Samir's Showcase

Post by SamirA »

Ok so I have finally decided to try my hand at making interiors in the CS and I'm trying to create a nice little Hlaalu home with de_p furniture perhaps for a reclusive alchemist whose only monetary concern is alchemical ingredients and aparatuses. I just have a question about TESAME before I continue onwards and submit my ESP. Do I mark and label everything that says GMST out to the left for removal? I loaded up TESAME and there were a ton of entries listed (all about werewolves even though I have only touched interior stuff) and I was unsure about what to remove. My ESP was listed and the interior I accidentaly messed with along with the other weird GMST listings and the TES ESP. Any help here would be good as I want to post a nice clean ESP on here. :)

Thanks, Samir

EDIT: Do I need to also add Door Markers to the interior even if I am not linking it to an exterior?

As far as I know, GSMTs are supposed to be removed, and no unless you are linking to an exterior, you don't need a door marker (as that is then in-cell representation of a link to an exterior) Granted, I am somewhat new to the process of interior creation, so don't quote me on anything.

The GMST's you are talking about are known as the "72 evil GMST's". And yes they should be cleaned out of your file.

They are caused by not loading the tribunal and bloodmoon .esm's when working in the CS.

Your showcase should be dependent on MW, TB, and BM anyway so these wouldn't show up.

You can also load TR_data.esm to be able to use TR assets in your showcase. It's not required, but highly recommended.

Hope that helps clear things up. :)

Edit: Yes. You need to add doors in the appropriate places, but don't link them to the exterior. Door markers show up only when you link the door.

Thank You KiteFlyer that was the answer I was looking for. I didn't know Door Markers showed up like that. I have placed doors there already. I hadn't used tribunal and bloodmoon due to the huge number of error messages and the trouble it is to change the morrowind ini on my windows 7 machine. I guess I will go ahead and make the change for the skip all message now.

Also in regard to TR all I need to do is check TR_Data and not any of the maps I may have? All of this is valuable information for me and with this knowledge and what I have done so far in the CS I am confident I can make a decent showcase.

Only check TR_data. You don't need to check the maps at all.

I'm also on Win 7 x64. I haven't had any trouble at all. I would recommend turning off UAC though. That's what usually causes problems. :)

User Access Control.

It's supposed to help fight viruses and hackers, but it's a pain for older software to deal with. You may be able to get by without disabling it, but if you have problems getting the .ini file edited it will be the first suspect.

Ok so here goes my first attempt at playing around in the Morrowind CS. It is an interior made to fit a Hlaalu exterior shell I liked in Balmora. (it does not link there I just liked that shell and matched my interior accordingly)It should be using de_p with no style mixing (although some items are com such as fork and such things that you cant find in de_p obviously). I tried to be meticulous about alignments of things and floating/bleeding. Sacks and bowls bleed slightly for obvious reasons. Well here it is, let the scrutiny begin!

P.S. The cell is titled TR_test_interior_HLA or something along those lines (it's right under the TR test cell).

Very nice. You're file is clean, there are no outstanding floaters/bleeders that I noticed, and you follow a consistent style. Some of the objects look like they're angle-snapped, so you might want to look at that.

You don't in a sense have to be meticulous with every individual object. Sure, it shouldn't bleed or float, but I think the idea is to look at objects as a group - how they relate to each other. Together with the style of the interior and the person(s) living in it, I believe that's how you make a good interior.

Oh yeah I agree, I simply meant I was meticulous in making sure each object was placed properly. I put each object in with respect to my initial thoughts of this guy being a reclusive alchemist. His furniture and nearly everything in there was crap except for his alchemical items and ingredients. He is also more focused on alchemy than eating which is why he left his dinner with a fork stuck in it and moved on to writing notes about his ingredients on the other end of the table. I think I stayed true to my vision. I just think that if you are going to do it right you need to have your vision, stay true to that, and then place the items as best you can so that it has that lived in feel and is realistic.

Thanks for looking over my file. I am encouraged by what you have said as this is literally my first interior in the CS and by your words it seems like I did well. I hope someone will come along and give me an in-depth review now so perhaps I can move on to making interiors for the project. :)

Ho Samir. I had a look at the file.

Firstly, I have to say: this showcase is very good regarding the fact it's your first attempt. You seem to have looked at many other showcases and the tutorials, which is very good as well.
Your rotation skills are good. You also cluttered the house well. I list the physical errors I found below. Don't be frightened by the amount; these are only minor errors, and I also listed the slight rotation errors that are usually fixed by the reviewer without being mentioned at all. Just one thing to mention first: You bled the 02 sacks a bit too much.

lower floor:

-light_com_candle_07_128 does not rest properly
-ingred_comberry_01 needs some rotation
-apparatus_j_alembic_01 floats on one side
-furn_de_p_chair_02 floats twice
-Misc_Inkwell floats
-Misc_Quill does not rest properly in the inkwell
-furn_de_rope_03 is hanging strangely; I'd move it a bit sidewards
-light_de_lantern_04_157 bleeds into furn_de_rope_03
-light_com_candle_07: the radius is too big. There shouldn't be any radii overlapping actually.
-misc_com_bottle_09 is slightly half-floating

upper floor:

-light_de_lantern_04_157 bleeds into furn_de_rope_03
-bk_ShortHistoryMorrowind floats
-bk_redorancookingsecrets
-bk_AlchemistsFormulary bleeds into table
-com_sack_03 bleeds slightly into the railing
-misc_de_pitcher_01 floats
-common_shirt_05 is half floating
-misc_de_goblet_02 does not rest properly

If you fix these errors, I will be glad to recommend your showcase.

Don't worry those things didn't scare me. I raised the 02 sacks a bit so hopefully they are good enough. I think they look how they would lay were it a real sack. I fixed all of your other errors and I think I accomplished what you wanted with the rope that was hanging down in the lower room. I don't know how I missed that those two chairs were floating those were pretty bad while everything else was pretty minor, but I believe I fixed them all (some took a little rotation but thats the idea now isn't it :P)

Anyway here is the same file plus fixes.

Alright. You fixed all the errors, there is still a candle with 223 in the upper floor, and the two urns in the lower floor could have been f'ed one more time, but it's fine I guess. I also caught some gold bleeding into the surface.

Well, I'm still unsure about the sacks, but I want to hear TF's opinion first before I begin to pick on you so...

I recommend you for interior modder

We'll see what Thrig thinks :)

Well the sack thing can easily be fixed when I learn what the TR standard should be for them. I'm just working on personal taste for them at the moment. Thanks for the recommendation. :)

EDIT: Thanks for all the advice as well Scamp!

Review:
misc_de_bowl_bugdesign_01 could perhaps bleed a slight bit more
the alchemy equipment is rather high end for a random house with poor furniture
sacks could perhaps bleed a little less

All in all, this is good. Member promoted for interiors
