Oblivion CS question

All of the vegetation (including trees) that I am using in my worldspace cannot be rotated. This has me stumped: last time I loaded the CS I had no problems, and all the other statics rotate just fine.

Trees shrubbery etc for TES:IV Oblivion are billboard-type 2-dimensional objects created by the 3rd party program SpeedTree (For some reason) that switch automatically to high-polycount 3-D objects when the players comes within a certain distance of them. Since they are 3-D objects, the billboard illusion will be presented the exact same, no matter which direction you view it from.

I understand billboards: and they probably used speedtree to cut costs.

But are you saying that every single tree in oblivion must rest at 0 degrees no matter what? That doesn't make any sense considering they all have unique 3d-forms. It seems like if I wanted to put two pine trees next to each other they would look repeated.

I think it's a random generation thing. Since they're 2D billboards they will rotate with your view camera so that you don't see the fact that they're 2D... It's weird.

so I just place them in the worldspace as-is and don't even worry about it? (I'm going to hate it if you say yes) I'm fucking retentive about the way vegetation sits ha it's going to take some getting used to.

It's irritating, because a lot of our (and vanilla) trees are kind of leaning in a certain direction, which means it cannot be placed on hills that are / but it can on hills that are \... meh.

yep. some trees have multiple seeds so they will turn out different each time, but many will look the same.

i really need to figure out speedtree...

I've seen videos of it used, and it really looks simple once you have your fundamentals set up like your textures and concepts. I have RealmCrafter and it comes with a tree maker program: but you start with a trunk and then it is all billboards from there. Really simple though.

I guess it makes my worldspace go faster since I don't have to be captain anal on the way the bushes are facing.

making them is easy enough, but getting them into oblivion is what confuses me. each tree has like 4 folders its stuff has to be put into, not to mention that oblivion doesnt support all of speedtree's functions...

anyone happen to have a tutorial? ive yet to find one.
