Dres and Indoril Architecture

Post by Vandal »

Hi, I'm new here, but a great fan of your project - really, itøs fantastic. I don't know if I'm asking this question in the right forum, but bear with me

I was wondering, how will House Dres and House Indoril architecture look - I mean, will it be variations over Hlaalu, Redoran and Temple architecture, or will we see something completely revolutionary (like fx the Telvanni, whose architecture is obviously very different from anything else). I always imagined Dres as having cities as far removed from "ordinary" cities as Telvanni, but then also different from Telvanni as well.

No pressure though, I'm just being curious and you've already made a better mod than I could have imagined, so even if you plan on doing nothing at all with Dres or Indoril architecture, I will still remain a dedicated fan :)

cheers

For Indoril, we are using the turquoise, green and grey architecture from Mournhold in the Tribunal expansion (with some additional architecture pieces in the same style).

For Dres, we're creating our own set, using large cantons as centrepieces based on the original concept art of Vivec (with buildings on the exteriors of the cantons.

You can find some of our concept art here:

Oh that is absolutely beautiful :) I always loved the Mournhold architecture - it has this sort of grandeur, but in a soft kind of way, not boastful like some of the other buildings in the game. Always seemed like a perfect fit with the Indoril, which are kind of a melancholy house, being in the sunset of their age and all ;)

Can't wait for the next releases :)

I know this is a rather old thread, and further that there's not going to much that can be changed about the project, but surely you guys were aware of the Dres architecture supplied by Bethesda?

I only wonder, was it a concious decision not to go with that style?

What you see there is, I believe, a temporary encampment rather than a permanent town or city.

I always interpreted those as housing for in slave pits, slaves living in cages and Silt Strider shells, not a true Dres town.

I don't think the pit itself is temporary. Probably a regular location that slavers use, since digging down ten feet over such a large area and then to carve and reinforce the retaining wall (which keeps the surrounding earth from pushing in and collapsing the wall) would be a really really hard thing to do. As you can see, the walls are carved or reinforced with elaborate (and decorative) supports.

All of the structures in the interior of the pit are for slaves, and Dunmer wouldn't give a crap what they were put in.

So everything down in the pit is probably temporary, but not the walls or pit.

However, who's to say that the Dunmer were the ones that originally dug that pit? It could be something the slavers moved into, such as some ruins or the remains of an old settlement.
