Ank's Showcase - Chuzei Architectural Set

Post by Anktuman »

EDIT:
-----------------------------
Seems I'll be doing tons of RL stuff for a while, which puts a HUGE chink in my plans here. So, sadly, I hafta bail on the Goldmoor bridge project for a while. Probably should have someone else do it.

I find the Tamriel Rebuilt project to be a wonderful idea, and I wish the best to all of you here, you've all been great to me (for the unbelievably short while I was here), but alas I hafta deal with Real Life.
-----------------------------

NOTE:
-----------------------------
I'll probably make a link to the Chuzei Architectural Set sometime next week so the rest of you can warp it into whatever you want or need.

Actually I was planning to do the Dres set by myself someday. But if you can give us something interesting and well made, give a try to it! Currently we have a need of Architecture for goldmoor. Try looking here: http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/old_forum/viewtopic.php?p=244727

Or try this bridge:

http://img440.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sidebo8.jpg

I also have some meshes that need to be finished up, if you are willing to touch somebody's work. That is a lighthouse and a fountain. Just ask me for them.
PoHa: how can we best this trio of trouble? who will save us from this menace of sub-par models? what will we do?
PoHa: I know! we'll shoot an Aro at them
Aro: you have only one Aro missile!
PoHa: yes, but its heat seeking and quite possibly indestructible

Well, I'm better with structures than small things, so I'll attempt that bridge. Maybe stick a guardhouse halfway across it. ;)

Just make the bridge first. We can talk about guardhouses on them later :)

When making the bridge be sure to check out the Goldmoor wall set, the bridge was made concidering those walls. Thats why the concepts itself is rather, how should I say this...lacking and poor. Look into this thread http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/old_forum/viewtopic.php?t=19055

Okidoke, I have screen shots of the bridge for Goldmoor!

Although it's not complete yet, I figured you all might want to see where I am so far.

The textures will of course change, and I still have to fix some ambiance, etc, problems as well, but that'll happen after I have the mesh design perfected.

I still have trimming to add to the arches, the small crenelations (battlements/merlons/little stumpy things) along the top of the bridge-wall, etc, as well.

There is only one piece designed so far, but once this piece is perfected I'll add other pieces to the set.

(BTW, Elfane? Your link to the Goldmoor wall stuff is a dead end, couldja repost it?)

Also, if anyone can send me (or show me where to get) the presently used Goldmoor textures, it would aid me greatly in designing this bridge and the accompanying gateway/doorway.

Anyhoo, here we go:

A view of the arched underside:
(Kind of dark, but the arch is complete all the way to the top, forming a cross-shaped top for each section.)

Nice progress, and the reason you cant see the link is that you dont have modder status.

not that difficult to convert really. i think they look great :) my only problem is that the supports dont seem structurally sound, the columns should be solid underneath the bridge (not 2 separate, narrow columns)

Could you upload your mesh? The mesh looks solid on the screens, but I need to have a closer look to let you know if there is something wrong about it, or something that could be done better... As LN said, converting isn't a problem.

Aye, I'm aware the goldmoor stuff is being done for Oblivion, but, lacking Oblivion, I'll be designing the bridge for Morrowind, and let you experts do the conversion.

And yes, the meshes are solid, but there are a few bugs I'm still working out (such as how parts are darker than others, etc), and I'll of course not be using Imperial textures for the end product (provided someone sends me Goldmoor textures or I get the guts to make new ones based on what I see in that post above.)

I'll upload the mesh in a few days, once I get it a bit more solidified.

Also, I've spent about a decade studying classical, medieval and renaissance-era architecture, particularly cathedrals during the renaissance-era and classical Greek and Roman architecture. Those columns actually will support the weight of the bridge soundly. You can't see it that well, but they do broaden along the outer skirtline as they get closer to the water, and are not uniformly flat, as it appears in those snapshots.

If you study columns in Greek and Roman architecture, and some French and Italian cathedrals, you will see that they actually bulge a bit at the middle instead of getting smaller uniformly from bottom to top. This was done for two primary reasons. One, they are more structurally sound and capable of bearing a heavier load, and two, from the ground, looking up, the columns give an appearance of being more impressive and imposing than they truly are.

However, in order to conform to the styles shown in that post above, I'll modify the mesh a bit to reflect it, but try to maintain a realistic architectural stability.

Again, once I get the mesh into it's "happy place", I'll upload it for your various dissections. Expect that by about Monday. ;)

(Also, by comparison, I believe a lot of the Imperial, Redoran and Hlaalu architecture from Morrowind's original form is structurally unsound, and in reality would cave in if a herd of guar ran by. Same for the Telvanni, but then, they have magic to help them, so I can't argue their styles...)

Wow. Your knowledge is a big plus. You know what you are talking about... Sorry for such a short reply, but all I can say this time is "Dude, you're right!"

One note though. Would it be possible to make the bridge more wide? Since this is a big bridge that was build over the big Goldmoor river (they will be mostly placed just next to the ocean and they will be leading straight into the city.), I imagined it to have sidewalks and a road in the middle.

Can do. I'm actually re-starting from scratch, based on new Goldmoor info I'm finding both here and elsewhere. Again, I'm designing this all for Morrowind, and thus my screen shots and files will be for such, but it can be easily converted for use in Oblivion.
