Silt Striders

Post by gewata »

Hi,

I am kinda new here (only managed to actually download TR a few days ago) but I am just wondering, is there actually any real information on Silt Striders? On UESPwiki and the Elder Scrolls wiki there are just a couple of lines on how they are giant insects that are used for transportation. Is there anything else or is that basically it? Because if so, that sucks, as the Strider in Seyda Neen is quite an impressive first thing to see when you leave the boat.
It seems kinda strange to me that no-one in-game really says anything about the 60 foot tall insects that you ride around in by sitting on their intestines and poking their stomach with sharp sticks. And if there is, as I suspect, very little lore on these amazing things, would it be presumptuous of me to make some up, as I have several ideas.

Thanks, and I apologise if this is in the wrong forum subsection.

I think there is more dialogue about them in-game. You just have to find people who talk about them... the people who 'pilot' the striders could probably talk about them a bit more.

It would indeed. I'd be interested to see what you have in mind though.

Also I seem to recall you are sitting where their brain used to be, not in their intestines. Also, the sticks are stuck into the remnants of their brain.

Blurgh. I miss the days Beth came up with awesome ideas like that and mentioned them in passing.

Where did river striders come from by the way? Are they mentioned in lore, because they seem to have a rather detailed anatomy. And they make awesome noises.
Warning: may contain large amounts of sarcasm.

Myzel- We never actually see slaves working on Vvardenfell either. They're always just standing there. If you ask me they deserve a good whipping.

Well, I can't really find much lore on Silt Striders, which is sad, because they are cool and unique. I have some thoughts knocking around, and most of them are now on paper, so if people think that extra lore on Silt Striders wouldn't be unnecessary, then I can put it up here. If its not a good idea to just shoehorn some made-up info onto a creature that Bethesda made, then I won't bother.

Oh, and Thrignarr, I always thought it was the guts because of the location on the body, as on most animals the brain is close to the sensory organs (i.e. the head), but hey, I could be wrong.

EDIT: OK, what started as a not too serious mainly intellectual exercise has turned out 3 pages of size 11 font text, in book form. As I said before, however, if people don't think its a good idea to just shove lore in anywhere, then I won't bother to post. As I said, it was mainly an intellectual exercise, and I'm a bit wary of posting it in case people think it's rubbish.

From what I know and expect, Stilt Striders are the remenance of an ancient family of Insects that inhabited Vvardenfell, There used to be many of these hard shelled creatures, from the Shalk To the Skar Emperor crab, but most shared the same fate as the Emperor crab and were used as building materials and even the Bonemold armour was molded in their shells. It seems the secret to the Stilt Striders survival was its usefulness for travel and who would want a house the shape of a stilt strider, it hasn't got the prettiest shell ever.
Hope that helped =)
