Fixing some old Morrowind mess

Post by aro101 »

That won't be propably the only thing that needs fixing. But here's a new version of tr_ex_ind_building04 and tr_ex_ind_building03. They had messed up collisions.

PoHa: how can we best this trio of trouble? who will save us from this menace of sub-par models? what will we do?
PoHa: I know! we'll shoot an Aro at them
Aro: you have only one Aro missile!
PoHa: yes, but its heat seeking and quite possibly indestructible

Could you do better versions of the cliff meshes? At the moment they're very low poly and are mapped in such a way that they look very low-res.
You're a legend, aro :)

Cliff? Gimme the filename and we'll see what can we do, because a search for "cliff" in the tr/x folder gave me 90 results :P

There's about 5 different cliff meshes for the big cliff set. Each of these has a bunch of differently textured versions. (Assigned rock textures from a different region) The small cliff set looks fine, but there's no systematic difference between the naming of the big & the small ones.
I could make up a list if you like, but it'll take a while.

A list isn't necessary. I propably can judge by myself what is shit, and what's not. I'm willing to clean some Morrowind mess after I'm done with necrom and before I get on Dres. Oh, and I still have a few reqeusts from Sload.

I've seen that one of Beth's own mess was used and have, in the past, tried to fix it. But since I did not understand anything about making UV maps in Blender, I dropped it.

But now, I've managed to fix its texture AND UV map! Yay!

This model should be used to replace the EX_MH_bazaar_tent objects that are used throughout Almalexia. Now these tents have a tent texture (instead of a stone texture) and a working UV map, and even some vertex shading.

It probably could be done better, but I'm still kinda proud.

Guess what gets its size divided by 10 once it gets rid of its countless nodes, animation keys, and redundant vertices? A static, that's right!

This 47 kb file was 440+ kb before. Why the fuck did it have animation keys? It's not animated. There were also countless tiny invisible boxes embedded inside the main meshes, when you looked at it in wireframe view it looked like it was afflicted with metalosis maligna. Oh yeah, and there were so many nodes that if you looked at it in NifSkope you simply couldn't see the mesh at all.

Working on i2-66 made me realize that there were a few problems with TR indoril meshes, incorrect vertex shading and subtle seam errors. Here's a fix for them. :)

And while I'm at it... Anybody interested in a casper-free bloatspore?

Gez is the bloatspore meant to replace or add on to?

The best solution would probably just change the original content regarding the bloatspore. There are several bloatspore caverns in TR Maps so that either means replacing all of them or just editing a single item which technically shouldn't be considered original content because it was never used.

What? None of the already placed bloatspores should have any errors such as the caspering base being visible. As an add-on, Gez' upload would just be used in future locales on Maps 4-6, or maybe in detailing existing areas on Maps 2 and 3. However as a replacement, they would (obviously) replace all instances on every map.

Best thing to do is to use them as a replacement and call it a day. It's the same mesh with the same shape, just with a bit more faces to plug the holes. If the caspers ain't visible, nobody will notice the difference; and if they are then it's better this way.

I hate the Indoril tileset. There are still seam errors. The vertices of the columns aren't on the same places depending on whether it's a in_MH_blah piece or a in_MH_int_blah piece. I'm gonna fix those two wall pieces for real soon.

Okay, they look fine in-game now.

I can go back to finishing the fucking int instead of obsessing over seams.
