Nightwishnut's Showcase (Music)

Post by Nightwishnut222 »

I'm hoping to get involved in TR's music and sounds. Here are my two showcases. They are songs written in MIDI format.

Hey Nightwishnut, welcome,
I'm not a music mod (yet) but I like your Phrygian experiment. It's got an interesting sound. I think it would be cool to hear if it was done with a less midi-sounding program.
Good luck!

I do need to know which programs I can use for that. I can't afford much, so I was wondering if there were any quality freeware ones.

look for "anvil Studio" its simple, and its freeware. (if you want for just midi)

That's what I used to make this. Is there ways to make it sound less Midi though?

Yeah, I think that's one of the problems facing TR music, the cost of software. I don't know of any freeware that's higher quality than your Anvil Studio. There was a thread from almost a year ago talking about different software, unfortunately they're all in the hundreds of dollars.

There's a program called Acoustica Mixcraft. It's not free, and it doesn't write your music out in manuscript for you, but I think it's well worth the 65$. In the words of Nex it's "powerful az fvck". IMHO it has some good MIDI sounds on it and can do a lot with recordings.

Actually, I realize this may be presumptuous... but I have FL Studio, and while I don't consider myself competent enough with music to actually WRITE songs, if someone wanted me to run theirs through a mixer or file converter, I could do so.

Cool!

Yeah I'm staying at a friend's right now and my computer with FL doesn't have internet access yet, so it may be about a week before I get a chance to edit it.

Thats always been the problem with music writing programs = you either get bottom of the range, which is ether free or cheap, or you get top of the range professional stuff which is mostly $500 up, often going in the thousands. Its a hefty price to pay if you want a really good music input program which plays back quality non-midi sounds.

Like the tunes, we'll have to work on the quality. But you have potential.

As for freeware software you're not gonna get much, what I'd suggest is making your normal midi files and then pass them on to myself or one of the other many members who have some more professional software already and have them convert it for you.

I look forward to seeing your FL studio work, I'll keep checkin back!

I took Don Bernardo's advice and download the program Mixcraft, which seems to be working out pretty well. Here are my samples again (there's a third one now). Hopefully, this will sound better.

[Edit] Here. I converted them. Sorry about that. They are now in MP3 Format.

These are mx4 files. Can you convert them to mp3 so that we can listen to them without Mixcraft?

I edited the post. The zips I've provided now carry the MP3 format instead.

Hmmm... they still didn't work for me. My player is saying that the file could not be found. Weirdness...

You did unzip them... right? They work fine for me with Winamp.

They're pretty nice songs by the way. :) I'm not sure about how/if they'd fit into Hammerfell, but I'm not really sure what kind of music Gesshoku and the rest of the department will be looking for.

Hiya

Phrygian experiment: Nice idea. Like your use of colour. Pontenially a good idea for an Ahik'r theme of any sort. Would need a lot of work to make it fit though.

March from the Cadenza: Pontential to be a townpiece. Again, would need a lot of work to fit in with the other music.

Mer Kings Ballad: Good music, but I can't see this working in Hammerfell.

If you want my reccomendation for music promotion, tradition has it that you write one proper piece for TR that could be used as a track. This means an orchestral work of at least 2-3 minutes that could work as an in-game hammerfell piece.

Okay, took the advice and wrote this. Its a 4-minute piece called Hagathe (In refference to the city in Hammerfell). Now, I'm not sure exactly how the music for Hammerfell is supposed to sound, since its a mix of Asian, Carribean, and Middle Eastern Cultures, so I tried to write this song as 'adventerous' sounding. When I mixed it, I couldn't decide which I preffered, the Folk or the Orchestral version, so here is both.

Just listened to the orchestral version. Very nice. You might want to make it lean a bit more towards either battle or explore music, because it's sitting in the middle at the moment (in my opinion) and replace that horrible clicking instrument (the one that sounds like hitting a drum stick against a drum rim). Also, if you were going to go full on battle music, some low booming toms would sound sweet.
