Landscape Info

Post by kolya99 »

hey, I'm trying to create a mod for my own personal amusement and I need a bit of help with the landscaping. Ive never been particularly good on this topic. though I understand the prinsicples of shading, terrain color, raising and lowering land etc. But what i really need is some adice or a link to a tutorial that can give some directions. I searched TRs tuts but none were on the Landscaping topic. Im trying to Create a Large Landmass roughly a third the size of Morrowind, I created a rough draft by spamming the Flatten verticles option in the ladnscape menu. problem is now I have a large ladnmass whos coasts are cliffs and is flat as hell. I need info on what the right size for a hill or a mountain would be. how to make rivers and lakes seem more realistic and how to raise the land in different places so in the game map it all doesnt look like one big blob of orange color.

Oh really? http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/?p=modding_data/tutorials&section=251365

Test your progress in-game to get a feel for how high things are, and whether or not you need to raise or lower the landscape at various locations.

You could always place a static you know the size of (like a house) for reference if you're not sure how big your terrain features are going to end up looking.

thanks for the advice. nice tut haplo. heres another problem. My rough draft of land I looked on the world map on my test cahr and the left side of it was cut off. so I flattened the left side with ocean and added more land to the right side. Now I go back and look on the World map and it just shows me what the ladnmass looked like before I edited the left side. I tried creating a new char and looking on his world map but still no luck. have any of you mates here at TR ever had this problem?

Actually Ive tried installing it before. but just for the hell of it i tried again a few mins ago. i did everything the readme said. doubleclciked the codepatch, clicked apply changes, and it gives me a msg saying

"Analyzing Morrowind.exe...
Backing up Morrowind.exe to Morrowind.Original.exe
There is no compatible patch for your version of Morrowind.exe. There may be more versions released in the future. If you should have a compatible version, please check you have not installed other patches such as Exe Optimizer, fpu2sse or no-CD patches. Check the readme for more details.
Patch failed to apply."

What now?

I don't have much experience with MW code patch, but the world map is a bit buggy for me. When I playtest only m3a6, the game shows the entire map 3.

Right. well after a few days at bethsoft forums It was obvious I wasnt going to get Much help from there. One person advised that I update Bloodmoon with the official patch. Already did the updates but that had no effect on the code patch. Is there any other way to enlarge the Map without installing it? I mean without all the added fixes and just the map extender.

FPS optimizer. it turns the map gray, but also moves it with your cursor so that the map is visible.

as i said, it also lets you view the map. it doesnt actually enlarge it, instead it moves it to center at the player location (whereas before it was centered at 0,0)
