Bored with Oblivion?

Post by Jon_vt »

I've been watching this project for an Oblivion overhaul now for about 3 years, and got to admit that I was really excited when they finally released the download! If anyone on here has found that they got bored with Oblivion and feel like there is no possible way to redeem it... check out this total conversion mod! Nehrim: At Fate's Edge.

This was put together by a German development team and took them around 4 and a half years to complete. I've played for about 3 hours and feel like they breathed new life into Oblivion. There are only two possible downsides I can think of: it is voice acted in German, but has English subtitles; and it is a 1.6 gig (yes, gig!) download.

But if you can make it past that, then you're in for a treat! This mod crew has fixed a lot of the problems I found with Oblivion and made the surroundings much more compelling, believable, and fun! Take a peek at this review recently posted if you want to read more and see some screenies: http://www.moddb.com/members/koroshiya-ichi/reviews/nehrim-at-fates-edge

Here's the download link if anyone's interested. Download: http://www.moddb.com/mods/nehrim-at-fates-edge/downloads/nehrim-at-fates-edge-english-release :-)

Cheers,

That's an impressive accomplishment. Looks a bit standard fantasy but in a much better way than in oblivion. I mean, the cities and regions actually look different from each other. 0.o

I'm good with Morrowind at the moment. By which I mean 'if I distract myself with something esle away from Morrowind my quest claim will never be finished and BC will beat me to a pulp with a nail filled cane.'
Warning: may contain large amounts of sarcasm.

Myzel- We never actually see slaves working on Vvardenfell either. They're always just standing there. If you ask me they deserve a good whipping.

The Greatness: "...and BC will beat me to a pulp with a nail filled cane."

LOL - um... ouch?!

Yeah it is your basic run-of-the-line fantasy setting, but you have to admire the amount of work they did. :-) Still doesn't make me want to mod at all in Oblivion...I still find myself loving modding in Morrowind, even with some of its limitations. :-)

I would have been more impressed had they used more of their own models instead of reusing so much from Oblivion, but it looks pretty cool. A reason to go back on OB sometime?

I'm already hooked on it.

The exteriors are fairly good. The mod has interesting cities, towns and roads. However, there are much trees on steep areas and so many bleeding trees.
The interiors are cool, you have even some out-of the box interiors.
The story is good, more interesting then Oblivion and has some surprises (like a super long fall). There are some good sidequests.
The dialogue isn't really good. Only the main quest and some quest are dialogued. The other NPC's have only a generic greeting and no further dialogue options. You can't even rent a bed in an inn.
Other notes: The oblivion is engine is capable of more things that I could imagine. It's possible to take a boat trip or even a dwarven train cart and enjoying the ride.

If the black troll quest is any indication.
I'm going to be dying A LOT.

Good so far though. :)

That the one I spoke of.
I'm past it now.
And watching that thing burn was so satisfying.
