Clockwork City in TR?
I know that this was discussed before...but it was awhile back and it seemed ambiguous whether or not anything had been decided.
Basically, is the Clockwork City going to exist on any of the TR maps for Morrowind? I realize it's secret, but it would make sense for in to be physically reachable in some way, shape or form.
One of the things I've been most excited for regarding TR is a greater exploration of the society surrounding Almalexia and Sotha Sil. I understand that Sotha Sil lives in isolation...but wouldn't it be interesting (and a great way to insert new books and secrets) if you could visit his library or other workshops/cities in some way? Or expand the existing Clockwork city to make it more like an actual laboratory?
Please let me know what your plans are when you get a chance. Thanks
Jason

The city is deep underground with no accessible presence. (This means we will not be adding it)

One will be able to enter through the Gate of Symmachus or whatever it was called (That big door in the plaza).

The gate unlocks at the end of the Tribunal quest.
As to Sotha Sil's city, its location is actually unknown. While there has been a map that showed it in the Argon Jungle, it has also been implied that it was under Old Ebonheart, inside of a jar, and just a part of Sotha Sil's mind.

Being a student of history, that comment about Atlantis really irked me. To not go off topic, I think that comparing the Clockwork City with Atlantis is kinda weird. What are you basing that on? Is every place that has somehow gotten lost a version of Atlantis?

Assuming Atlantis even existed: 10000/11000 BCE was still during the Ice Age and humans were too focused on hunting mammoths and avoiding hyenas to build significant cities until around 8000 BCE when Jericho was built and we'd harnessed agriculture. But even then it only housed roughly a few dozen people. It's very likely Atlantis was only an example to justify Plato's political theories. How this resembles Sotha Sil, I don't know. I always saw it as a physical metaphor of Sotha Sil's clockwork ever changing mind. Did Beth ever confirm that it had a population?

Apparently this is suspected to have been written by a developer, but I don't know how much weight you should place on that. Two extracts:Arthmodeus wrote:Did Beth ever confirm that it had a population?
Sotha Sil wrote:You ask where my Clockwork City is? Some say in the swamps of Black Marsh. Others claim it is deep in the ground beneath Ebonheart. I have even heard it told that my city is contained within a jar on the Lady Almalexia's mantle. These are all true, and false. My city is where I live, and I live in my city. Its location is unimportant, as I am its only citizen.
Divayth Fyr wrote:That was not the entire City. No indeed. It was Master Sil's main hall within his hidden city of Clockwork madness. Just as, outside of the pearly gates in Mournhold, exists a crawling area of numerous homes, citizens, and vendors. Sotha Sil is quite expanse and houses many more inhabitants. I have seen them in person, and my, what a sight! In the case of the Nerevarine, I hear tale that when he was teleported in by Almalexia, the machina lift door behind him was caved in. For whatever reason (did Almalexia do it or did Sotha Sil?), this barred him from venturing further. Where the Nerevarine actually was, is Sotha Sil's workshop/lair.
Think about it though.... if this were a city, who could possibly call this place home? More intelligent fabricant type inventions? I dare not tell, although I have seen it with mine own eyes. Perhaps one day, the location will be openly known, and visitors can venture forth into the Clockwork City entire.

So there's obviously more city with unknown inhabitants but it is all Sotha Sil's creation and as a result Sotha Sil considers himself its only inhabitant. At least, that's how I see it. Yeah, now that I think about it, there isn't much of a reason to throw in a subpar, fanbuilt city. It certainly wouldn't do it the justice it deserves.
As I like the idea of a Clockwork City, seeing it discussed in a TR thread (again) kills me. However, I rest easy realizing that the Morrowind community, as a whole, can't let the Clockwork City go on not existing forever. You might have to wait 20 years before someone decides to make it, but be happy that this community is the way it is: Viciously moddalicious with a penchant for god-like behavior.

Sotha Sil is the most interesting and coolest of the Tribunal. Bethesda really made a mistake in killing him off before we could even meet him!Sotha Sil wrote:

Anyway, the creation of the rest of the Clockwork city, if it is done, should, like greendogo said, be left to other modders. TR simply has more important areas to work on at the time.

Part of the allure of Morrowind is the esoteric nature of the world you interact with. As such it is proper that Sotha Sil's Clockwork City remain hidden.
"Imagination and memory are but one thing which for diverse considerations have diverse names."
"How dare you question the colonnade!" - one of the Glorious Leaders
"Nemon + IKEA = creationism" - some guy

Except that will change in the future, and, if I didn't know better than trying to predict something I have no proof about, I'd guarantee it.Tyrion wrote:As such it is proper that Sotha Sil's Clockwork City remain hidden.
