TR and Steam

Post by gewata »

Hi,

I'm new here, and was going to download the mod. However, my comp has morrowind downloaded from steam. Will the mod still work or will I need to go and buy the CD version?

Thanks.

If you want to use the mod you'll also need Tribunal and Bloodmoon installed. Otherwise it shouldn't matter whether you downloaded from Steam or have a physical copy.

To use mods that add content (meshes & textures) with the steam version you'll need to re-date the .bsa files to their original dates. If you plan on using 3rd party programs (MGE, FPSOptimizer, etc.) you'll need to disable the community UI in Steam. There are a lot of threads on the subject at BGSF. :)

OK I have absolutely NO idea what that means. Sorry, I'm not very computer literate. I have managed to get the TR mod onto steam (saved it into the correct folder at last), but now When I go to, for example, Firewatch (the only place I've tried so far, it comes up with a warning that

"Model load error

Meshes\TF\f\TR_furn_banner_FW-01.nif cannot load file in Meshes\TF\f\TR_furn_banner_FW-01.nif.

Will use the default object Marker_Error.NIF

Continue running exectuable

Yes No"

And more things like that. if you press no the game closes, if you press yes until they stop, it loads but you get lots of yellow triangles with purple exclamation marks in them. I'm guessing these are the error markers, but how do I get rid of them? I presume this is what Kiteflyer was talking about, but I don't know how to.

Thank you, and I'm sorry if you have answered this question before (which is probably quite likely).

The errors you're getting are caused by morrowind seeing the standard .bsa files (where all the meshes and textures are) as being the most current resources for the game because steam copied the .bsa files with the date you installed morrowind. Morrowind always uses the most current (newest date) file first, so it won't look for the older TR files that it should. You can use a redate utility to set the file dates for the standard .bsa files to what they were originally.

There are quite a few threads on how to do this and where to get the program you need to change the .bsa dates on BSGF.

Just search for the keyword "steam" and you should be able to find everything you need. :)

Thanks. That makes sense... I guess.

Can you recommend any (preferably) free file redaters that will work on windows 7?

Thanks.
