Just goes to show how bad one can get when one isn't paying attention.
There a lesson to be learned here: No matter how much you do something, no matter how 'experienced' you may be, there is no excuse for not paying attention...

sorry for the double post, but it's been a while. since my attempts to clean have all failed, i want to ask one last question. i'm almost positive that i know what the answer's gonna be, but i might as well try anyway. since i really don't want to download gecko and confuse myself further, and i've already shown that i am capable of cleaning a mod, i was wondering if you'd perhaps let this one slide? i've throughaly (sp) learned my lesson when it comes to looking around vanilla homes, and i swear i will not do it again. so, what do you say? *gives puppy dog eyes*
You'll see, I'll show you, that these, uh, civilized people? They'll eat each other. You see, I'm not a monster. I'm just ahead of the curve.

Wait, how do you clean Oblivion files without using Gecko? It's the only program of that type that I've used for OB and it really is foolproof.
I seriously doubt that you'll be allowed a promotion if you cannot clean a file, such things are elementary. I mean, what if such a thing happens again when you're actually making a claim?

I dont get what the big problem everyone has with Gecko. Cathartis just said it, I know N uses it and I use it and many others probably do too. If you need help installing it or something just PM me and I'll gladly hand over instructions.
On my end, your file looks clean. So I do not know if this is a glitch with me...
Seriously though, you cannot get promoted with a dirty file. We may have hearts but Thrig will just say no, which is a fair enough point. Cathartis was right in saying that if this happens during a claim, then boom. I do not understand why it wont clean, but if nothing will fix it, not even Gecko, then i'm afraid another file is the only way out...
And yes, for what it's worth, I agree with Nanu. You certainly do not give up easily, which is a very good trait.

TES4 Advanced plugin editor is what I use, I've never even heard of this weird gecko thing. I hope it is still around... (I got it near the OB launch)

A quick blast on Google shed some light. I could not find "TES4 Advanced Plugin Editor" but then again I did find several files with "Advanced Editor" in the title.
There was This which does most of what everyone wants but the CS Wiki says that this is the old version of Gecko.
So I deduce that Thrig has a secret program full of magic elves that do his bidding and clean the file, or that I didn't look hard enough.
Or you could just use Gecko...
(Or you could search yourself)

okay, i downloaded gecko and saved to my desktop, and then i selected 7zip --> extract here. a folder popped up on the desktop with all the crap in it. i created new shortcut and copied what it said and replaced the <insert directory> with "desktop". nothing happened. it won't let me open the shortcut or anything in the gecko folder. did i do something wrong?

Desktop is generally located in C:\Users\[Username]\Desktop (assuming you use Vista or 7, I don't know about XP). Just typing Desktop will not work.

You need to have the folder in which TES4Gecko.jar is contained in that file path, or it won't work.

here's the new file. i tried to replicate the old man's house from the old file, so it's got the same stuff. the story still applies, hence the trapdoor, but the journal is absent, as i didn't make the underground cave.

even if your file is clean, I think you probably need to know how to clean a file.

i know how to clean a file, using bethesda's methods (details, then deleting anything that I didn't mean to touch). it's just that that file wouldn't clean for some reason and gecko wouldn't work, so i just need to clean using the details way.

I was a little leary about putting this out there, but it seems to be warented seeing as it is a major sticking point here. You see, *I* never actually proved i could clean a file, and i have been promoted for both interiors and exteriors anyway. Prevention being better that cure and all, I figure being able to prevent a file from becoming dirty in the first place is just as good (if not better) than being able to clean a file once it becomes dirty...
just my two cents really...

