Hello all + an idea about being a Hortator

Post by feco91 »

Hi everybody!

Let me introduce myself: I am Ferenc Madari from Hungary.

This is my first post here, in the Tamriel Rebuilt forums, but I have been watching this project for months now and I'm very satisfied with your work. It's a very nice idea to recreate the mainland of the province of Morrowind (and Hammerfell, too, but my computer cannot handle Oblivion). I am not that great modder (I simply cannot mod), I can only support you with some ideas (well, not that many).

I have seen a lot of creative quests for Map 1, and I have come up with a new idea: the player should be able to become Indoril Hortator and Dres Hortator. Of course it wouldn't change the Morrowind Main Quest in any ways, it would be only symbolic to become the war leader of these Great Houses. But it would complete the set, for example, the Indoril would give us the Amulet of the Hortator, and the Dres would give us the shoes of the Hortator, or something like that (nothing unbalancing, as we would need to convince the councilors, or do some kind of favors for them).

This would be a really nice side quest.

PS.: Good luck in recreating the best fantasy world!

I don't see this working since they aren't prevalent on the Vvardenfell Island.

The Indoril and Dres really don't have any threats to their security that require a Hortator; they're far away enough from Red Mountain to really not care what happens there.

Also, the prophesy stated "Three houses name him hortator", so being named more than that would break prophesy.

Interesting theory. I'm going to side with Cat on this one though. TR has always been a bit rough when it comes to adding things that may compromize the Main storyline. Im not sure if there have been any idea about it, but what if the Mod allowed the player the chance to join House Dres or House Inodril? You could add some quests for them and some new items for rewards. And even if you cant become their Hortator, You could atleast have an Estate built in your name (like the ones built for you when you complete the quests for one of the three great houses in Vvardenvel.)

Yes, House Dres and House Indoril will be joinable factions in TR, complete with full questlines and strongholds.

as far as the hortator thing is concerned, I had a similar idea at one point. We figured out how to explain it though

Just my two cents, but I think Indoril and Dres would be happy to make the player Horator, AFTER they're Nerevarine. Really, it's like this: If Satan burst out of the ground in the middle of London, and then someone killed him, do you Really think the Scots would go "well we don't care, that was london?

looking at the descriptions of Dagoth Ur...
Dark Elf Commoner wrote:Dagoth Ur is the evil immortal enemy of the Tribunal Temple cult. The Temple holds Dagoth Ur and his hosts accountable for all the evils that beset the Dunmer and Morrowind.
Essentially, when the player has killed Dagoth Ur, he has killed the source of all evil in Morrowind (at least as far as the Dunmer are concerned) so I think they'd be pretty damn greatful. Also note, it quotes Morrowind, Not Vvardenfell. EVERYTHING is Dagoth's fault in the eyes of the Dunmer who worship the Tribunal.

A hortator is a temporary war leader for during times of great strife. There's no major threats to the country after the defeat of House Dagoth, why would Indoril and Dres have any reason for a war leader?

I have a wild guess: the major treats are the Nords after Dagoth Ur, or maybe the Akavirian races.
I don't know much about the story of Oblivion, but I think the Nords invaded Ald'ruhn or something after the Nerevarine went to Akavir. (Maybe the Great Houses sent him there as their war leader? The major threat is in Akavir? The tsaesci?)

You convinced me before, I just posted a guess.

Ehm, I'm pretty sure what happened to Ald'Ruhn was an Oblvion gate opened right outside the city and the Daedra completely decimated it. Certain NPC's will say this in passing. UESP also says that Nords have overrun House Redoran, but not Ald'Ruhn specifically.

Ah, I was wrong. I believe Raven Rock was overran by the Nords, then. Sorry!

Tis fine. I'm not much of a lore buff anyway. Just something I knew (since I'm more of an Oblivion player :) ).
