Calling All Australians!

Post by Jedak »

After the bushfires of the last week and a bit, It seems some of our Australian members have dissapeared. This is mainly the Victorian members I am speaking of.

After smelling the ash all day again, I started wondering how the others are fairing. I am fairly worried about some members who live out in the country.

Sphynxette, who lives in Warbunton - an area the fires passed very close to - could have been affected. And also RelinQ, who did not say where they lived apart from the fact that they live 45 k's from the city. And there are places now that where 45 k's from the city which don't exist no more :|

There where also the fires in NSW, though not as severe, could have affected some members.

I sincerely hope no one here lived in the Marysville area :(

I live in the Macedon Ranges which, while an extremely high risk area, fortunately has not been affected.

Me and my family in particular, as we live out in a local forest. We've always been very fire conscious and are usually ready to take off at a moment's notice should a threat present itself.

Bushfires are a threat every year and they do injure, kill and destitute people every year. It's sad that it's taken such a catastrophe to raise awareness.

It is Victoria's worst disaster ever this one. AND it happened on Victoria's hottest day ever. I think its a real warning of things to come - if this is the work of global warming.

Its good your alive though!

A good friend of mine grew up in Watsonia. His friends and relations are scattered around Victoria, but I think they all made it. It's strange to think that fires are still starting, even if they aren't as disastrous.

Wow, um hey there.

Thanks for being concerned Jedak, I live in the outer eastern suburbs (pretty much directly east and maybe a tad south), and there were fires up in Mount Dandenong that were only about 6 - 7km away. But besides alot of smoke I was actaully fine.

Now this it where it gets wierd:

I said to a friend after the Major fires had happend, (to lighten the mood) "geez we have fires here, floods and cylcones up north, all we need is an earthquake and a meteor strike"

And yet, in the past 2 weeks, we've had 2 earthquakes.

@__@... little odd.

That is rather fritening, especially considering all the popular 2012 claims.

Yeah It is actaully,

I'm impressed though, not a great deal of people know about that. That particular date does however scare me a little.

I live all of a couple of blocks away from where the fire hit bendigo... it was raining ash and the only way i could go outside comfortably was to wrap a wet towl around my head (i was down wind by 1 or 2 kms at most). I live walking distance from the middle of town, yet there were home destroyed that were closer to me than the CBD.

I very much consider myself lucky, and my heart goes out to those who lost thier homes, or worse still, family members.