Re-enacts scene from movie: NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
heh lol.
I'll check out the re-done int first chance i get... If you were careful not to re-do the mistakes i mentioned last time round this should be pretty quick...
JD
EDIT: 17 hours later and BAM! Hey look! a review!
> The front door sticks out from the doorframe, needs to be recessed back into it.
> Alembic bleeds into the surface of the table. I double checked and im pretty sure this is because it is 'centered' (the yellow crosshair thingy) right over a table seem.
> Book: Common "Book of Daedra" floats slightly due to bad rotation. However, i suspect that this is only the case due to the inherently bad mesh of those horrible LC stool/mini table things. In which case its hardly your fault, see what you can do with it either way.
> Book: Valuable "On Oblivion" bleeds into the chest (it has been "f'ed" to the wooden part of the chest, causing the metal 'straps' to bleed.
> LC Rug in the centre of the main room floats, no doubt due to being placed on-top of that trap door (if the trapdoor isn't going to lead anywhere for the purposes of your showcase, you should probably remove it all together). As a result of this, the two chairs float as well.
> On the writing table, there is a piece of crumpled paper the floats over a table seem.
Much better now. Since this is technicaly a new .esp i think your safe to give it one more round at the very least. Hopefuly thats all you will need.

Mostly fixed now, still a couple of things tho:
> The front door still. You need to push it back into the 'wall/doorframe' until the door itself doesnt show 'over' the wall/doorframe at all (there was also a very small gap between the bottom of the door and the floor).
> You moved the alembic, but one of the 'feet' is now floating over the same table seem as caused the problem last time around. Try rotaing it instead of just moving it.
> The crumpled piece of paper mentioned last time hasn't been fixed.
> Book: Common "Book of Daedra" now bleeds into the stool. You apear to have just "f'ed" it again, where as the adjustments should have been made in the object properties screen, if at all (it wasnt a major issue before anyway).
At this point, the front door is the only important issue in my mind, everything else is relitively minor (as in i have seen worse in vanila content). With the tables, take it from me, even if it looks ok, you should probably asume that it is bad due to those table seems. Being anal is a good thing around here!

Not quite sure how i missed this... Oh well, better late then never eh?
Only two things to mention:
>Book: Common "Book of Daedra"... guess what, its floating again. At this stage i am CERTAIN that it is due to that horrible stool and thus not actually your fault.
> The front door is better, it doesnt look completely un-feasable now. Personaly however, I think it would look better if it were recessed into the doorframe all together (as in the edges actually "bleed" into the wall and are no longer visable as a result).
Ultimately, these are only two very minor issues, one that is quite likely beyond your control, and the other that is only an issur in my head (not much room in there with all the voices mind you). So, i am gonna bite the bullet and say: Recomemnded for promotion for interiors and let the Thigster deal with you... Mwaa Mwa ha ha ha ha ha!

NPC needs to start slightly in the air just to make sure odd things don't happen.
Ownership not set
bed bleeds into the floor
calcinator bleeds
retort as well
Mortar and Pestle as well
chair at round table floats
most things on the round table bleed
book floats on one end (on the stool) This is because the surface is sloped
Lighting appears to be default. Change it to something more appropriate please.
Door should stick out more, like other houses with this model have it.

Whoops... door thing was my fault... he had it right the first time. Greyhound, do what the thrigster says (read it in C3P0's voice and it sounds so much funnier, 'let the wookie win' heh heh).
Also goes to show how easy it is to miss things, and why as a result it is safest to asume that it is wrong even if it looks right. Of course, I've seen vanilla interiors that had more obvious errors, so whatev...

great, another failed interior.
take 7!
inspired by jd's border forts mod, i had set out to create some forts for fun (i'm not planning on releasing them jd, no worries). i thought i'd upload the first int when done, the Imperial census and excise office for the Black Marsh crossing fort (i believe jd mentioned in his wip that it was called slough point). the int uses the leyawiin fighter's guild building, so if that's too big let me know and i can do something else.

You'll see, I'll show you, that these, uh, civilized people? They'll eat each other. You see, I'm not a monster. I'm just ahead of the curve.

mkay, i'm done with the main floor of the excise office. you don't have to review this, buti would like some constructive criticism so that i know if this upload is feasible enough for a promotion. i don't think the exterior is eligible for promotion, since it's not an island, and only built off of beth's lanscapes, but feel free to give it a look over. i'm planning on adding extra rooms (basement, FG and MG offices, bedrooms) so that's why you don't have to review it. enjoy.
