Welcome Wagon

Post by Thrignar Fraxix »

So this was unanimously approved in admin and then completely forgotten because yay human error. Welcome wagon would be a group of Forum moderators with powers in the showcase. They would be the official showcase reviewers, though others would still be encouraged to review showcases. This wouldn't change how only heads of departments can promote people, this position would simply be a dedicated showcase reviewer. Anyway, as I said this was already decided to be a thing that needs to happen so the purpose of this thread is to find people across all fields who are willing and able to answer this call. They don't have to be HH members, they simply need to know their ass from a hole in the ground.

Actually I think the reason it didn't go anywhere was because the forum wasn't cooperating when we tried to make certain members forum moderators. It kept reverting them back to regular members.

Well, the forum moderator capabilities were not terribly vital to the position. It was really just to denote they were in a position of authority and perhaps allow for changing of topic tags.

Is there anyone not in HH that knows their ass from a hole in the ground?

At one point Wolli had volunteered to help out, but I haven't seen him in a while.

Yes, me! :D jk

But in all seriousness, this does sound like a great idea. Been meaning to comment on this earlier actually.

This is one of those things that gets discussed and then will never get done. It might be a good idea in theory, but nobody really wants to do it.

I initially didn't think much of this proposal but then I noticed how many showcases get completely forgotten. I think a welcome wagon is a good idea already to ensure that this doesn't happen. Alternatively, we could try a technical solution (email notifications to core members about showcase topics etc.?).

For my area of modding there are only a few showcases now and then which I already (most of the time) attend to.

But overall what would be the extra help someone could offer with this? And how will that help showcases? Most of the showcases get reviewed by "us" already.

I understand, the proplem is that, a potentially good one just slipped through the cracks, and he would have been promoted. I can also think of another one off the top of my head as well that we let pass us by.

I'm all for a welcome wagon, or any improvements over our current system, 'cause what we've been doing so far has been working fairly well, as MwGek said, but if we can improve it, then all the better I say.

Regarding Exovian's showcase http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/old_forum/viewtopic.php?t=23930 - do we need to revise the guidelines for int showcases? Honestly I can't seem to find any rules on second floors or the much important de_p skill we want everyone to have.

You don't need to have a second floor for an interior showcase, all you need is at least six tiles (which he has) so he's all set in that regard.

As far as the de_p furniture goes, that's important, as that demonstrates proper rotating skills. However, I would like to say that I think maybe perhaps we could ease up on how ridiculously strict our current guide lines are as far as how perfect they have to be rotated. (Or maybe we already have, idr.)

I don't think lightening up on de_p placement is a good idea, it took this project years to get to the quality standard it is at and due to this many things have been redone. You shouldn't go regressing now.

But is it written somewhere? That furniture with de_p is required for a showcase? Didn't we just get a new member who did mournhold style with rm stuff?

It would be useful to have de_p a requirement, and written somewhere where even I could find it :P .

Actually, from what I can tell, the only place(s) that it's written at all is in the showcases of newbies who come through and start with rich furniture. A modder (or reviewer) will come through and tell them they need to have de_p as a requirement.

So yeah, if someone new comes along and only reads the guidelines, and not look at other showcases, then no, they wouldn't know about the furniture requirement.

I'll go ahead and add in a section pertaining to that requirement in the relevant thread tomorrow after I get some sleep. (Unless someone else gets to it before then, in which case have at it.)

Taken care of, see the showcase sticky for details. It now includes a section regarding de_p. Hope it helps!

I agree we should remain stringent on de_p placement. Not all claims will have de_p, but for now it is an effective way to force new modders to learn how to rotate objects.

Oh, that was me, but that was for an interior claim. It was due to a misunderstanding on my part on the description "Imperial home".

Edit: I might have misread your post. Read rm stuff as com_rm stuff. Sorry.
