Offering my service as a harpist...

Post by Eirreann »

Well I've been looking over the forum and noticed the stickied "Sound & Music Guidelines" thread, so I was wondering if you guys would want me to contribute my harp in that? I am rubbish at writing music, but I can play just about anything, if not by ear, by sheet music.
I don't really have many good samples of my music at the moment (I haven't had the time until recently to pick up any new pieces) but I have some stuff up on my YouTube channel from last year and earlier this year:
http://www.youtube.com/generalnerevarine
And here's my rendition (from two years ago, haha!) of the Morrowind theme:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8h84Ls2dZV4&list=UUfGOeQfWp31BNbixdM05OZw&index=16&feature=plcp
(admittedly, it isn't very good, but that was two years ago; I have improved quite a bit since)

As you can see from my channel, I also play Irish tin whistle, which if you can use it, I would be more than happy to contribute with!

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum....

Well, it's one of the few things that I can do well, haha! And with some of TR's past releases there was a sound track added, so I thought, why not?

Welcome at the forums Eirreann, I'm León van der Stadt the composer here at Tamriel Rebuilt at the moment.

Live instruments are certainly welcome in the Sound & Music department. I read your PM and the videos, and the only thing that struck me is the quality. Well, I do believe that you can play the Harp but if you want to do a recording session with me, then you must have a proper microphone to record clearly your Harp. So actually no static noise or whatever. The music now has improved dramatically in quality since the music that has been released years ago, so I'm a bit skeptical about quality now. The best free recording software is Audacity, which is easy to use. The video you play the Call of Magic is beautiful, but yeah it is 2 years old and I can't judge something that is a few years old. So recording through a webcam or a video camera is not going to work for both of us. the Samson C03 U is good and at low price, but like I said; it's all about the mic...
Sorry about the multiple threads! Some fellows over at the chat suggested that I PM you and post on Project Cyrodiils site, and I had already posted here....
Anyway, of course, the mic is a bit of an issue. I would be more than happy to purchase a better quality one! However, my newest harp has a built-in pickup, similar to what you would find on an electric guitar. Is there a way that I could plug my harp into my computer and record with that? I've used it with speakers and it picks up sound great (and, being built into the sound board, cancels all background noises).

Yup! I was looking at aomething similar to that for electric guitar. Check your local music shop. If your harp has a patch cable port to plug into a regular guitar amp then you can do it. I believe you can get either patch->aux or patch-> usb. No clue about cost tho

I don't quite have a music shop, haha! Could you possibly post a link?

Just what I said; Audacity is an awesome recording software, just take a look at it if you don't have software to recording with.
Will do! Thanks!

Would it be something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Behringer-UCG102-Guitar-to-USB-Interface/dp/B000PAPO9W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1336741461&sr=8-1

Yeah, if your Harp has the same output as the input of this Behringer then it should be ok. I think this is exactly what Tyrant mentioned; patch-> usb
Okay, then I'll put an order for one as soon as I can! Which, unfortunately, won't be for a while; I'm recovering from ordering pieces for a new PC build... Probably won't be able to order it until June, if that's all right with you.

Okay, I'll be able to order it with a large order of PC parts that I'm making on the 28th of June... I'd love to have it sooner, unfortunately I need this PC for some other projects that I'm working on, haha!

Just a shout-out to anyone keeping up with this: I now have the equipment to record, so Leon, I'll get a recording of that song that you sent me to you asap!

Eirreann,

I enjoy harp music very much and I appreciate the links to your performances.

I was surprised to learn the origin of the March of the Kings. I associated that theme with the
prelude to Bizet's L'Arlésienne only. I can readily imagine its significance in French culture that may explain why Bizet used it as a unifying theme in his work centuries later.

Thanks, haha!

Okay, another shout-out. The equipment I borrowed from a friend to record with ended up not working with either of my two computers, so there's a let-down... however come my next paycheck I'll try to pick up an adapter so that I can record using the built-in audio pickup on my harp.
Sorry for the repeated delays, guys, things just don't want to work for me here, haha!
