Well look who's back. [to be read in a lackluster monotone]
So Greendogo sent me a message over on the officials reminding me of how I took steps to get involved in TR but never completed more than a few crappy doodles with a ballpoint pen.
So, I've decided that I'd like to actually contribute something. Something I'm good at: exteriors! However, I noticed a while back that I don't seem to have access to the subforums with the map downloads anymore. And I can't post replies to the claim topics. It looks like I'm still listed as a TR Modder, so I was curious what I didn't do that earned me this effective demotion.
I was looking over the current claims, and I'd really like to tackle 5-8-Red. It has Velothi architecture, shoreline, and the possibility to use the RR set in new ways - all things I love in exteriors. I will say I haven't done much with snowy regions yet, but the bit I have done and my past experience with exteriors in general leaves me confident that I can turn a good stone with this claim.
So what can I do to get onto the team again?

Nice to see you again, Melchior. The reason you were removed from the usergroup was most likely due to inactivity after you were promoted. If someone gets promoted and then never claims anything for two or three years, they can often be removed from that usergroup (though they keep their title to show that they once passed the showcase examinations).
What will probably happen at this point is that Nemon, our current Head of Exteriors, will take a look at the most recent file just to make sure it is still OK by our standards (they have changed a bit in the past four years, so we need to double check), at which point you will be re-added to the exterior modders usergroup.
Hope that isn't too muddled of an explanation...

Thank you both! I figured it was due to inactivity. It's amazing how time flies.
I'll go claim that.. claim and set to work on it this evening. I'm looking forward to a fresh challenge!
Is it best to ask any questions I have in the claim thread or should I avoid cluttering it up and make a new topic, or continue using this one?

Attempting to get approved as a TR modeler (see this post).
Here's my latest 3D work. Not sure if more is needed. I am also capable of modeling closer to MW's native poly count.

That should be a pretty simple request actually, especially if there are already petrified versions of Almalexia's textures available in the TR_Data.
I've posed statues in the past (don't ask me to model one completely from scratch though, eek!)

Here's Almalexia cradling an egg for you, Why (well, cradling in a symbolic way I suppose). Egg = Almsivi symbolism for birth (divine). So... it seemed fitting. Let me know if you don't like
I'll say this. It's a ****ing pain in the ass in blender 2.49b anyway. They reset if you look at the screen funny. I hadn't done this in a while, so I did this pose about 15 times... feel free to message me if you're interested in the nitty gritty of it.wollibeebee wrote:I would really appreciate a statue tutorial... They always seem to revert to the basic animation no matter what I try. But I haven't tried very hard.

I do indeed hope to still contribute, differently than I originally intended though. I guess I better make a thread over in the models and textures subforum. Do I need to be approved as a modeler or anything?
edit: started the other thread http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/old_forum/viewtopic.php?p=313618#313618

Generally, yes, you do need to be approved. You have shown you know how to model, though. So I can add you to that list. As for that other thread you linked, please be careful to avoid jumping the gun on a lot of models people make. Just because someone makes a lot of models for TR doesn't mean we want or need them, and I can't stress that enough. If you stick to only models that we explicitly request (we being the core, generally), that's great. Obviously we can't and don't necessarily want to confine people to never modeling when they want to, it's just that often times people model 40 "cool things" and then post them here, and it turns into an awkward situation when we don't actually use them in TR_Data, and sometimes modelers can get upset because of that.

From perusing a lot of the threads in the Models and Textures area, I've seen a lot of what you speak of. And I completely get that; hence why I only "modeled" (posed, really) the statue after Why (who I'm pretty sure counts as one of the core) requested (may be a strong word for his involvement) it.Haplo wrote:Generally, yes, you do need to be approved. Sorry, I have a tendency to overuse parenthetical accentuation...
Also, I certainly won't be offended if some of my models aren't used, I always have a use for more resources
