Resource search for Hammerfell (Suggest Here)
Hi. Inspired by the Rihad claim and the lack of Hammerfell progress during last month I became inspired enough to start this thread.
The deal is that to create a unique region, tons of meshes are needed. We need to have new sets of almost everything... furniture, architecture, armor, trees, creatures. And now it is the time to check out what is out there. Outside TR. And because I don't really visit tesnexus or planetelderscrolls, or whatever is popular nowadays, I'm asking you, dear TR Modders for help.
What do you think could look good in Hammerfell? What is good enough on quality and should be a part of TR? Maybe someone has already something that we need and I don't know about it?
Here's how your should look like:
Name of the resource/Mod - Link
A. Which part of this should be addedd? Where should it be added(A region, whole Hammerfell)?
B. What's the quality of it (does it look nice? - alternative question for modelling noobs)
C. How important is it to add such a thing? (Give a note + comment)
1 - Hammerfell won't be hammerfell without it
2 - It really should be addedd
3 - IMHO such a thing would be a nice addition to Hammerfell
4 - This sucks, dunno why I suggested this.
D. Does the readme say anything about using this about the resource? If yes, what? (It is not necessary to answer this question, but do it please if you have the mod on your HDD)
I would prefer to see this clean If a discussion will be started, I'm gonna propably split this thread into two. Suggestions / Discussion.

PoHa: how can we best this trio of trouble? who will save us from this menace of sub-par models? what will we do?
PoHa: I know! we'll shoot an Aro at them
Aro: you have only one Aro missile!
PoHa: yes, but its heat seeking and quite possibly indestructible

Just to get the ball, hopefully, rolling:
Hel Borne's Hammerfell Long Axe: Oblivion - Link
A. It's just a weapon. It could go on a leveled list of Crown weapons, maybe.
B. It does look nice.
C. 4 - Not sure it really fits with our own visual themes for Hammerfell.
D. The author wants to be asked permission before any reuse.
RealSwords - Redguard - Link
A. They're a bunch of weapons and arrows. Could go on a generic leveled list of Redguard weapons.
B. They are pretty.
C. 4 - As above, I'm not sure they fit with our Redguards.
D. The author considers them to be in the public domain.
About LCE below: not sure about werecrocs in Na-Totambu, but the (non-Dwemer) giant spiders would fit right in.

Mr.Siika's Better Ports - Link
A. Works for the whole of Hammerfell, particularly south and north (due to breton/imperial influence)
B. I like it, found no errors in a quick look. one possible error with the anchor mesh, but that may just be on my end.
C. 2 - It really should be added. hammerfell needs new ships.
D. Its a modders resource, so its free to use if credit is given.

Phitt's rich dwemer tileset - Preview Link
A. Everywhere we have dwemer ruins
B. Ãœberawesome++
C. 1 - The rich set is especially useful because each clan was supposed to have his own architectural style, so the Rourken stuff probably shouldn't look like the Vvardenfell stuff.
D. It'll be free to re-use as soon as Phitt has released his mod; in the mean time we may be able to negociate a resource exchange but I doubt we have things that he'd need for his Sheogorad mod...

i hate the wall meshes (the ones gez linked) cause they are really flat and unrealistic. the rest gets my approval though, it would be really useful in all hammerfell regions. it would even fit in goldmoor.

The idea with the wall mesh is to break its flatness by embedding other rocks inside, here and there.Lady Nerevar wrote:i hate the wall meshes (the ones gez linked) cause they are really flat and unrealistic. the rest gets my approval though, it would be really useful in all hammerfell regions. it would even fit in goldmoor.
Has any progress been made concerning retrieving permission/deciding usage of these suggestions? I escpecially concur with the Mr_Siika's port suggestion... His crane and some small boats would enhance Rihad's port in my humble opinion.
Oh, and
Link - Desert Architecture Beta
A. At least some of the stuff could be used in Rihad
B. Some of it looks nice, the canopies and balcony.
C. Medium important, IMHO such a thing would be a nice addition to Hammerfell
D. From readme: "These resources are free for you to use/modify and distribute as you wish. All I ask for are credits in your mod. It's enough to mention me as "Original models and Texturing by Darkness Eternal" ...or something like that "

that architecture is actually out in a finished version under a different name (Dune 3 i think). ive suggested it many times before, i think its pretty much been decided that were not using it. both of mr. siika's resources are public domain, so we can use them as long as we give credit.

