I am new here

Post by Xargoth »

Hey guys! I have contemplated joining you for a while and decided to go ahead and join! I am not that great in the way of 3d design, but am teaching myself how to script. I love drawing and creating new worlds on paper, so, a concept artist would probably fit me most. I do a little with gmax when i can, however, i have no knowledge about nifscope. I love writing too, so I might be useful in that section, however I know not much in the way of importing stories into the tescs. But, that is pretty much what I can do. If Tr rebuilt can use me, please do!

Well, it would probably be a bonus if you showed us some of your work. Thats kinda whats the showcase is meant to be about.

Welcome to the forums! Yeah, to expand on what feriluce said - if you want to help great, TR could always use more hands. You say you would be a good concept designer - post up a drawing in this thread (related to morrowind) and get some feedback. Im not sure if you can get promoted to TR modder for just concept art but im sure if its good enough...

Also have a browse through the concept art forum if you can see it, im certain you can. Take a look at some of the current concepts and pitch on in ideas and stuff. I would, though, recommend looking at the TES CS in further detail. Find some good tutorials on the internet and just get some backup tools in your belt just in case you wanna try out for another area of modding.

So yeah, Welcome to the forums and have a good time!

/end longest welcome post ever.
If you read this, send 30 jelly babies to The Midlands, England. Ill collect them later.

Alright, here is a short story based on morrowind lore. I do know some about the construction set and have released a mod, however, modeling is where I am not that great. I will get some concept art up, however, where should i post it and what should I make?

Shapeshiftr: Thanks for reviewing, I appreciate the help. You commented on how much text goes into a proper review. I'm glad you noticed; there's a reason lit mods hate 15-page word documents. :p

____

I'm going to go through and pick out the parts that need addressing.
Arms hang loosely by his sides and tattered clothes gripped loosely to his young body.

Start the sentence with 'his' in this case. While it's unlikely that he is a traveling arm salesmen, let's just make sure. Also, find a thesaurus and mix your adverbs up a little. Your verb isn't even close to right. Try again. :p
His personality was shown by his small, unkempt beard and hair that whipped in the wind like the prairie grass surrounding him.
You could reword this to build more character.
Many a time, like now, one could find him with his guar as they stared at the mountains, letting nature soak into their souls.

The 'one' tells me you're talking in the objective tense. It's very formal and doesn't allow first and second person. I'll be looking for these the rest of the paper.
His guar was bleeding in more than a few places, and, as the man approached him, the guar let out a content hum.

The ", and," construct is almost always wrong but if you must use and don't put a comma after it if you don't have to stop for it to make sense. It's better to just put a period and start a new sentence or use a semicolon if both sides can stand on their own as a sentence and are related or supporting of one another.

The "the man" doesn't make much sense as he is a main character in the story. You already used "the Imperial," why is that wrong now?
The guar had saved the man from certain death; however, he had lost his life in the process.
It had lost its life, but I'm happy to see that you were able to use that "; however," construct correctly. :)

________

A few things to think about:
  • Read all the stickies related to writing on this forum, they help a lot.
Please post everything directly to your thread. While I have Word, I'd rather not fire it up. Plus, others might not have the program.
Read the Imperial Library. The more you know about how the ES universe works, the better stories can tell.
Actually, just read in general. There are lots of different ways to write a book.
If you'd like to pick a topic related to the Elder Scrolls series that interests you and write an essay on it, I'll review it. If it's accurate and well-written, I'll throw up a recommendation for you and add you to the writing usergroup.

Be warned, I've only promoted on writing skills alone once. If you'd really like to get on the project, you should consider taking up something to pair with writing, like quests or interiors.

Thanks for posting something up, and welcome to TR!

TR Men post text in forum posts as that is easier by miles.

edit: except when it is as long as that, then .doc or .txt is preferable. PDFs are incredibly inconvenient.

Lit Mods are a fickle race of people. We like our warm fires set at 451 degrees feirenheit, and we keep it stoked with nice trashy romance novels. Aside from that, our most important trait is that we are really lazy. Since we're the ones that let you in our vaulted halls of text and stuff, you should probably just paste the text.

But yeah, I guess we're just not real men. :p

Alright, I fixed the mistakes and re-wrote some sentences. I will try to get another piece up soon. Thanks for the help too!

The Guardian Guar

He looked rather like a statue. His grim eyes never strayed from their target and his tattered clothes showed his poverty. The personality that made him was shown by his small, unkempt beard and hair that whipped in the wind like the prairie grass surrounding him. Although he was an avid hunter and knew most things about the surrounding mountains and wilderness, his liking was for the guar. He lived with his pet guar and shared all he had with the scaly creature. Many a time, like now, you could find him with his guar as they stared at the mountains, letting nature soak into their souls. His guar, which he had with him now, began to hum. The surprised Imperial turned to see it slowly nodding its head and clawing the ground. He let out a sigh and began walking over to the anxious animal.
“Hungry again, eh? Right then, we had better head back,â€Â￾ he said before mounting the discontented animal. They journeyed back to his small shack and the man began preparing their food. Throwing some spices and meat together, he quickly placed together a small meal for himself and the guar before heading to bed.
The next day, he awoke to a strange sight. His guar was nowhere to be seen and blood speckled the ground. Panicking, he followed the muddy tracks of his guar’s large feet to the woods. A hundred meters in, there lay his guar with ten dead nix-hounds surrounding him. His guar was bleeding in more than a few places. As the man approached it, the guar let out a content hum. It tried to get up, only to fall back in agony. The man stroked the guar’s head as it looked at him with small hopeful eyes. The guar had saved the man from certain death; however, it had lost its life for him in the process. The guar’s eyes slowly closed, and, as the Imperial walked back to his dwelling, the clouds released their rain.

For any kinda document .pdf is far superior to .doc, if for no other reason than that not all people have word.

But yea, for short stuff like this posting it directly in the forum is easiest.

Not for our purposes, now don't argue this further.

Agreed, this version improved in several areas, while I did see that you made some places more awkward. Nice job, though. Now, if you're still interested in being promoted for literature, let's see some lore-based non-fiction. Imperial-libray.info is a great source for practically anything you want to know about TES lore/history. Find something in game/on site that interests you, research deeply to really know everything there is to know about the subject, and then portray your enthusiasm through an essay/historical retelling.

Remember, look at my previous post for some good tutorials to start out with. As Nanu stated, only one TR Modder has ever been promoted solely upon literary talent.

I look forward to checking some of your stuff out. Good luck.

Ok, I am still working on this, it's just taking a long time with high school and all. I am working on a little mod and a work of literature. One question, is madmax's horse riding script modder's resource freely redistributable? It is downloadable from here http://www.mwmythicmods.com/daggerfall.htm

Anyhow, It is comming along, and i have not given up on this!
