Just looking for some info on TR

Post by Ocarina »

I'm quite exited, like everyone here, about Tamriel Rebuilt and I just have a few questions about it:

1. I'm finding it difficult to understand what Tamriel Rebuilt's main goal is, am I correct when I say: "The main goal is to make every area/world/country/continent/province, from the Elders Scrolls Universe into Morrowind and Oblivion"?

2. If the above is right/\.
I was reading on some website, that someone said that it would take 15 years to complete, if so will Tamriel Rebuilt be split into separate expansions.
i.e. once you've finished the Morrowind Province will that be called something like "The Land of Morrowind" or "Tamriel Rebuilt Land, - 1" or something like that,
Then a couple of years later when you make something like the Skyrim Province, will that be called "The Land of Skyrim" or "Tamriel Rebuilt, Land - 2"?

3.Not to seem rude or dishearten you, but if that's true(that this will take 15 years), won't Morrowind be considered to retro, if that's so, won't less people be working on it and less people paying attention to it?

Thank you, I would appreciate any replies.

I thought similar things when I first heard about the project. The morrowind engine wont recreate the entirety of Tamriel because the farther you are from the coordinates 0,0 you can notice a sort of shaking around you, also the engine most likeley cant support that much data. the Project is only creating the mainland parts of Morrowind. As for the Oblivion side, as far as I know the project is only creating Hammerfall. But then again I dont much about the Oblivion plans, perhaps Lady Nev or thrignar will decide on a new province to recreate, but by the time they DO finish Hammerfall Bethesda will no doubt have created TES V, so they would move on to that engine and recreate a province for that. I of course am not even a Modder for the project (yet) and you would need some confirmation from one of the adminins

Thanks for the quick reply, good news that there only planing on Morrowind and Hammerfall at the moment, that should mean they will release Tamriel Rebuilt faster.

I was thinking of being a Modder myself, but this expansions going to be awesome and I don't want to ruin/spoil it for myself.

1: We are making the remaining area of Morrowind Province for Morrowind, and Hammerfell for Oblivion. Nothing beyond this.

2/3: Time to completion is irrelevant to us, as we mod to do it right, not to get it done

Fair enough Thrignar Fraxix, I agree with you,
but in 15 years, a lot of people won't be interested any more and TR won't be as well known, also not as many people will be working on it, doesn't that bother you?

I understand a couple of years, but any more then 5, would be to long wouldn't it?

morrowind is already considered "retro" - however, this has not stopped TR from putting out our best work yet and winning awards for doing so. The overall Morrowind community may get smaller, but dedicated people will remain and new players, discovering morrowind for the first time or picking it up after a lull, will always be around. In the end however, we do not care about the number of downloads we will recieve or how much hype the comunity gives us. we care about making a Morrowind, true to lore and our vision, in the best way possible. If it takes 5 more years, so be it.

Personally, 5 more years wouldn't be so bad... 15 would be.
I suppose Morrowind is now on Steam, so that helps people get into it more.
So now people can legally download a copy with there credit card, rather then try to buy one off Ebay.

Just so you know, 15 years is not an official projection. :P That is not our goal date, that is just a random date thrown out to indicate you shouldn't be waiting on tenterhooks for us.

Things get done as they are done. If everything moved at a reasonable, smooth and steady pace, I'd say TR would be complete maybe even within 3 years. But things don't, because life is as it is. So therefore all bets are off.

Rest assured though that if it does take 15 years, we will officially call it a day and sign off (apart from the diehard crazies).

EDIT: Also please get smaller av(s).

That's what I was thinking.
As I said, I would guess it would take a non-payment project like this 5 years, maybe a little more or less...

BTW Lady Nerevar, I wouldn't say Morrowind is retro, until it's free from the Bethesda site.

Morrowind is young! I mod for unreal Tournament (Ten years old!) and the community there is still huge. awesome games like Morrowind, UT, AOE, etc, are timeless.

Yes, but the UT3 one would be bigger...

I do agree with you though, Morrowind is still young enough to have mod databases and mods being made for it, but I think its only got about 5 to 10 years at the most for "good" mods to be made for it.

I can still pick up a GOTY edition of MW from Best Buy, why would anyone need to use Ebay?

We've been at this since 2001, we aren't stopping until we are done. Those "Diehard Crazies" are larger in number than many would think. The community isn't going anywhere, despite what the semi-annual paranoid threads on the BGSF say.

Thread locked as this is not a productive discussion, and all questions have been answered
