CS doesn't recognize CD?

Post by Tahreasa »

So I open up the CS after reading a tutorial and click on the button that says to refer to the cd for meshes ect., and it told me to insert the CD. It was already in the drive. I retried like 10 times. Is it because I have the GOTY edition disc, or something else?

you are putting the construction set disk in right? (disk 2)

There isn't an autoplay and the disk isn't mandatory. It just contains an extracted BSA so you can have access to all of the meshes and whatnot.

The GOTY edition comes in 4 discs(in most cases, I haven't heard of a 1 disc version as unless I'm mistaken(due to the fact its too large for 1 disc unless I'm mistaken) O_o).

Disc #1: Morrowind
Disc #2: Construction Set
Disc #3: Tribunal
Disc #4: Bloodmoon

The European Ubisoft release of the Morrowind GOTY came on a single DVD. The Construction Set files are in a subfolder.

so does that mean that I can't directly access them from the CS?

Are you sure you installed proporly? I'm using the GOTY(EU) and I've never had any problems with it. Have you ever been able to get on the CS?

Hi there-

Apologies for the bump, but I feel I'd share my pent-up frustrations with this issue as well in the event anybody else ever stumbles upon this thread and can learn more about the issue.

Tahreasa, the original GotY release of Morrowind in the USA came on four separate CDs - MW, TB, BM, and then a fourth disc with the Construction Set on it. This is so you can, of course, pick out the vanilla assets without having to extract them from the BSA's on your hard drive.

There's a European GotY version though, by Ubisoft in the case of the one I own, that just packs everything onto a single DVD. It actually has the "Data Files" folder like the Morrowind CS CD, but the Construction Set will never recognize it unfortunately, I guess because Bethesda originally wrote it to only recognize the standalone CS CD. You can of course just extract the files from your BSA's, but if you're like me you actually just want to load from the original CD because you don't want graphics replacers from your Morrowind directory getting in the way.

There might be some way to burn the Data Files to a separate CD and trick the CS into thinking it's the right CD, but I've never tried. Unfortunately all I can suggest is that you get ahold of the original Construction Set CD. I don't want to give any illegal ideas, but it wouldn't set you back much if you bought a copy of the 4-disc American GotY off Amazon or something.

Sorry I couldn't provide a more convenient solution - but that's how I made due. I mean, you even get a spiffy print manual, something sadly missing from the DVD GotY.

I don't understand, even if you use graphic replacers or whatnot, why don't you just take the original morrowind BSAs and extract them to an entirely seperate folder at a different location on your computer? That would not effect the graphic replacers in the slightest.

Well, what I mostly want is for the Construction Set to display the original textures and meshes in the render window - picking out vanilla files for making new statics and whatnot doesn't concern me so much as making sure I'm aligning objects in accordance with the original models does.

Yes and I get that. But why don't you just install another morrowind directory? These days it takes up what, 3 gigs or so, if that? Which is nothing on present day machines.
What I'm saying is, I have MGSO installed in one directory, and a regular vanilla directory I use. Each has it's own construction set, one has the graphic replacers, the other is entirely vanilla. This also means that you just extract the BSAs of your vanilla folder and you're all set.

I've considered that, I guess I've always just found that kind of excessive. I have two disc drives, so the Construction Set CD is virtually always loaded on the computer. It feels like the "canonical" way of doing it to me, I suppose, in spite of the noisy disc drive.
