Morrowind Vs Skyrim
As Skyrim was just recently released, the Modding around here seems to have slowed down within the past month or so. But really, who are we kidding, playing around Skyrim, in hopes of a glorious adventure. Morrowind churns out 10x the amount of playtime, as any modder could surely tell you. Although minimal graphics, and limited gameplay bring Morrowind down, the amount of effort put into the world give it a 10/10 in my books. Skyrim's good graphics and advanced features are all well and fine, but it cannot compete with everything that has been put into Morrowind, especially all the work that's being crammed into it around here. As Bethesda said, "We will not be doing a full scale Tamriel game again" TR says: "Screw That!"

I have to highly disagree. You should not compare these two games. With Morrowind being released about 10 years ago, it's a totally different division in the first place.
(Besides, Skyrim is an amazing game)
And don't say "Skyrim's High res graphics". The textures are ridiculous and barely an improvement over what we have seen in Oblivion. Skyrim's graphics, however, are fantastic due to the shaders.

Frankly, Oblivion and Skyrim are like all other sequels. Sequels always suck.
Beyond that, I've only played Oblivion a bit because the Graphics, Controls, Menus, and other things made me utterly sick at how they were done. Its a great game, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't done with the quality and dedication that Morrowind was done at. I'm sure since Skyrim is very similar to Oblivion in many ways that its the same way.
I agree with the fact that they're hard to compare being released so far apart, and that its even harder since they are in the same series but I'm going to list off the things Morrowind has better than Skyrim and Oblivion just so I can have a reason to compile an amazingly large post.
1. Simple graphics, nothing way over the top and "poofy" as I refer to it. The NPC's and other things in Oblivion looked too plastic-y to me and didn't look as real as the people in Morrowind did, and the graphics in Oblivion on a lot of other things looked too plastic to me too.
2. Easy controls. Morrowind didn't have all the "press and hold and then drag and drop" or however it works when you drop an item. On the Xbox all you had to do was hit like one button when your in your inventory and just start dropping like nuts. On the PC all you had to do was drag and just drop. On Oblivion you have to like click and hold and then drag around to where you wanna drop and let go of the mouse, it seems complicated to me.
3. Ease of access for spells, weapons, etc. In Morrowind when you right clicked(the standard control) you opened a bunch of menu windows for magic, the map, the inventory, and the skills. There wasn't a "click on this button to open this" or w/e, you had them all open simultaneously. In the inventory, spellbook, etc you also could see a lot more itemes/spells at one time than in Oblivion.
(I missed a lot of things, but that is just what jumps out to me)

You can't compare the two since Morrowind was a PC game and Skyrim is a console game.

What? The people of Morrowind looked real to you?TheUnending wrote: 1. Simple graphics, nothing way over the top and "poofy" as I refer to it. All the body, clothes and face mods that spawned into existence to make that shit look decent weren't entirely for nothing, I think.
Those pro's you list are are all curiously related to those aspects which are most often described as Morrowind's weaknesses, so I'm not sure if you're joking or if it's just a weird personal preference of yours.
Morrowind's graphics were ok at the time it came out, but it's gameplay system was already outdated. A dreadfully simple point and click combat system. An utterly unbalanced class and leveling system. The simplicity of most of it's quests.
There are many redeeming factors that make it a great game, obviously. Mostly though, I always say I love that game like many people love their first car. Technically it's a wreck, but it has character and has become special because of all the experiences I have had with it. So there's really no need to rationalize it.
I haven't played Skyrim yet, but I've heard it is better than oblivion, aesthetically.

i totally agree, morrowind is almost as simple as it gets. and comparing these two is like comparing system shock and bioshock.

your misconception, TF, lies in thinking that they are guilds. They aren't. They're just set up as factions, which by their very design won't be as cool or fun or involved as actual guilds

I still need to make a character to finish the main quest with. But gameplay wise skyrim is super. Great feeling when you walk the plains and mountains. The sound of a dragon falling down from the sky is just awesome. Just the graphics department feels like they are on an updated oblivion level.

Erm, Haplo... I hope your joking because both Morrowind and Skyrim are available for console and pc...
Frankly, they can be compared just not easily.
Morrowind is better than Skyrim and Oblivion... Oblivion and Skyrim are still good, don't get me wrong, but they aren't nearly as good as Morrowind.

Well, honestly that doesn't affect much except, like you said, the menu so they can still be compared. The only reason its hard to compare them is the fact that they were made years apart.

I have To Say, Skyrim is much better on the PC, considering mods, and creation. But It requires a helluva lot to run though.

Well, I haven't played Skyrim yet myself, but I know it does require a lot. I already have a job lined up for this summer so I started looking at laptops and I found that its extremely hard to find a laptop under 500 dollars(before taxes) that will actually run Skyrim.

The laptop I was looking at(a Sony VAIO) that cost a little over 400 dollars had a AMD Mobility Radeon HD 4250 graphics chip/card in it and I looked on UESP wiki at the list of graphics cards that will run Skyrim and it said that that card would run it on low.
So I don't know, I might look for one with a better chip/card or I might just settle with this one with a decently good chip/card.

Most desktops don't have wireless internet built in, they aren't mobile, and they take up quite a bit of space, so I don't know what I'm going to do quite yet...

I'm telling you, buy a damn desktop. You can run barebones for less than 300. You can get nearly double the performance that laptop gives for the same price (500-550). Buy a wireless card on top of that for like $10, that's it. Remember - laptops you can't upgrade, desktops you can.

Also, dude, I looked into getting a desktop on Walmart.com but the ones I've found for the same exactly price don't have cards that will even play Skyrim on Low or will just barely play them on low...
Oh and just in-case its needed in the future UESP Wiki has a list of graphics cards that will run Skyrim and they have another list for Oblivion.

I don't but I mean that is the first place I look at computers... If I like a specific brand I usually go to their website and see what prices are and such...
Q: Will we be seeing a Dark Brotherhood presence in Tamriel Rebuilt's maps? I know in the Morag Tong quests its kind-of hinted at that they have a stronger presence on the mainland, and its said several times at the beginning of the Tribunal main quest that they do aswell, but will we be seeing Dark Brotherhood bases/hideouts and a large presence in maps 3 & 4?

Other than that, Skyrim is a really great game. The atmosphere of the envinronment is more compelling than any game in the series put together, and the addition of concepts that haven't seen the light of day since Daggerfall (ie; radiant quests, regional bounties) makes it a good addition to the series, and a great enhancement of everything Oblivion got wrong.
Of course, the simplification of the skills system could have been tackled another way.

In my humble opinion Skyrim ranks third amongst the 5 games, with the full rankings being
I Morrowind
II Daggerfall
III Skyrim
IV Arena (Haven't really played that one much, due to not getting used to the controls)
V Oblivion
But that is just me being silly.

Skyrim and Oblivion in my opinion are nothing compared to Morrowind. Skyrim's quests lines are incredibly short, there is no detailed journal like Morrowind as all the quests have arrows telling you exactly where to go, which means no need for npc's to give you directions and let you find where to go. Totally ruins immersion for me, will stick to Morrowind!

Just logged in to say amen on the arrow thing too. They must think Skyrim players are a bunch of morons.OldFashionedGuy wrote:Skyrim and Oblivion in my opinion are nothing compared to Morrowind. Let's take on a quest to adventure and search dungeons.... "enters cave and walk through the cave on the minimap" ow there is the book I'm looking for... "walks back to the entrance on the minimap"....fast travel back.
Hate that and the fact I can't turn it off?
