the god of travel (Can't remember the name). So in high rock and cyrodil they could be found pretty easily.

Maybe it should be not Rangers guild but Hunters Guild ? And why Rangers can't create their own guild ? "Lone Wolf" type of person. OK. But in the Guild they can have a rest, buy equipment, receive quests etc. And than complete quest by theirselves. But anyway I think Hunters Guild is better.

A hunting lodge maybe? just a little hut in a forest or a plain where travellers can rest and occaisionally have some rangers or hunters stay over for a while?

there could be a sort of route for certain area or trails where you'll find some hunters after game or rangers and you could join in the hunt etc

i think it would lend a real feel of not being the ONLY adventurer in tamriel if there were such things
cause it can get IMO annoying at being the only person moving outside of a town 'cept for enemies and people whove been mugged/chased/stripped by angry witch (nord only) etc

I think a ranger's guild would be more of a place for an outpost than a guild. The fighter's guild would have rangers since rangers are basically mercenaries and travellers who go around doing fighting jobs. A ranger's guild should have outposts on roads in the wilderness between cities a while away. A place where rangers can stay for the night and drink a bit at the bar, then the next morning set out again. The point of a guild is maybe rangers can join and pay a certain amount of money and they get to use the guild's services.
