Tallven's Concept Art

Post by Tallven »

So. Hi everyone.

This place is interesting, though somewhat intimidating. I'm bad at finding stuff in forums, and must admit I'm kind of lost. I see your working on Hammerfell at the moment, so it would be a good idea to do some sketches there, but is there some more information on the place somewhere? I want to now all about it, I can't draw places I can't envision clearly. I've gathered it's some kind of oriental style so far. Shame on me, I don't even now who lives there. Redguards?

I'm shure there are corresponding forums for theese kind of questions, so please just link me there. I don't really like forums that much. ^^

I can upload some stuff I did before, not relating to the project but a display of my art.
And I want to draw, someone just give me something to do! :P

Are there wood sprites in Tamriel? Anyway, enjoy.

At the top of the concept art forums are 4ish posts labled [FCG]. Thats the best place to start. Also here's a link to Lutemoth's gallery. That might help with the style. :)

The Lore/Quest forums should have something but it might require searching. Lutemoth's work I'd say is best bet. Redguard style, from my interpretation is utilitarian with an artistic flair.

Thankee. I'll try the lore forum when I have some time to.

I do recommend to pin up at least a rudimentary description of the themes, though, as it would make it much easier to get familiar with a style. Especially for newcomers who do not know much about the other provinces. I've played Morrowind, so the basic Imperial and such are familiar, and Skyrim's fairly easy, but the rest... would make it easier to get startet, anyway. I'm rambling about, don't mind. ^^

For an idea of his influences, I'll just quote him explaining in an internal forum how he created the concept for Satakal.

1. Start off with a regular snake profile, right? I believe this is the venomous type, but that doesn't really matter.

2. mix in half of mayan influence. Right here is a reference from a lovely snake god.

3. this one is crappily doodled, but still illustrates a nepalese influence. Give thanks to Daka, the evil eater. The dancing, ornately positioned movement is what I try to use for all Yoku gods, really. Quite a persian thing, too.

4. Dash the whole thing in Paisely and a central african reference. The good thing about the Paisely style is you can further the detail and decoration down to the very teeth.. But I'm no good at that sort of thing.. it always ends with curls, circles and curved contours, after all :D
So yes. Influences include Mesoamerica, East Asia, South Asia, Arabia, Sub-Saharan Africa... just about everywhere non-Western really..

Thankee again, this is useful.

I just finished this lass:

A Khajiit Dancer. Not exactly Hammerfell-ish, though she shure is very oriental. Doesn't actually fit into Khajiit culture either, so she might be "importet" to Hammerfell. Must be a cross breed, by the way - normal feet, tiger stripes and where does all the hair come from? I'm pleased with her, but I hate hands and feet.

And ImageShack won't let me do Thumbnails. What's wrong with that site?

Lol

Anyway, you have excellent colours there. Are you planning to do anything Hammerfall related?

Heh, she doesn't have to be a cross breed to look like that. She was simply not born under the same moons as most khajiit appear to.

Thanks both of you *dances happily around* :)

Yeah, I actually thought I could make myself useful, and since work on Hammerfell seems to be needed most right now and all the non-Western stuff is so much fun... why not.
But I'm gonna have some sleep first. It's late in Europe, wherever you all come from.

I have to say you've got some talent. :)
I like the way you colored that sprite. Coloring is a skill I personally lack and can't be bothered to practice, but it's refreshing to see some colored art here.
I'm eager to see more concept art from you.
