Getting started, come check it out =]

Post by Gustav »

Just joined up, so haven't done much, but anyway heres a small taster of what I'm up to!
(Comment and CONSTRUCTIVE Criticism would be good, I'm bored of angry peeps)

(Well I hope I got the URL thing sorted, if not PM please! =])

Heres the result of my Bear thing, added a bit to much snow in the end though, I also realise that art for Hammerfell seems to be more wanted but I'm only starting off here so bare with me...
Just did this for a bit of fun playing around with the TR initials and I thought it looked quite effective so I uploaded it, hope you like.
This place I'm not sure where it is but to me it looks like a lighthouse on the southern part of Hammerfell.
I thought of the first thing that came to mind when I thought of Skyrim, and Viking/Nordic came to mind, so I sketched those ideas up and I hope to develop further into Skyrim, using this bunch of doodles as a base to work up from. Not brilliant (to say the least) but I will get into greater detail later.
This is a piece that shows a part of Skyrim, Falkreath, from a high point and is looking down at the town (which is covered in fog, because i wasn't feeling very imaginative that day, besides it looks goodish)...
And here is my concept for the bear, just starting of a piece (of fairly boring and useless) art, lol.

Oh and by the way, the darker appearing thumbnails have transparent backgrounds but appear with a white background on the actual host.

Thanx,
G

Nice! I like it. I'm not really one to review it, but I've done some CA. I like your TR symbol, it would be a good piece to use as a stamp or something :D

The best one would be the Nord armor and spears and daggers. We are looking for objects to make, like wall sections, cups, weapons, draperies, stuff like that. While the lighthouse/lookout is very well made, it could only be used for one place: the place described. A close up of the lookout its self would be much more useful, and even better, section by section, with different views. Modellers are looking for pieces to create - that's the purpose of concept art (CA). Your pieces are very good, and nice artwork - you have talent. Try to focus more on creatable pieces, though. Keep at it, and look at Hammerfell or wherever's style. One very Hammerfellian style thing is the Oroboros, the snake biting its tail. It reminds me of Mayan and Incan architecture.

Keep at it, and I hope you'll be promoted soon! Great work, again.
if you read my location and thought "woah what a perverted old man!", then you must be a perv yourself. because i never said anything about them being strippers... heheehheehheee

Looks pretty nice. I like the lighthouse. And the colors.

But you should know that concept art for Skyrim is pretty useless for TR at the moment. No one here is building Skyrim. For the coming years I suspect they'll be quite busy with Morrowind and Hammerfell.

Thanks for the replies and advice, with it i've worked on the Lighthouse making it more useful for modders. I chose the Lighthouse as it was in Hammerfell and did a few more angles of it. I've stopped with the Skyrim stuff until the day it might be needed. I'll also be doing stuff for Morrowind as Myzel suggested and objects as Theron did.

More importantly I need to get my scanner fixed (graphics tablets are good but I'm much better on old-fashioned paper ;) ) and my PC back (as I'm working on a Mac which doesn't support Morrowind) so that I can actually create pieces of CA that will be more much more useful for anyone who uses them.

This is my improvement of the Lighthouse with more detail.

Also, if anyone has anything special to request, i'd be glad to help just PM!

Thanks again for the advice, (and I hope to be getting more useful over time)

I love it! It's just amazing. It looks like real art. Again, we need individual pieces, but this is great. Maybe a lighthouse static? Anyway, it's great. Keep at it. I can't see, if you give individual furniture, why anyone wouldn't promote you.

Keep at it, mate (heh, I'm not australian)!

You definitely have some good material (using a gondola to get to the lighthouse me like). Just a little advice though; it's nice that you put all those pictures into one package, but it makes it harder to see the finer detail on a bunch of them (especially the lighthouse at night one). Could you please upload the individual pieces?

I'm looking forward to seeing more of your stuff.

Oh, I've just realised that my pieces are uploading to about 1/5th of their actual size and therefore arnt much use...

I will get onto changing the size when I have a spare moment, though I'm not sure how so I'll experiment!

Thanks for pointing that out!=]

Ok, so working on feedback I've extended the work I did on the Lighthouse (Look up for more detail) and this is what I've come up with! Enjoy and please help me get better by commenting =]

The Lighthouse at night (might need a bit more work, but I'm pleased with the moon, but was really just for fun =])

And the more useful Lighthouse Extended...

Hopefully now the images are a better size, I think I've sorted it now!

Cheers,
G

(Oh, by the way in "Lighthouse extended" the table is meant to be slanted and is not bad perspective! Just found out when showing my bro!)

the concepts look nice! the lighthouse pic is extremely dark though, it would be hard for a modeler to make it because everything is so hard to see.

as for requests, i suggest you take a look at the WSG threads pinned at top :) we could really use some middle class furniture for example.

also, since you have art skills and seem to be enthusiastic, i have Promoted you for the Conceptual Arts. welcome!

Ok, so heres some of the real stuff - hand drawn and scanned! Hope you like it, its really and random set of armor for Hammerfell. Not all of its great but hey, thats life! Maybe someone imaginative can find a name for it or give advice on how to improve it...

Awesome,
G

P.S. Sorry its not got a transparent background, it takes ages to do so I'll do it when I got a spare day, lol

Thanx, Lady Nerevar, that rocks! =] I'm not really that sure what it means to get Promoted here, in TR, but I guess its good - I must look into how this place runs!

Oh yeah, that second Lighthouse is way to dark to do anything from but its just abit of a play-around. The real (and much more useful thing is above).

I will look at the WSG and some middle class furniture too!

Thanx a lot,
G

Great stuff. I especially like your idea of a cobra lamp. If you expand on it and make it a little more Redguard-like, I think it could be awesome.

Thanks guys, this is awsome =]

I'll get working on the cobra light as Obagovo suggested!

Its good to know I'm on the right tracks now, thats down to brilliant peeps that work on this project.

Just one question; Should I keep posting my new stuff on this thread or start a new one? As this one is called: "Getting started, come check it out!"

Cheers again,
G

P.S. It might take a while for my new things to get here - I'm all out of paper =S

Wonderful. I love it.:] It would fit perfectly with the upper class.

As for your question, keep posting in this thread as it is better to have your work in one place. If the name bugs you, just ask an admin to change it.
