My Alchemy Class

Post by Tyrion »

So I've been studying with the Mages Guild for two years now. My alchemy classes are my favorite part so far. Just last week we got to experiment with frost salts!

Yep, its CuSO4 5H2O, but shhhhhhhhhhh, as far as anyone here is concerned they're frost salts.

If you place about 130 grams of this stuff on a specific altar, you can summon a Hydrated Copper Sulphite Atronach Familiar.

Or just heat it until all of the water is out and use that white dust for detecting water/moist.

Make a Moist Atronach out of it. :)

This is really weird. I've never heard of this CuSO4 X 5H20 before, and then we had a lab with it in my chem class this week, and then another picture of it here. Small world...:)
You'll see, I'll show you, that these, uh, civilized people? They'll eat each other. You see, I'm not a monster. I'm just ahead of the curve.

I used this stuff 2 1/2 years ago when I was in quantitative analysis. We were doing flame AA and had to choose a metal to analyze. I chose copper, and selected copper sulfate pentahydrate as my salt. For that lab, I had to make a set of standards, prepare a calibration curve, and determine the concentration of an unknown sample. The flame AA lab was so much easier than the graphite furnace lab I did last year in instrumental analysis I. No messing with standard addition, or anything like that :P. Graphite furnace does give a much lower detection limit, however... and being able to do standard addition when the sample matrix is particularly messy is a plus, too :P.

As I recall, it smells awful and it'd poisonous (if eaten). We use it as a insecticide (or fungicide?).
