Okay heres a pretty basic unshaded more-dunmerish Dres Pylon. I won't bother shading it and other specifics till the concept is approved:

I gotta be honest I don't like the pylon. I don't like the little thing at the top or the way the bottom looks. I think it looks pretty spacey. I for one just want to see something very similar to Turelio's original concept but made so that it actually works as a pylon.

Also, Obagovo: this image is the correct interpretation of Haplo's description of the L shaped base.

Is Turelio's the example Haplo gives at the start of the thread? I couldn't find it on his art thread. And I kind of just want to know if the face fits, screw my crappy architectural designs. Cause I tried a face like the one in Haplo's example and that got shot down. Maybe someone else should do this...

Don't get dis-heartened, you art is good, but differnt people have differnt opnions. Try doing a range of pylons like Myzel did with the windows

Sorry about my lack of updates. Got a little bogged down by classwork and this had to take a backseat. Now that it's resolved, here's the 2x3s with stairs, one open and one covered:

hey Obagovo, cire said something about the scale being off for these to work for Morrowind modeling. I'll let him extrapolate though.

Basically all these exterior building pieces need to snap. Therefore, I have been using imported tiling MW models to work off of and not these drawings. This requires me to change the dimensions of the buildings you've been posting. If I use this workflow, you don't need to make these to exact proportions... top, side and 3/4 sketches will do fine.

suuure would be nice if we could get a couple more of these sketches done so maybe more could be modeled of the set...

(also, changes to previous drawings based on cire's comments)

Maybe Obagovo is on Christmas vacation. Or you could just thank him for the very helpful numerous sketches he's produced thus far.

I wasn't just talking to obagovo, I was talking to everyone. misc things at least could be done by other people easily, if people are worried about stealing obagovo's thunder.

I just don't want to see this stall out and be forgotten.

I was wondering where we were upto on this and am glad TF posted to stoke it up again as I have a few ideas for some misc dres architectural stuff but wasn't sure if my suggestions would maybe be leading us away from an established set. The stuff I have in mind is in fitting with the basic velothi style that we seem to have come to so far. Balcony add on's and such - some lamps/lanterns/impaled glow-worms too.

I'm about to call it quits with Oblivion too. The fact that it makes use of normal maps seemed to be the only thing that is/was keeping me hanging onto it, there's just too much that needs to be modded with that game to make it worth playing!

I'll be reinstalling Morrowind/Tribunal/Bloodmoon and my old dvd of "tinkerings" tomorrow and then hopefully I'll get useful again as far a models are concerned. I'll post some concepts here soon too.

Haplo Edit: I believe Morrowind Code Patch or MGE or something enabled the use and detection of normal maps for Morrowind.

Glad to hear that Nalin. This is the functional sketch thread, so other concepts should go in the normal non-sticky thread.

I look forward to seeing your input

Good, I'm glad Nalin's contributing because I have virtually no motivation to work on these boring-ass buildings. :p

A little note on this:
I wanted to propose a design for doors, doorjams and windows, but there should be a problem due to the inclination of the external walls: in the CA I noyticed in my showcase (when I actually tried on a dres villa based on Turelio's CA): doors and windows are supposed to be aligned to the walls (meaning having the same inclination which is - if I haven't missing somethin) variable) or they have to be straight vertical, a different inclination (like the "self closing doors" of reinassance and middle-age ) or the same inclination of the building as shown in the concept art? because normally with this kind of walls windows are made straight vertical into a jutting element (like velothi and necrom doorjams, i.e.) OR carved into the wall (which is impossible if the wall is an object and the windows another object). I think making low-jutting doorjams and windows would be perfect, but then the wall inclination must be the same for everything everywhere AND it would be quite difficult to gridsnap, unless modeler wouldn't take some precautions.

(BTW, I'm not abl to see Myz windows lineup, hope it's just me but the link seems broken)

if the door and window pieces work like the common exterior windows, I don't see a problem. I'm no expert though.

As for the windows, the link works for me.

the problem should be if the pieces (more for the windows than the doors) are thin and diagonal pieces, risking to be difficult to position correctly if gridsnapped. Modelers or "interiorists" should use precautions in placing them, unless the piece is straight vertical with a jutting jamb. In this case the windows should be more circle-ish (meaning with a ratio between dimension closer to one, i don't know how to explain that) or something, I didn't saw them in detail, but from the thumbnail myz windows looks to elongated to be placed into a jutting jamb (ok, cool for straight walls but as i can see dres set is mostly with walls "a scarpa" - sorry but i didn't found a translation for that - and corner buttress)... dunno if i explained myself...

I think doors and windows should be made vertical, and I don't see any problems with this if the wall angle is high enough. The real tricky part is getting just the right angle, so that the buildings clearly appear trapezoid while avoiding problems like these.

Myzel is currently working up a general color scheme for the textures. Cire is working on models whenever he is up for it.

In order to get this process moving better, I'd like cire to post screenshots of every model he has made individually. This will let other potential modelors perhaps contribute to this process. Also, do we have an enumerated list of what still needs to be drawn? Perhaps things can be marked a certain way once drawn, then marked a different way once modeled.

Noted, here are the cantons I posted on the irc:

Those are pretty much the same size as Velothi cantons, so Dres manors and buildings can be placed on top of them.

Right now, all of Dres architecture is split into two FCG's: a second FCG with unique Dres buildings was meant to be created when this one was done. I honestly see no more reason to postpone it, so we have two options: creating a second FCG with the rest of the Dres buildings or merging it into this one.
I favor a separate FCG but I suppose it won't matter that much.

Edit: I added color marking to the first post indicating what has been supplied.
