Tallven's Corner of Existance

Post by Tallven »

Well, hi!

I've come across TR a few weeks ago and started playing it without much of a look at the page. I've been to about two towns by now, Firewatch an Bal Oyra, and - I'm totally in love with this project. It's beautiful!
I didn't know how big this whole thing is, and the screens are breathtaking. I know how I'll bee spending lots of my free time from now on, if you'll let me. :)

Ahem. Nice speech so far. I'd like to consider myself an artist and am dreaming of Concept Art, though I'm not shure how much I can contribute. I can upload some stuff, though.

What I'd really like to do is to mod. But even though I've done my own personal gigantic house mod so far, I can't upload that. It's so vastly unclean and messed up, even worse dependant of about twenty other mods, I can't have anyone see that. The screens do look nice, though.

Lastly, I am NOT english, do have some understanding for spelling errors. :)

Just make something you think shows what you're capable of :) Then people will check out your work, possibly (for most people this'll be the case) point out errors or strange things. Fix things until either you get angry at the reviewer or get promoted :)

Welcome.

You don't have to make something gigantic, just something to prove you know your way around the construction set and understand TR's standards.

Ok. Now this is a very delicate matter and I'm not shure if I'm breaking any rules by bringing this up. I really don't mean to, anyway.

Problem is: I have a german version of the GotY-Morrowind. Which means, there's no way I'll be able to mod for TR, I guess. Well I've been looking for a cheap english version to purchase, but it seems to have been out of sale in Europe for quite some time now. And I'm really not fond of shipping costs that are double the price of the actual game.

Before you all start to flame me: I'm not asking for a crack or something like that. I purchased this game, and actually it's pretty annoying for a game to be one-language-only. I mean, how many games don't have any language selection at all? Grr.
The actual question is: Would it be possible to send me the english .esm files? It can't be that illegal. I mean, I couldn't play the game anyway if I hadn't bought it. So, just the files.

Feel free to delete this post if I'm violating the rules. But please at least tell me where else to buy the game.

Sorry, if you have the German version, you have the German version.

However, it isn't impossible for you to mod, even with the German version. Since TR doesn't (with a very few exceptions) cells from the original game, it wouldn't matter that people speak German in Vvardenfell, Mournhold and Solstheim. For interior or exterior work, there is no issues whatsoever.

For dialoguing and questing work, you might run into problems, though; because your versions' topics will not have the same name. This applies only when re-using existing topics rather than making new ones.

As long as you don't mess with quest stuff and simillar, you do not need to worry about this. You still can make exteriors and interiors with your current version.
PoHa: how can we best this trio of trouble? who will save us from this menace of sub-par models? what will we do?

I finally managed to get hold of an english version of the game, and I still wish to join the project. So I put together this little plug-in, and I hope it is suitable.

It adds a little house in Pelagiad, and it's owner, the breton Moira Dolmagne. As of now, there are no interiors. The complex is complete with the cottage, a well, a little toolshed, a corkbulb/comberry field and lots of flowers.
Moira sells some potions and most ingredients found in her garden, she has her own special greetings and a topic of her own. The people of pelagiad have three random responses when asked about her.

I tried to fit my addition as seemlessly as possible into the town. Moira is supposed to be a perfectly ordinary citizen of Pelagiad, with her own little quirks and personality. Does it stand out too much? Please give me some feedback.

Hm. Now I wonder if this just passed unnoticed. I guess it does take a long time to sort through this stuff...

Anyways. Excuse the double-post.

I guess all of the actual exterior modders are busy or something, mine hasn't been paid any attention either...

Anyway, I can tell you that this probably won't be enough to earn a promotion in exteriors. It's less than one cell, and uses Bethesda-created land. You'll want to try creating an island of entirely your own work, off the shore of the main game, at least 6 cells of above-water land, and detailed to about a cell off the coast in each direction. NPCs, dialogue and pathgrids don't have to be added for a promotion in exteriors.

One thing about your current submission- your vertex shading is perhaps a little too green- try to use a green somewhat more desaturated, as it didn't fit with the shading in the rest of Pelagiad.

Why not show us some of that art while you're working on that exterior?

Hah... Myzel, you should check the dates. I have been active in the concept art forum several months ago. ;)

Actually, I'm not really looking for a promotion in exteriors, since I'm rather not qualified for the kind of landmass editing pointed out to me. I'm not good at the hights (notice I made minimal changes to the landmass of Pelagiad, it was more detailing work). I'll try to get at least one interior into the mod and update again... Maybe I can even do some quests. Hm. I'm a bit of an all-rounder, if you know what I mean. Does this disqualify me?

Thanks for the answers, anyway. I'm too impatient at times. :)

Heh, how silly. I remembered your user name, but wasn't sure from where. I figured you were a new user and the similarity in names was a coincidence. Don't mind me then. (Though you're always welcome to be active in the concept art forum again) :P

Make a quest showcase. We're a picky bunch, but there's loads of work available.

Yes, quests are always appreciated! :)

If you have any experience with dialogue, or if not, can do rudimentary 'maths and logic', you'll be fine!

Being able to script would also help, but if you can dialogue, scripting is only a small step up.

I cant really vouche for anyone on this but yeah we're all pretty busy.

Tyrion is away/busy, As is Nemon (I would gather), Nomadic and I are very busy trying to finish of our claims which recently became high-priority claims, and Blackbird, Swiftoak, Zalz and others are doing there thing with their claims.

And some of us are studying for exams as well, which makes things more difficult.

It's just that time of year. :?
