Kasrkin Saser's Interior Showcase

Post by Kasrkin Saser »

Hello, I've been a fan of the Elder Scrolls series ever since I bought Morrowind about 3 years ago. And even though I think all the Elder Scrolls games are great, Morrowind has a special place in me. When I saw this mod, I felt inclined to contribute. This is my interior showcase, it's meant to be a training room similar in the style of the Balmora Fighter's Guild. This is also the first room I've built apart from a few tutorials so I'm very new to the construction set. The interior names are "Training Room" and "Training Room Beds and Canteen".

Hi! Welcome to the forums! Always good to see new people, and your file looks interesting! I'm sure an interiors person will be along shortly to review it, in the meantime feel free to join us on the chat (click "TR Chat" at the top of the page) and of course ask any questions that you have there, or here in the thread.

Welcome to TR.
This was probably better than my first interior showcase, but still make a new one.
Place a house (somewhere in Balmora for instance) and make an interior for it. Make sure int fits exterior and is de_p (owner of the house is poor). Play with it, items have to rest properly on the tables (not bleed nor float) do not mix styles (de with com).

I took a quick look at this too and I think you're definitely on the right track stylistically. I'd agree that it's better to start a new file though. It's simply too large for a showcase, and details are more important than size. For instance, if you want to make a really great int, you should decorate each table and bookshelf on its own rather than repeating the same theme. That's impractical in large showcases, so you'd best start small.

A couple of things are important for a showcase - that it fits a building, that items are rotated properly on de_p furniture (it's pretty warped!), that there's no style mixing (there's Dunmer items and there's Imperial items, for Hlaalu use Dunmer, _de) and that it is thematically sound. As I said, you're on the right track, but I'd suggest making a smaller interior and focusing on the details. We'd be happy to give you advice in chat, too!

Looking back, I do agree that the previous building was a bit too big and I've now started making a smaller house, still in a similar style though.

Made a new interior. A small, poor Dunmer styled house, and I think it fits with a Balmora Exterior that I have put near the interior. If you can think of any advice on how I could add more things, please tell me.

Hey Kasrkin, welcome!

Just a few comments

-You need to rotate objects to fit the irregular surface of de_p furniture. You didn't do this so most objects are either floating or bleeding. To rotate things precisely you can double click the object in question and change the rotation values there. try changing some of those values a bit then lift the object and drop it again, and repeat if neccessary.

-Objects like misc_de_bowl_redware_01 can be bled slightly into the surface because it has a pointed bottom.

-It is a good interior by design (standard house) but it feels too empty. you need to clutter that place up! I find that the best way to clutter a house is to imagine the person who lives there and their personality and/or profession. Is he/she an alcoholic? add lots of booze. Is he/she a fisherman? add a fishing pole, a bucket and some slaughterfish.
You should also add tapestries to cover those bare walls.

Thanks for the advice, I'll get working on it tommorow.

Ok, this is the new file. I've fixed a few things that were floating or bleeding and I've rotated some furniture to give it a more natural feel. I've also made the occupant a hunter with the bow and fox pelts upstairs and also made him/her a skooma and moon sugar addict by adding some moonsugar bowls and some skooma vials. I've been thinking though, if the occupant is poor, could he/she afford all that skooma and tapestry? Any advice would be appreciated.

Edit: I also just added some more random clutter to make the room seem busier.

That is much better. It looks like you know how to rotate things to rest on de_p furniture, but there are still several floaters:

-You forgot to rotate the objects on the top shelf in the downstarirs area

-The moon sugar inside the tipped-over bowl is floating

-The skooma vials in the "furn_de_shack_basket_01" are floating.

Also, maybe you went a bit overboard with the amount of skooma and moon sugar, considering how expensive it is (unless the owner of the house is a skooma dealer..). And also, skooma is illegal, so the guy would probably want to have it hidden just in case there's an emergency (i.e: a guard checking in). Details like that are things you should always keep in mind.

Also, you should change the light settings. Use a similar interior (a house in Balmora, for example) to base your light settings on. Change the lighting by clicking the "world" tab then "interior".

And lastly, I would like to see more clutter. Just look around the misc items list and get to know the items. you could add some food to the plates, a kitchen area where food is being prepared. You could make a work table where the owner works the animal skins... I don't want to give too many suggestions, I'd rather see what you come up with.

You are on the right track, good luck!

If you use the TR_Data file alongside your showcase file you get a whole lot of extra TR clutter to use. Maybe there is some stuff in there that you can use.

Alright, this is the new version of the house, I've added quite a few things upstairs and down, and moved others. And got rid of some of the moon sugar and skooma.

Alright, let's see.

Clean: yes
Fits exterior: yes
Illegal to sleep here: yes
Style mixing: no
Light settings: still too high

-Furn_de_p_table_04 bleeds into the Wall and rug
-Ingred_hound_meat_01 on plate bleeds through said plate.
-Misc_de_goblet_02 on middle tier of shelf floats
-All forks and knives on the table downstairs either bleed or float

Comments:
-Know that objects that would be considered 'soft' (e.g: pillows, sacks, brooms...) can be bled a bit into the surfaces it rests on so it looks more natural.

-I noticed that on the work table just up the stairs you placed a wolf skin, an Argonian skull and some hound meat, giving the impression that maybe you think they are associated. I just want to make sure you know that these three things come from different animals. (This really does't neccessarily impact negatively on the review, but just making sure you know :).

-The lighting is too high. to change it, just click the "World" tab, then "interior cell". The screen should show the lighting spread out between Ambient, Sunlight, and Fog. Open the collapsable list of interiors and find a Balmora or Suran house and copy or approximate the values.

I think the rule is that after three reviews, a new showcase has to be prepared... I would much like to see you "take it from the top", if you will, and make a new interior in a similar way, maybe coming up with some new ideas for cluttering and such.
Good luck and happy modding!

Here's my new interior, it's named Kasrkin Saser's House. I stayed with a similar style with the previous house but change alot of things. For starters, it is meant to belong to a Dunmer who has an interest in alchemy and Dwemer artefacts, and the interior shape is different with new tapestries and decorations.

Looks nice at a first glance. A couple remarks, not a review:

Please avoid the word "adventurer" whenever you can. "Hireling" could work just as well, or refer by the name?

The NPC inhabiting your house seems to eat without spoons, forks and knives.

Sorry to disappoint, but I fear KS_notetoadventurer and misc_dwrv_artifact10 need some rotation and flooring. Just resting on 1 corner is not enough.

Some more remarks on rotation (you did it right often enough but some things are off):

Spoons and stuff are imperial so we shouldn't use them in dunmer interiors, at least thats what I was told some time ago.

BTW ingred_scrib_jelly_01 bleeds too much.

You might have confused Dunmer with Americans here. Dunmer do have utensils like spoons and forks; they just shouldn't be silverware. There are wooden ones, at least.
