Elisabet's Showcase: Artist and Modeler

Post by Elisabet »

Hello! I hope you can find the time to read this thread to the end :)

My name is Elísabet and I'm studying CG art in Denmark. I've been a big fan of Morrowind since I first played it years ago, and ever since I downloaded TR's mods I've been hooked. And well, I decided it might be a good idea to try and contribute.

I'm experienced in and have access to the following programs: Photoshop CS5, Autodesk Maya 2011, Autodesk Mudbox 2011, Crazybump. I also have experience in programs such as After Effects, Premiere etc. but I don't think that's helpful to the mod.

I specialize in art (digital drawing and painting), 3D modeling and texturing. I'm also pretty good at rigging for animation. I have no skills whatsoever in animating though :)

I could put all my work here in this thread, but I'm afraid that would probably clog it up, and since I like to be neat, here is a link to my school blog instead: http://elisabetya.blogspot.com/ as well as my deviantArt page: http://skapanorn.deviantart.com/

On my blog you can see most of my work, old and new, and my deviantart page has mostly illustrations, sketches or finished stuff. If you prefer to see images in the threads, let me know and I'll start posting them.

I hope to start working with all of you very soon, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! Sorry for the lack of any Morrowind related stuff though :P

Wow, this is some damn cool art! Welcome to Tamriel Rebuilt, can't wait to see what you can come up with for the project!

For concept art we have what are called Focussed Concept Group threads in the Concept Art forum, denoted by the [FCG] tag, the stickied ones are the concepts we need the most right now.

If you would like to get promoted as a modeler for TR and earn the modder title (and get access to a load of internal subforums) feel free to make a model from one of the available claim threads or concept arts so we can assess your skills.

Good luck!

Welcome Elisabet. I got to say, impressive artwork. Those models are amazing. I think you could do a lot of good here.

In particular, there is a creature we use called the Daedric Bat that is in dire need of replacing with something that doesn't look like crap, and also is a believable creature that would be found in a Daedric ruin. Any ideas? It will probably not be a flying creature, since those don't work very well.

Hey that sounds interesting! I think I can figure something out; do you have a picture or something with the original Deadric bat?

Thanks Peterboy! And thanks for the image of the daedric bat. Might actually be nice to know how big it should be as well. Is the model maybe available somewhere so I can have a look at it?

Its wingspan is actually a bit deceiving there, it's fairly large (which is one of the problems we have with it, since it spawns INSIDE Daedric ruins, its wings often clip badly into the walls).

Have you downloaded our Morrowind mod? If so, the Daedric bat models and textures are included in that TR_Data.bsa file. If not, let me know and I can upload the file here.

I've downloaded and played the mod before, but I just recently got a new computer and I haven't set much up. Would be nice to get the file here temporarily, so that I can at least start working on something now. :)

Daedric Bat

Post by Elisabet »

Hey guys! I've got a design for a new daedric bat now. Sorry for vanishing for a while, I've been busy travelling and seeing as I'm awful with travelling (I get tired and weird) I didn't do much work. BUT, now I have a design that I'd like people to look at, and if this will be approved, I'll take this to the next level.

Anyway, here it is:

With wing:

Without wing:

I show two versions, one with the wing and one without, so that you can better see the body. These are still pretty rough, not much detail and only from a side view, but if you want I can try to make some more detailed ones and from different angles.

The idea with the wings is that they are NOT used for flying, but as weapons. I think of the edges of it being sharp and can fold out only slightly. The arms should also be kept mostly close to the body.

Size wise, I'm thinking that it would be pretty tall, maybe to the shoulders of a High Elf. But I haven't really put much thought into that yet. I also haven't thought much about what colors it should have, but if this gets a yay, I'll get more into that.

I'd love some feedback, so that I can either refine the work on it or scrap it and start over. So have at it! :D

I agree.

I could offer a few suggestions but a sketch would express it better - I'll try to get one done tomorrow.

Let's drop the Daedric bat name for it too. Daedric Bat is a crime of a name and a relic of "old TR" - it's like calling Clannfears Daedric dinosaurs.

Just a note to whoever changes the name of the critter: please don't forget to rename the Daedric Bat Eye as well (an ingredient).

I imagined it crawling on all fours, but this also looks good.

I'm glad you guys like it.

Originally I tried to make it on all fours, but it just seemed clumsy and off. So I decided to try for something different. I do imagine that the wings would aid him somewhat when walking though. But I'll have to sketch some movement out.

Would be great to see what you have in mind Nalin :) I'm looking forward to it.

So did I. I also imagined it attacking with its mouth primarily - or exclusively. Snapping at you like an angry dog. And alot more bat-like.

I think these are different enough to be two distinct creatures... Yours, Nalin, seems to be something Hircine would hound his prey with.

Hey nice design there Nalin. But I guess we were going in two different directions. I kind of imagine the daedra to be alot more alien looking, while I could easily see your design as part of the nature of Morrowind. I tried to keep my design as far away from a bat as possible without losing the feel that it might just be a bat-ish thing.

Yeah, I kind of dropped the daedric part of daedric bat completely there, favouring big scary bat.

Mine does seem more suited to skyrim - possibly a border creature.

I'd still like to see it crawling though - I'm thinking, aside from the head, it might be looking a bit too Winged Twilight?

EDIT:

Looks very slightly less real world bat - but, yeah, I'm going to stop hijacking your thread now! :P

Great stuff btw - Good luck with the concept and model.

Nice concepts Elisabet and Nalin,
Elisabet, I've tried to make your Daedric Bat's nose more ugly, I've edited your concept, I thought that such nose is more bat-nose-like :D

Heh, now um working on Daedric Bat move sounds

I really quite like those horns on Nalin's image, but the creature itself would probably be better off upright (it'd certainly be easier to animate, I imagine).

Wheee hello guys! I'll be taking all these into consideration, I'm gonna look into a bit more detailing on the design. Animating a bat on all fours will be more challenging, especially because of the membrane between the wings. That's what kills most riggers: wings.

Nalin: I see what you mean with the winged twilight. I didn't realize it. I'll try to distance the design a bit. Thanks for the feedback guys!
