Cammona Tong

Post by milne »

Will there be a Cammona Tong presence on the mainland or is it just a Vvardenfel thing?

If there is, what sort of evil dealings would they be up to and who would control them since Dren is quarantined away on Vvardenfel?

I would guess that there would be members scattered about elsewhere in Morrowind, but it probably would not be a very large presence, since they are HQ'ed in Vvardenfell. They would probably be there under the following reasons.

1) Trying to smuggle ash statues into other areas of Morrowind (Dren works for the sixth house)
2) Dealing, producing or brewing moon sugar or skooma
3) Present in a Hlaalu settlement in an "advisory" capacity

In general, though the Camonna Tong has been powerful, it has not been really large. Just large enough to influence House Hlaalu and put the thieves guild in its place.

Well its certainly big enough to be DIRECTLY invloved in smuggling skooma into Cyrodill (there are actualy some bandits in the far N/E of Cyrodill who are tagged as members of the Cramona Tong). I dont doubt that there are others around who have played Oblivion and can back me up on this.

The point being that if they are on the distant side of the Cyrodill border i think it safe to asume they are 'around' on the Morrowind mainland, even if they are somewhat less concentrated than they are on Vvardenfell.

I would agree.

Regarding what you said about Oblivion, it's actually pretty amusing. If you're patient, you can follow the Tong Thugs off to wear they drop off the skooma, wait until the next person (an orc, iirc) picks it up, and track the flow of drugs all across Cyrodil. Kinda fun :)

It's almost funny how they trade with Cyrodiil and all, them being xenophobic racists and all :P

But to stay on topic, how powerful would they be? As in, would they just hang around in shady clubs in Hlaalu territory or would they have warehouses and control trading or maybe even piracy? There could be some interesting side quests on this...

The Commona Tong should have power but they should always be just below the surface. If they run warehouses they should be doing it under the disguise of something else for example.

Here's what I can imagine the mainland Camonna Tong consisting of:

1) Taking over abandoned caves, like in Vvardenfell. However, I'd imagine this would be to a lesser extent than in Vvardenfell. Presumably, these caves would be sending/receiving points for smuggled goods
2) Some kind of district leader. This would ideally be some sort of wealthy noble or business man, who's illicit transactions are hidden over cover of a seemingly innocent business (netch breeding, farming, mining, etc). This district leader would have contacts within the upper echelons of the local society through bribery and threats.
3) Enforcers and toughs who report to the district leader. These would either leave with said leader or in local corner clubs.

These would be split up among the ranks for the Camonna Tong faction...although there probably couldn't be more than one "Kingpin" (Orvas Dren).

Their activities would include:
1) Smuggling skooma, moon sugar, ebony and other illegal goods into said province
2) Selling the above goods to support larger schemes
3) Bribing house officials and nobles who regularly laison with imperial sympathizers and/or imperial leaders
4) Capturing lone Kajiit and Argonians and seling them into slavery
5) Protection Rackets amongst corner clubs, pawnbrokers and traders
6) Murdering imperial officials and sympathizers

They would also have "influence" in House Hlaalu and most likely a strong (but secret) alliance with House Dres.
