I never cheat. :P

I could settle for Helnim. (Though we'd be going with the story that the town was originally a Dunmer place recolonised by Imperials, due to Helnim being the name of the local grasslands. Presumably this doesn't conflict with anyone's preexisting plans for Darconis?)

Just so you guys know, Bodrum is mentioned in books so it's a canonical name.

And please take Reich out of Reich Parkeep. Reich is German for Empire and I don't remember reading about a "Parkeep Empire" taking over Morrowind.

The name Draloris rocks. If anything, perhaps the city was established by the Dralor family and that's where the name came from. IIRC there was a Dralor family in Morrowind, though I don't remember if they were Telvanni. Doesn't matter, last names are last names. Not every Dralor will be related.

Park-eep isn't great either, it sounds like an apprentice driver trying his first parallel park.

Apparently, Reich means city in whatever language Beth's random generator spoke, because there's also a Reich Gradkeep in High Rock. This translates to "German-Realm Russian-City English-Castle"... In lore, it has been retconned that the Reich Whatkeeps are cities founded by the Nords during their conquest attempts of other provinces.

Doesn't matter much. I'd propose changing it to something like Reshmar Keep or some more convincing rough Dunmerisation of the original name.

There's an Ordinator Knight Commander Enar Dralor in Ghostgate, a Nevrasa Dralor that you escort to the Field of Kummu, a Dralor Manor in the Redoran Compound of Vivec (property Beldrose Dralor, Treasurer of House Redoran), a Rindral Dralor, shipmaster at Molag Mar, and Guldrise Dralor, a savant offering training services in the Dren Plantation.

And also, Seler Favelnim's wife is named Dralora, so Dralor can also be a first name.

Look, it's not gonna be Draloris. I think its a crap name, but more importantly it has no basis on 'lore' as in the map, because Helnim Wall is Darconis, and Draloris is Tel Muthada, so there's no excuse in that department either. Helnim is a) better, and b) satisfies the 'lore'.

If you want to come up with a 'non-lore' name, then do something better than Draloris.

Otherwise, I'm going with Helnim, which satisfies the mapophiles and is just better.

blackbird wrote: BTw: maar mora reminds to much to a commercial when i say this name in Dutch. Maar means but in dutch and mora is company of some croquettes.
As I said, I personally think as Maar Mora as a good name; repeat that many Morrowind names would probably sound funny if I only would literally translate them in my language, but I never mix Morrowind and Italian when playing. Morrowind is Morrowind, Italian is Italian.
Then if Maar Mora fits lore, is a good name.

Bloodthirsty Crustacean wrote:Zanaseraborini: this one's problem is that it's too pronouncable, and the "ini" sounds diminutive and silly, and not at all serious.
Sorry for bothering with this, but trust me BC: it's just a problem of different language.

Being an english speaker you obviously have to apply an english pronunciation to names (even by habit of course), english words aren't supposed to be pronounced as they're spelled, so this 'Zanaseraborini' gets this english pronunciation/accent and appears unpronunceable and weird to you. But 'Zanaseraborini' isn't english language... Its sound and spelling doesn't belongs to english language, so probably it just clashes with it. That's all. So maybe you only have to try in pronunce it as is spelled (as I do, being Italian - and a spaghetti eater (:P) - that's automatic for me.

I hear people in forums complaining about Daedric/Dwemer names almost every week.

However, I could agree with who says that the name isn't much 'Daedric'. Then propose another.

For the rest, as you know I completely agree on the other things you say. ;)

Daedric language and words however should and are akin to their Mesopotamian counterparts. I say just open a transliterated copy of Gilgamesh or the creation myth (theviking, help me out on the title: Elish...Enuma..?)and take word parts and combine them.

Maar Mora goes because its a direct welding of Maar Gan and Sadrith Mora.

If Gah Ouadaruhn goes, then this surely must.

Yes, now I can understand that Mar Mora comes from a mix between Maar Gan and Sadrith Mora (but you know that all these 'Mar' 'Sadrith' etc. are very common and diffuse in Morrowind - so Maar Mora couldn't be so wrong after all; unless it doesn't means anything of course).

But of course I keep on voting for Gah Oudaruhn to be kept; if as you say, Maar Mora is just a mere names remix, I don't feel Gah Ouadaruhn as a mix between Gah Sadrith+Tel Ouada+Ranyon Ruhn to be honest... It just means what that town is, a river-home.
And we are at the third public release, you know what I mean. ;)

Maar Mora goes. It's been crossed out since before this thread was started.

You can't be serious about Zanseraborat. Even though it is fun and all, naming it after borat makes a joke of the whole daedric ruin. We can't do that with one of our greatest and most famous daedric ruins. To suit BC, why just not keep the name at Zanaseraborin without the extra i or Zanaseraborinu.

Yeah, I knew that 'Zanaseraborat' was a joke; as Haplo I like Zanaseraborinu, good choice.
About Gah Ouadaruhn: I only think that names changes on Map 1 should had to be decided before a public release (it's the third actually); that's just my opinion though...

Ok, decided so far we have:
Maar Mora -> anything else

Darconis -> Helnim

Rouaf Duhr -> something else (I suggest Othrensis)

Gah ruhn -> something else

Reich Parkeep -> Parkeep?

Riverbridge -> Alma Thirr

Zanaseraborini -> Zanaseraborinu

Blacklight -> Baan Malur

Karthor Dale -> Kartuhr

Bodrum? (I vote for spelling change)
Enamor Dayn?
Fort Ghormoth?

Correct me if I made any mistakes here :)

These two I quite like.

And am I alone in thinking Kartuhr is too like Khartoum? If so, it's a perfectly decent name.

Looking at my previous list, I'd say these should also be 'definites' for name-change, if that's what your list is (these being 'Maar Mora' styles):

Ouadagahr

Shady Circle

Azlrag camp

Stanegau village

Fist of the South

Heimlyn Keep

Chinzinch pass

Remember that the Imperials speak our language, we should be able to understand all the names they give to their forts. What does "Ghor" mean?

Blademoth? Shademoth? Stonemoth?

Might you mean Umbermoth Legion Fort? That's the only cell whose name is labeled with a fort. What cell was this rogue fort in, do you know? There's an old island outpost in cell (15,-23), but it hardly qualifies as a fort.

Also if you have no prior knowledge that it should be pronounced Kohgohtehl. Which, incidentally, is what 99% of our donwloading public will have (no prior knowledge). ;)

I think just an "'" or a "-" or even a " " would just make it read less suckily to those who don't know the o doesn't run into the t.

But reading my posts, I do appear to be getting really anal about pronunciation, which is probably a habit I should kick. Meh.
