On Hammerfell

Post by Lady Nerevar »

As of today, Tamriel Rebuilt is officially ending work on its Hammerfell project for TES:IV Oblivion. This is not a sudden decision, but rather one that we have considered for a long time now, both as individuals and as a team. We feel that it is not possible to release a province worthy of the Tamriel Rebuilt name with the current state of work.

Why? We lacked the manpower. Literally everything needed to be created from scratch for this project, and we simply do not have the modelers to do it. It also did not help that Oblivion's quality of models was greatly increased compared to Morrowind; not many people have the skills necessary to create a single model, let alone hundreds to thousands, to match Oblivion's quality levels.

What will happen to Hammerfell and its resources? I, Lady Nerevar, and others will continue to work on the project apart from Tamriel Rebuilt. Its goals will be largely downsized, but it will be released, both as a playable project and as a modder's resource. If you are interested in offering assistance with this, contact me directly. We urge fans to contribute to their favorite projects, be they Tamriel Rebuilt or another mod. Work on our Morrowind project for TES:III will continue as planned.

Sincerely,
the Tamriel Rebuilt Team

Well tis a shame. No completion cookies for hammerfell then. They even had choc chips and marmite in them...

Better open up the morrowind CS. In fact. Better find my morrowind CD again. Or was it on floppy disc...

Like I said earily, it's sad to see the Hammerfell project go even though I don't have Oblivion. Still, I'm sure the parts of it that will eventually get released will still be amazing, and that our Morrowind project will be made all the more better.

Oh man, that really sucks. I was so excited to get to help. So, does that mean all work on the Oblvion side of the project will stop altogether, or will we begin work on something else?

I'd like to remind everyone that, as Lady N has said, the Hammerfell project will go on, it will just do so outside of TR, and if you still want to mod Hammerfell, to contact Lady N via PM to let her know you wish to help. We will be locking and removing claims as Lady N gets things organized and transferred, etc., to ensure no data is lost or work redone.

Man this really sucks, but i'd still like to help with this project. I guess it's really in need of modelers though, I can try to learn.

Hey it's not all that bad, Stirk was released for Oblivion, so TES4 wasn't completely missed with tamriel rebuilt.

Sad thing or happy thing, I could say.

Sad thing, 'cause one the one hand, it makes me sad to read that Tamriel Rebuilt will end its work after so many years, plus I would really have loved to play to that mod... Anyway, we've got Stirk out, and that's already a pretty decent mod.

Good thing, 'cause on the other hand, I hope it will help Morrowind to go a bit faster, and d@m#it, don't stop that project, it's just to awfully good !

Sincerely.

Seperating out Hammerfell i think will altimately for the best, TR will be able to concentrate on making Morrowind (and maybe quicker too as a result). And those of us (such as myself) that will be join Lady N with the intention of making Hammerfell under a 'separate banner' can concentate on that. Ultimately, to do Hammerfell to TR standards was just to big an ask. Oh well, as they say 'Thems the breaks'

lol "thems the breaks" sounds like a phrase that should be used in yorkshire and nowhere else...

But yes, i agree with you JD. I think its best I stick with the oblivion CS... At least something will be released for hammerfell.

This really sucks. Hopefully Hammerfell will still be released in seperate parts, but I guess that makes headway for TR's Morrowind project.

One is not planed at the moment. i intend to keep it smaller and more intimate, communicating primarily by email and irc. i have also set up a series of google docs to store and organize information. if the project somehow grows to a point where that is no longer manageable i will make a site and forums.

That's too bad. I was looking forward to Goldmoor, and I really hope that it gets released at some point. It's crazy that you can't find skilled modelers for Oblivion, considering all of the stupid crap that gets released on Nexus and PES every day.

I'm more excited for Sacred East, though. That's going to make my entire year next year, presuming it gets released soon.

This news has only made me more resolute in finishing my Morrowind showcase.

If I remember correctly LN was all for throwing in a bit of gritty sleaze into Hammerfell. Sounds good to me :) This will no doubt give those of us who had a different vision for aspects of Hammerfell the chance to take them further on our own steam.

Hammerfell never really got me as fired up as Morrowind did anyway and I found myself wanting to mod for Hammerfell but never really getting there...

Ironically though I did recently make a good ammount of concepts and artwork directed towards the Hammerfell mod that I still haven't got around to posting. Serves me right for procrastinating I guess.

A predictable shame. Best of luck to Lady N with carrying the project on in a more private capacity.

Considering that one of the stated reasons for this was a lack of sufficiently skilled modellers for the higher-tech engine, I wonder about the implications for TES V... Surely the same will apply. Do you think the end of Morrowind will now be the end of Tamriel Rebuilt?

Morrowind still has many years left in it yet! Don't worry, we're going to be around for a fair while :)

The partial province included in Morrowind really did help an amazing amount when it came to rebuilding the rest of the province, though. If TES V can include a partially complete province like Morrowind did, it'd certainly help us with any future provinces.

TES IV gave us the whole of Cyrodiil, which is why we had to do Hammerfell. New province entirely means we need lots of new models, which means lots of extra work our team isn't really equipped to deal with.

Hopefully this bad news will turn into good news for the number of modders working on Morrowind.
