From Major Realms of Iliac bay on TIL:

Sentinel is a coastal province south of the Bay. It is the Capital of Hammerfell. Sentinel sits on the edge of the Iliac Bay. It is most definitely a merchant power, for it sits on a rocky run of hills, and the barren plainsbehind it offer no good soil before they run into the desert sands of the Alik'r. It borders Ayasofya in the east, Antiphyllos and Myrkwasa in the west. Its principal street is a vast marketplace stretching from the harbor all the way to the badlands gate. Sentinel Palace is the oldest and largest Redguard architectural monument, quickly built during the Ra Gada firestorm to ward against the Bretons and added to ever thereafter.

I don't know if the Sentinel badlands fit on the TR map, but I certainly didn't make them up.

The dried grass and the hills remind me of Madrid, where the grass also is also only green for about one month.

Basically due to the amound of space we have, it will probably just end up that the hills are scrubby badlands with about 500m of grasses before it runs into deserts.

Anyway, Hammerfell wouldn't be Hammerfell without some badlands! And as to my last comment, I forgot to add: '(jk :D )'. Sorry 'bout that. :D

A little update on what i've been working on. Grass! Two types so far. A short dry off-white colored grass, and a dried out, wide bladed, brown grass. I'm still experimenting though. Any suggestions for types of grass?

Couls you make the blades thinner. It looks more like a plant, or something. Or if you make it thinner, will it make it look dodgy when from a distance? Otherwise, it's a large thumbs up. I did have Corel Draw 8, I might reinstall it, is it useful?

I second what Pound said. They still look a bit lush. What if you made this texture a little bit more yellow/grey/brownish and a bit more desaturated?

morden could you tell a little bit about how you went about creating that grass. is it just a retexture or are they new models? If they are new models I would like to know how you went about creating them. I am making a game and grass will be a huge part of the landscape.

Thats currently what i'm on in terms of grass and trees. Don't mind the yellow ground texture and that white grass.. its old stuff. My next task is making that look better.. and more color coordinated.

Looking great Morden! It would be nice to see it in a contextual terrain, like the deserts of HF. Just one comment that might help: is there a way to dither the transperency on the edges of the grass (too rough? don't know).

Very nice or dried out areas, but the texture seems a bit less detailed than Oblivion's.

I'll upload some photos these days to give you a couple of new (I hope) ideas.

Which texture? There are about 5 custom textures in that photo. I also stated that i'll be making the white grass and the yellow ground texture much better in the future.

So i'm aware that its less detailed then bethesda's :P .. and i'm still working on it.. unfortunately Bethesda's texture artist was a bloody genius. These textures are very difficult to make, and actually involve some help from Eyeball as well. These are all far from final.

He might be THE texture genius, but that's not a reason to underestimate your abilities, and this is not an excuse to ask even more from you.

Anyway, if it's far from final, then it's pretty damn good at this early stage. :)

I'm trying to learn what Bethesda did to make those grass textures... and eyeball and I are getting closer all the time. ;) Just look at the difference between that white grass there and the long green stuff :)

But the guy they hired was light years ahead of me. :P It's nice in a way... sort of like when i started modding for morrowind and had to learn all the tricks of texturing. Now with this grass its like a whole new ball game.

Really. You guys thinking "Hey, it's just grass, how hard can it be?" could easily go up to someone from NASA and say "Hey, it's just building a spaceship, how hard can it be?" It would appear as if each strand of grass was modelled, textured and lit seperately in 3d, and then individually tweaked afterward in Photoshop. That's insane. :/

We're getting there, though. As soon as I can get Fyr his bath and bedtime story.

Wow, that's not just insane, it's a pain in the ass. :( Good luck Morden, it seems you'll need it.

Four speedtrees... all in various beta stages. Right now they're way under poly compared with bethesda's.. and i'm still working on leaves... but enjoy!

Almost a year... time for an update. Nothing I've worked on in the last year has made it to my showcase... meh... here is something i've been developing on and off. It's based on Lutemoth's yoku idol concept from quite a while ago. It's meant to be placed on pillars/walls/arches/ruins or anything associated with the temple.

I plan on making a broken and ruined version. It will also be easy to change the face to represent various gods. My only regret is that I haven't modeled it as a posable character.

Yoku grave markers were also in the works.. based off of ancient Turkish designs. Unfortunately my model looked like a big penis and had to be abandoned.

The head reminds me of one of those Big Mouth Billy Bass things you see on barroom walls occasionally. I almost expect it to break out into "Don't Worry Be Happy". ;)

Actually ,it looks really great. With a bit more work and a proper texture, I think it would fit perfectly as a pillars/walls/arches/ruins wall decoration.

This has been sitting on my hard drive, unfinished, for quite a while.. I'm hoping to find the motivation sometime, but with summer here, I'm not sure. I should upload the files in any case.

I doubled the poly count (1532 total), rebuilt the texture from scratch, and altered the shape of the handle.

very shmexy, love your choice of textures :) you should definatly upload the files, it would be a shame to loose such a wonderfull model.

speaking of textures, are you planing on retexing the stirk rapier (since you said the tex was WIP) or should we merge it the way it is?