unless we are really starved for architecture, we wont be using the buildings. they are, imho, much too typically arabian to be uniquely hammerfell, and i want our architecture to be ours alone (not shared between several other projects as this one is). however, smaller pieces (walls, decorations) are very much welcome. the new versions look even better then the old, ill see if we can include some of those.

New Water meshes- http://www.oblivionsrealestate.com/ModdersofORE/Water/water.html
A. Every where there is water involved and even at empty barrels.
B. I think so. i mean it looks good from the first sight. TESNEXUS score is 9.67.
C. 2-3 It could be usefuls for our exteriors.
D. The readme doesn't say anything about using this in another mod.

Mr.Siika's Dwemer Subway - http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=18203
A. Anywhere with Dwemer.
B. high quality stuff.
C. 1, we need dwemer stuff.
D. nothing mentioned, will need to contact author.
meshes i'd like to use: DwemerSubwayTunnelPortalClosed.nif ( a door), DwemerSubwayTunnelPortal.nif (open gateway), DwemerSubwayTunnel01Long1.nif ( a giant cave with bridge tracks. would pwn ass in Fang Lair, but can be dissected and used elsewhere), DwemerSubwayStationSurface.nif (stairwell), DwemerSubwayHallRotorWheel01.nif and 02 (cogs), DwemerSubwayHallRotor.nif (arch with pipes and cogs), DwemerSubwayHall.nif and Floor (a large round room with 4 exits. this ones a maybe).
Hel Borne's Brazier - http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14960
A. retextured it could work as Yoku.
B. looks great, but needs new textures.
C. 3: not really necessary atm, and not sure it totally fits with yoku style. just throwing it out there.
D. free to use as long as credit is given.
Koniptions's flora resource - http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=18961
A. in later regions, the palms could come in handy already in coastal areas. the canoe and anchors could also be used immediately.
B. The palms look quite good, some of the flowers are also nice. ill take a look at this in detail later. possibly will need to retex some stuff.
C. 2 for palms, 3 for the rest.
D. Its a modders resource: free to use as long as we credit Koniption and some other people.
meshes i'd like to use: Palms, canoe (w/ retex), anchor, maybe some flowers (need to check them out).
McMuffin's Skooma pipe - http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13121
A. everywhere
B. some texture seaming, but OMG ITS SMOKABLE!
C. 3 - its neat but not necessary. did i mention you can smoke it?
D.free to redistribute as long as credit is given. the author would also like to be contacted if we "do something cool with it"

some of the textures could probably stay, they are uqite neutral. others would be replaced either by texes we already have or by new ones (easy enough). there are also some good spots for frescoes or other real unique hammerfelll stuff

i took a look at the meshes. they look awesome, though some parts could do with poly reduction (30 minutes of work on my part). there are also a few parts of the meshes which bleed through eachother but that is also a minor issues. the havok could be improved eventually but it will do for now.

if you want i can take care of this for you
EDIT:
BTW, the readme says:
"Underground castle located near Hermaeus Mora sanctuary.
Meshes are mostly from imperial undergrounds tileset but i added some new things.
To create this i took inspiration from Giotto's frescos, from Siena's duomo, St. Petronio's church in Bologna and some other italian architecture"
So, it seems mostly a retexture. I checked them in nifskope and looks so, unless you're interested in textures he made i think it's pointless to contact him.

