So, how are things coming along over here?

Post by Eirreann »

It has been over two years since I originally downloaded Tamriel Rebuilt. I admit I haven't had the time to explore it as thoroughly as I would have liked, but what I've seen I have absolutely loved, and I think that you all are awesome to be working on such an intricate, detailed, and overall amazing project!!
However, since I downloaded it I haven't seen much coming from you guys... so, how is it coming along:? Will the rest of the mainland be released soon?
I don't know how to mod worth squat or else I would offer my help... unless you need a writer for dialogue or quest lines! I've been told that I am a decent writer, and I would love to contribute to this project in any way that I can!

Hi, current status is we're a matter of weeks from releasing our next release Sacred East. After that we'll move on to the Almalexia release. NPC and quest makers are always welcome, do head over to the showcase forum if you want to contribute.

This is truly wonderful to hear, I was hoping that Sacred East comes out in few months, but in few weeks :) :), now I don't have to be so depressed that I can't afford DIII as it comes out :D

So if it comes out in few weeks does that mean that Sacred East is currently in merging process? And will Old Eboheart will be part of Sacred East? (Hard to say seeing the claim map, it seems to be on border)

Oh, stupid me :P, It indeed says that old Ebonheart will be in Heartland release, but I only checked the map, that's sad though :( that it will be in heartland.

I visited old ebonheart claim exterior map and it was truly wonderful and HUGE, upped my acrobatics skill to 300 and it took me five jumps to get to the top of the fort and discover a Spinning wheel there :O

Whoops! Sorry about that; I wasn't paying attention to the size requirements... I'll change it asap.

Awesome! It's great to see an enormous, ambitious project with many talented members still press onwards even after almost a decade of work.

Would you estimate the gap between the releases of Sacred East and Almalexia to be shorter or longer than the one between Antediluvian Secrets and Sacred East?

MUCH shorter. Gads taking this long for a release has hurt us more than I think anyone can realize.

I can imagine! But you guys are still at the top of the "Most Downloaded" list on Project Elder Scrolls for Morrowind!
Oh, and to anyone reading this from my PMs or the chatroom I know that I said that I was going to make a showcase quest soon, but I've got to put a hold on that as I'm transitioning from my cruddy laptop to a computer which I'm slowly assembling; will probably be finished by mid-late June...

Sooo, you say that the new update will come with updated versions of map 1 and map 2? What of the quests for map 2? Also, is it still on track to come out within a few weeks?

That's exactly what is taking up most of our time right now. (The quests have been done 1-3 years ago, but now need to be rebased on a new version of the ESM file, and beta-tested.)

We'll have quite a few quests for Map 2. The majority of misc quests and minor faction quests for the TG, FG and IC will be included. The Imperial Archological Society questline is still not done though.

What exactly is going to be tied to the next update? The quests themselves, or just revised versions of the maps?

Next update includes Sacred East, Misc quests in Sacred east, and as many quests as we have done on the preceding release areas.

Oh, but I realize.

However, a likely summer release is a good thing as many people are off.

Combine this with the fact that the first release of Province: Cyrodiil is less than a month away(alpha/beta version), and people suddenly should become quite interested in whats happening with Morrowind.

Interesting thought, I should ask the OpenMW guys if they wouldnt mind mentioning this stuff when they do a news release.
I will see what P:C thinks of doing a news release. I will leave it up to you TR guys.(although, considering that SamirA is a head here, its not far fetched to think things might get linked)

The rules of who can do what.

Post by braithwa »

Are the rules that served their purpose in the middle of the project still appropriate at the end of the project? Are they preventing people from contributing? Will they cause the end to be dragged out unnecessarily?

I think he's referring to the showcase process.

I do believe the rules are both good and necessary. Our quality standards have risen tremendously the last few years, mostly because every long-term member of the project has become better at what they do (and I'm quite proud of them for that). The next release is going to blow the previous releases out of the water quality wise, but compared to our most recent stuff in the Heartlands and Velothis regions, I'd describe Sacred East as "passable" at best. Don't get me wrong, Sacred East is going to be amazing, it's just that the newer stuff is even more amazing. Similarly, while considered by the community to be one of the best landmass mods out there, I am completely unhappy with certain parts of Telvannis. It is a great mod, but to us, it's below average.

That's why we need a showcase process. Average just isn't good enough anymore, if you want to keep up with the other modders on this project. It has probably resulted in a few less recruits than we would have gotten without it, but that's a necessity to preserve these quality levels. It doesn't mean we're unwelcoming to people without previous modding experience, either. I myself had literally no mods released, and only a very rudimentary knowledge of the CS and scripts when I decided to start a showcase here, and through making it and with the advice of our former Head of Quests, BC, I was able to make a pretty decent showcase and get promoted. If someone is enthusiastic and dedicated, I believe they can make it through without any unreasonable effort, and we're more than happy to guide their learning process and help them wherever we can.

I don't believe our showcase process slows us down, either. Sure, we could pump out more content with more people, but it either wouldn't be up to par, or we'd spend an awful lot of time bringing it up to our high standards. I understand that we're not exactly known for our efficiency, and I'd be surprised if the time we've taken for our upcoming release hasn't been ridiculed a few times on various forums, but right now we're actually working really efficiently considering our quality standards.

So if you're willing to join the team, please don't hesitate and make a showcase thread. We're a friendly bunch and would love to help you learn. And I can say without boasting that we're good at what we do. If that makes me sound smug, I apologize. D:

Also I would like to add that making friends on the IRC channel helps immeasurably with both any showcase work/feedback, and also getting up to speed at where TR is at.

Yes I have seen the screenshots.

I meant that calling something passable and then amazing is conflicting.

well i can imagine the release time will be much shorter, just by looking at the older claims map, tons of work has been done (and finished?) as well on a lot of lands outside Sacred East area!

Just don't cry blood all over your rig when your brain implodes from the beauty of Sacred East. XD

Personally, SE is my favorite of the exterior areas so far. All those nice little oasis pools, river canyons...

and i'm not using Morrowind vanilla-style here, i'm using MGSO (with MGE XE) + TR Map 1&2 ground covers, hopefully i'll be able to add Sacred East ground covers and improved signposts as well, Vurt's is the best for ground covers.
