GOOGLEPOX's Showcase

Post by GOOGLEPOX »

Here is a little house mod just to show some of my interior modding. Im not very experienced so please don't be rude, because I just created this in a few minutes. The house is located right about under the bridge to Castle Skingrad. Any suggestions and feedback would be appreciatd.

P.S. I had to rush with the lighting so the lighting isn't very good and is mixed.

ive not looked at it yet, but i do have a suggestion:
take your time

if you know that the lighting isnt very good go back and fix it. it takes more than a few minutes to create a good interior. speed doesnt get you any extra points, but attention to detail and a solid, errorless piece certainly does.

got quite a few duplicate ID errors on load.

-way to light. you dont need the invisible lightbulbs because 1) there are no windows 2) the radius is much to big for the house. also remove the chandelier, it is an expensive piece of hardware that a poor lower class person would not be able to afford. smaller radius lights (128, 256 at most) are best for lighting interiors like these.
-it doesnt look/feel like a house. currently it just has a full shelf and an empty table. where does the owner sleep? what does he eat? take a look at a bethesda interior: they have beds, cupboards, crates and all kinds of other stuff that would be found in a real house. on the plus side, the shelf is nicely detailed.
-the shelf bleeds into the molding
-the shirt and sandals float, as does the sickle (it needs to be rotated, as havok made it lie unrealistically).
-the house needs a door.

your biggest problem is emptiness. take your time and add clutter and furniture to make this interior really feel alive. also pay attention to havok'd clutter, havok often makes it float.

Actually, just don't ever press the Havok button. Seriously, just resist the urge for the Showcase. It can be useful when you want to randomize clutter in a messy interior, but you still have to 'F' everything back afterward. Since we pay more attention to detail in the Showcase (not much, we're by far the most nit-picky mod group on the face of the planet,) you're going to want to give us your A game.

Alright i'll fix those things and upload a new version. And I have no clue how I got duplicate ID's... I changed the Id to create a new object, but thats it. I must have messed up. But I'll try again. :)
BTW thanks for reviewing.
EDIT: Whats weird is, I actually put food on the table, had a bed, and other things in the first one, The additions are in the second. I don't know how to merge the two files, so half is in one, half is in the other. Weird. How do I merge them for version three?
EDIT 2: DUH! Theres two testhhouse interiors, one is a dupllicate. That's where the duplicate ID warning must have come from.

EDIT 3: Man there's too many edits! But here is the third version of my house. It has fixed lighting, with extra stuff, and I put file 1's content into file 3 too. Everything hould be fixed now.

Terribly sorry for the double post, but I must get some attention to this thread without just editing my post again. Anyway! I uploaded V3 of my showcase house, please give feedback.

over all, much, much better.

-i'd still say its a tad too bright - i'd replace one of the candles by the bedside with a 128 variety and remove the one in the corner. on the table you use several light emitting candles, i would replace all but one with fake varieties (found in Static>Lights). it may look a wee bit dark in the CS, but in game it will appear lighter and more natural (since candles dont really produce much light).
-the logs in the fire float a bit, you may have to scale them down a tad so they dont end up bleeding into the wall.
-the bowl, cup, and spoon bleed into the table.

i wouldnt mind seeing a few containers, like a chest or barrel, but otherwise its good. fix these few errors and you'll have my recommendation :)

-the chair still floats a bit.
-plate with cheese bleeds into shelf, as does sickle.
-strawberry bleeds into back of bowl

i believe this is your 3rd fix? if so you should make a new interior. you pretty much have it down, so it should be really easy :)

The best int. showcase I found was a small/medium house. Just a house with 2 floors: a bedroom, dining area, and storage or study area. Make something that would appear in the game. Look at ingame houses for inspiration. Last of all, good luck!