I hope this thread is not to 'olld' for this post to have a point...
I found this on PES, unique re-tex for MC furniture in Anvil style:
AST Golden Oaks Villa http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=5128
A: MC interiors for furniture, UC for porcelain clutter
B: The porcelain cutlery set looks awsome, the furnature is nicely done too.
C: 2 for the porcelain (isnt there 'plans' for porcelain armour? I think it fits as a hammerfell cutlery equivilent of silverware.) 4 for the furnature (is just a re-tex, looks nice but is basicaly just Imperial MC)
D: check link for details, but basicaly just asking that credit be given.
I found this on PES, unique re-tex for MC furniture in Anvil style:
AST Golden Oaks Villa http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=5128
A: MC interiors for furniture, UC for porcelain clutter
B: The porcelain cutlery set looks awsome, the furnature is nicely done too.

namely, the docks
A. everywhere in hammerfell if retextured
B. i got to play with this set a year ago, before release, and it was very nice. it appears to be in full working order. most of it is very low poly, which is both a positive and a negative. it could be polyreduced further, but i really dont think thats necessary, since each mesh is like 20 polygons.
C. 2-3 the docks, which are my main worry, are 120% needed for hammerfell. however, the docks in this set are rather generic and have no real defining features. on one hand this is nice for frame rates and customization via texturing, but on the other it makes them a wee bit borring.
D. its free to use
the dock pieces are under Jurad/Foundations, and are very versatile. many are repeats.
several other meshes from this set can also be incorporated:
\Jurad\lowerDistrict\broadstair01 -wide staircase
*\Campanile01.nif - large unique tower
*\houseBridge01.nif & 01 - covered bridges
*\JuradDryDock01.nif - a drydock, goes along with the rest of the dock pieces
*\lowerBridge.nif - nice small bridge
*\stair01.nif - staricase designed to attach to dock and go down into water
Jurad\special\greatBridgeOfJurad.nif - sexyass giant bridge. not sure where this would go.

the tower is about the only piece that doesnt really fit, everything else is quite neutral. the tower is neat though, i was thinking it for somewhere up north (highrock) if we need something up there. really low priority. bridges and docks however would be great to have now, especially since hegathe is centered around a canal.

every bit of the design screams venice, not just the buildings.
Whatever happened to that dock set that was like almost done excpet for like 2 errors? you know, the one WE made.

2 errors? lol
-no uv mapping (bitch to do for all 30 pieces, relatively easy if it had been done from the beginning)
-no textures
-no collision
-doesnt snap to grid, and is improperly aligned. this is the hardest to fix, if its possible at all.
also, what part of this or this screams venice exactly?

The bridge -kinda- does... but without textures its far to vague to call. As for the other thing, well seing as i cant indentify exactly what it is, i cant really comment (unless my implication that it looks like nothing counts as coment one way or the other).
PS: Is there any plans/theories floating around as to the nature of Dwemer armour in Hammerfell? I have a mod that may be able to provide a stop-gap if nothing else (its an oblivionised version of the morrowind Dwemer armour).

the first piece is part of the dock set. i dont really see anything particularly un-hammerfellian in a rounded bridge.
as for the armor, post a link and we'll think about it when we get to it.

I think that set would look fine if it was retextured to fit the towns it would be used in.

Ok, after what seem like hours digging through 14 pages of armour mods on PES and i have this:
Ghogiels Armour (actualy a multi-auther pack): http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=3004
A: The dwemer stuff... well, dwemer ruins for one...
B: Very similar to Morrowinds Dwemer armour (the bonemold is probably the best of the bunch actualy - my opinion. The 'man-at-arms' stuff looks pretty lame by comparison), just re-done for Oblivion.
C: 3 I wish i could give it more... But I'm getting the impression that were going for something that looks rather different to the Morrowind equivilent.
D: The readme includes a list of creators who should be credited, but thats all.
I also happened across this old gem which i use myself, it provides re-coloured, symbol-less town guard type armour in a variety of colours.
Plain surcoats: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=1382
A: Town guard/light soldiers
B: Very well done (not that there was much to do, tho they did make an effort to make it somewhat unique).
C: 4 - only a placehold until proper unique armours are made, and only the standard light varient at that (its good that they expanded it to cover hvy armour fans, but it looks no different). Perhaps it could be retextured and combined with unique helmets/shields to make it a less obvious 'port' from cyrodiil (?).
D: Asks to be credited and notified of use (oddly there is the implication that notification does not mean a need for permission)
