Confusing indeed. He says he went to Old Ebonheart and then he says he went east... Old Ebonheart is west of Darnim!
The original plan (I wrote the quest plan) was for Marcus to be travelling to Old Ebonheart from somewhere to the east of Darnim and that he ended up in Darnim along the way.
Something like that. Maybe this?
"Spoiled wine? Charna has a reputation for honesty, and I don't think he would let this place slip like that. If there's something to it, you should talk to Panelus in the other room; he was the one who ordered a bottle."
charna is a "she" the last time I checked (which was admittedly a long time ago).

"Thank you so much! I was traveling northeast of Darnim before I was attacked; the ashlanders live in a yurt in the middle of a plain not too far away. It looked like a temporary camp, so I hope you find them before they leave"
"Spoiled wine? Charna has a reputation for honesty, and I don't think he would let this place slip like that. If there's something to it, you should talk to Panelus in the other room; he was the one who ordered a bottle." I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to say here, maybe go with, "I don't think she'd make a mistake like that."
"So it was a Khajiit supplier's fault? Happens, I guess. With Khajiit, above all. I won't change my opinion of Charna for this alone." I think it's a bit odd to refer to Mahhjat as "supplier" here, after all Fari is the supplier and Mahhjat, her slave, is just the one who made the actual delivery. Speaking of Mahhjat, he's male, but I'm pretty sure the "she" in "Mistress Fari wanted me to send seven bottles of Sutch Wine to the cruel Charna gra-Mohl at the Windbreak Hostel. Mahhjat did not notice that the bottles she put in delivery were spoiled wine! Mahhjat is scared of Charna and her nasty temper. She may even try to kill me! Please, you must help me." is supposed to refer to Mahhjat himself, so that might need to be changed unless I'm reading it wrong. Maybe the "me" should be replaced with "Mahhjat" too.
"Haha, always check the accommodation before pre-booking. You should see the fuss that Panelus down the hall is making. Always leave a little leeway in your plans!" I don't really see a problem with this line, but feel free to change it to something else which implies Panelus is pissed off about the quality of the suite.
I must disagree - the ruin of strife is not well implemented. It is the only quest (with the exception of Folk Medicine) that I have tested and that simply does not work as it should. It has many loose ends and logic gaps. Like the ones I have described. I see no better way how to fix them then to re-implement the quest or scratch if completely for now. I am sorry.
@Ruin/Factory of Strife: What exactly goes wrong except when one of the leaders (orcs or bandits) dies? (I guess I can easily implement the correct behavior in the case of death, but I don't want to do it as long as the quest is under the menace of axing.) I agree this is not among the most immersive and sound quests around, but I still don't see any plot holes or glaring immersion-breakers in it; it's better than the quests in most other MW mods for sure. You've got the orcs and you've got the guys in the ruin; they all pretend to be adventurers beset by bandits, but they're all bandits and no side is better than the other. Not the most original twist, but not exactly unrealistic. I have seen worse quests in TR; I have even ranted against them on the forums on occasion. But I wouldn't want them to be removed from the game after being released. The last thing that we need are people claiming that our releases remove features that used to work (same goes for spellbooks, BTW). Sorry, just clarifying my position on the quest. Ultimately, we might want to solve this by making a poll.
@Folk Medicine: So what goes wrong? You don't get the topic "find an Ashlander" when you talk to a non-nolored Dunmer in Marog?
-------
@Why: What about the following:
Meras Drorim before you finish the spoiled wine quest: "Hahaha. What would be a nice Dunmer inn be without an Imperial fussing over the lack of comfort. [If PC Imperial: Oh, no, it's not about you, %PCName.]"
Meras Drorim after you finish the spoiled wine quest:
"I can sympathize with Panelus after what has happened, but I still like this place. This won't repeat itself, I'm sure."
Right now I am unable to retest the Ruin of Strife, as I am on my vacation. I will put an exhausting list of all things that I believe to be wrong with it next weekend.
It is fact that most average players will probably never experience the lapses, which occur in corner cases of the quest.
I hope my ranting did not bother you too much. I can imagine how stressful must a quest reviewing be.
Folk Medicine. Yes, I do not get this topic. I could have had add it via console, if I only knew it was supposed to be there.

No problem. I got you wrong: I thought you were referring to the quest as broken because you didn't like the design.
Bugs are fixable (though I don't have time for that right now).

When I talk to Sevra Andules about "Jeela's illness", I get the "find an Ashlander" topic added to my list. That's done via addtopic in the dialogue result. It doesn't work for you? Do you have another topic ("Ashlander" or sth.) that conflicts with it?
EDIT: I fixed what I marked as "FIXED" in my post above, and also your bugreport regarding Character Flaw. Very good observations!
I really do not like the design too much, but I agree tying the loose ends is the most easy solution. I will look into it next weekend. As for the folk medicine, I am pretty sure that is what happened to me, but I will try and retest the quest once more.
You've gotta play "Complicated Competition" in Helnim (talk to Nisirel, I think; or some other service NPC in the Telvanni part of Helnim). I'm looking forward to your comments on that one. :P
I actually proposed some retcons to fix this thing, but they involve adding new dialogue of the kind I'm not good at writing.
