How can I help?

Post by TennysonXII »

In what way can I be of most service to the TR team? To be honest, I'm more interested in working on Morrowind than on Hammerfell, but will happily work on whatever you need.

My only limitations are that I can only use what I already have, or what's free (or, at the very least, inexpensive). I have both games and their expansion packs, and their respective construction kits. I'm still shaky on how to script or do textures or meshes, but I'm quick learner.

So just let me know what I can do for you.
By the way... Do you happen to know what the fine is here in Cyrodiil for necrophilia? Just asking.

It would be a good idea to post new questions in your existing showcase thread. Each member is allowed only one, and extras are always either merged or archived/deleted, so it would save the admins some work if you kept to the one thread.

All work of all types is always needed and welcome. Post a file in the area you'd like to try and it will get reviewed. This isn't a job; it's a volunteer project and as such you volunteer to do what it is you want to do.

Well, you can cover as many subjects as you want. Show us whatever you can do :P we accept any and all work and will try our best to make sure you improve at what you desire to improve on.

That being said, I am assuming you are interested in

*Modeling

*Interior/Exterior Modding

Looking forward to it! (Don't be afraid to post nomatter how good/bad it is. Keep in mind that you will probably do better than I did)

Forgot that I did this a while ago.

I'd love some help with the wolf.

This may or may not rely on the Five Keys of Azura Mod. Unfortunately, I don't have access to my CDs right now, so I can't check. I'm really sorry about that :(

Firts of all your mod is dirty. This is easiley sorted, you need a programe called TESAME this can be downloaded here http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/?p=modding_data/utils. Also here is a tutorial how to use it http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/?p=modding_data/tutorials&section=38054

Pelagiad, Regulus Terentius's House
This is a very nice looking interior, a good amount of clutter has been included. It should proberly be a bit smaller though. Look at vanilla buildings for an idea of thier size. The north marker is set up correctley. The house needs to be set so it is illegal to sleep there and you have used deffalt light settings, once again check vannila Interiors for you light settings.

You have used some DE items in your com interior, you should change these to Com ones, the desk and the rugs all need changing. However, Imperials do not use desk but tables and common rugs can onkly be found in TR data.

You have used a lot of unique items such as Eltonbrand, Chrysamere, Mehrunes' Razor. These should be removed as there is only meant to be one of these. Check a couple of the helmets as they are as well.

It looks like you did not use gridsnap, to turn this on go into file, preferances and tick the box next to use grid, this alligns the interior pices so you do not get the seam lines.

Floaters:
1. Bed is floating
2. The table next to the bed and the cup on it are floating
3. Upstaris wine rack is floating.
4. Some sacks upstairs are as well
5. A bench downstairs floats.
6. The downstairs bar floats.
These are really simple to fix, prees f while the item is selected so that is is contact with the ground.

Bleeders:
1.Alot of items bleed into the rugs.
2.Two books upstairs bleed though the back of the bookshelf
3. The normal sacks upstairs bleed into each other a bit too much
4. A planter downstairs bleeds too much into the ground.

To fix this rais them out of the ground and press f so they rest on top of it.

Other errors:
1. The taperstries seem to be either bleeding into the wall too far or not attached to the wall.
2. Wine bottles in the winerack seem to float or bleed.
3.Instead of using wood and metal cutlery, silverware might be more apropriate.

Sorry if this was a bit long winded, but that is what i found.

You are a godsend, my friend. Thanks a million. This mod was just a practice thing I did some time ago, so there are definitely elements that I would never incorporate into a mod that I would expect others to use-- such as the unique weapons and armor. I'll keep in mind the stuff about not mixing Dunmer and Imperial items/furniture (I just read that somewhere today, in fact), and I'll make sure to properly set the tapestries.

I'm thinking about a dungeon quest for Morrowind, just a simple "enter dungeon, kill baddie, get the cool looking sword." Simple, but something to occupy my interest.

Hey, I'm working on a tavern for morrowind, but I need a checklist/to-do list to make sure everything gets covered. What else do I need?

1. Exterior (building and location)
2. Interior (building and clutter, drinks, furniture)
3. NPCs, including barkeep, and related scripting (this scares me a bit, my only scripting experience is one extremely simple quest at this point)
4. Scripting for beds (actually, I figure this goes with the barkeep, but I don't know yet)
5. Review

Give me any tips or advice you have, please. Thanks a bunch.

Depends what you want to be promoted for. I would focus on one thing at a time. Add the inn somewhere in the exterior, then create an interior without any quests or NPCs or anything of that nature. Just detail the interior completely. That will get you promoted for interiors. Then you can add NPC and dialogue to learn how to do that to an already finished interior. After that you can add quests to be promoted for quests. One thing at a time.

Awesome, thanks Haplo. That's actually more in-line with the way my brain functions anyway (ADHD, attention span of a monkey in a toy store), so it definitely makes sense for me to do each step at a time.

Of course, that means I actually have to stick with it through all the individual steps... ;)

The whole script for a tavern is in one script, usually Pub_Whatever_The_Name_Is, which is applied to the NPC that offers the bed (namely the Publican). You have to make a global that is used in the script. Now, I'm not a scripter, so for the tavern in my showcase I [manually] copied a vanilla Pub script and made the proper global, but then there was some error in the part where you leave the tavern and then you come back and the door is locked, so my advice goes along with what Haplo said -- just don't worry about NPC's and scripts for now. I just thought you might want to know.

Thanks, that may make my life a little easier, but I'll deal with scripting later.

Hi Tennyson, I see that you are a playtester as well. So if you want to learn quests, this is one of the quickest ways to get some experience on how it's made. When you are ready to do so, we could use your playtesting help. And I hope that an admin gives you the TR Tester tag, so you have access to the quests that you can playtest.

If you tell me what to do, I'll be more than happy to do it. I've just been kind of going around map 1, looking for stuff that needs fixing. I did some poking around on Stirk, but there was a lot of stuff that needed to be fixed, and I wasn't sure how much of it had been reported (I mean, a lot of the stuff was pretty obvious, but I couldn't find where anybody had mentioned it).

My experience playtesting is rather limited. It was like,
"Hey, I want something to do."
"Sure kid, we'll make you a playtester. Here ya go."
"Sweet! Uh... now what do I do?"

So as long as somebody can say, "We need you to go here and look for these kinds of problems. You do it like this, then report it like this," I can do that.

Do you have access to the quest forums? We could usually do with some testers there.

As a playtester, you look out for the following problems:

Does the quest work? (very important, if it crashes while doing the quest then of course it needs to be fixed)
Are there ways to cheat the quest?
Are there language errors?
Are there logical errors?
Is the reward high enough or too uber?
etc., these are a good start.

Since you were added to the usergroup, that means I'm sure you can playtest well. We have some work for oblivion too, map9, http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/old_forum/viewtopic.php?t=17981 . But I guess you need to have the TR_tester tag to be able to do this. I'm gonna pm an admin to make that happen.

Ok. I can (kind of) begin testing for anything Morrowind-related. My machine handles the game rather poorly (it's a crappy laptop), but I can do it.

Oblivion, however, will have to wait for a bit. I'm in a straight-leg brace at the moment, so sitting at my desktop is impossible. However, I should be on it in less than three weeks.

Cool, just head over here: http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/old_forum/viewforum.php?f=185 and then you can pick out a quest claim and playtest it. You need a recent copy of map1 and a recent copy of TR_data to playtest the claims. 1-57 doesnt need a playtest as it is currently worked on.
