TR's NPC Heads
Faces thread go
1- Dark Elf: TR already has an additional 19 "generic" Dunmer heads, and Ashstaar made some awesome heads which surely will be getting into Data... any... time... now...
Are more needed? Wanted? Would it be interesting to have a few faces reserved for each Great House for instance? Or some exclusive ones for Dres?
2- Beasts: need more heads (this isn't a question, beasts NEED more heads, they have 3 each)
3- Other races: TR has an additional 1-2 for each race. Are more desirable?
4- Unique faces: TR aimed for some unique faces, currently has them for Telvanni lords, and a couple of unimportant 'important' NPCs - Helnim governor, wife, a... barman?(?!). Are there upcoming NPCs that could use unique faces?
5- Style; over the years the MW community has released literally hundreds of new heads as resources. Most of them are stylistically inappropriate. Some are too high quality and would look out of place compared to vanilla faces; on the other hand, a lot of players use graphics mods, and TR's custom faces must already look terribly crude compared to replaced vanilla faces. What do?
Also, is it a problem if a face doesn't blink?
^note: for all the above assume "face" or "head" means "face &/or hair". When it comes to just increasing variety they work multiplicatively, and new hair might be enough for distinct House looks.

Yes to House specific heads and hairstyles. Morrowind storytelling is mainly presented through visuals, so making Hlaalu look imperialized (for example, Imperial-styled hair is a new trend among young nobles in Narsis), or Dres look... Dres-y (as they should be the most outlandish with their face-tatoos and weird hair) would add a lot of depth to the mod. I mean, its not only the architecture or some new rocks that make particular region unique - I always believed that Dunmer Houses are like a different nations of the same race, and it should be reflected in their looks, clothing, and even names - especially in the Dres District.
About unique heads - I think they should be reserved for some really, really important NPCs, key players in particular questlines, such as House Councillors, high Imperial and Temple dignitaries and (maybe) leaders of the Guilds. Wifes and barmans are not that important :P I don't know about additional 'ordinary' heads for other races, but if we have the resources, then why not?
And about head replacers and TR - I don't think it should be a problem, modders will eventually make a head replacer specifically for TR custom heads for those madmen using mods such as better heads.;)

Ashtaar already made a few Dres-style hairs, so we already have a good start in that department. Haplo just needs to make sure he labels them properly when adding them to Data. As for new faces for the other races, I agree we certainly could use more options for Khajiit and Argonians.

Problem with some of the replacers out there is that they make everybody in this grungy, ash-swept country young, healthy, and attractive.rot wrote:5- Style; over the years the MW community has released literally hundreds of new heads as resources. Some of the older packs (Gorg's, Emma's, etc.) fit better with the original aesthetics, both in terms of polycount and in term of artistic direction; though it's not necessarily a good idea to use them. At least not those that are used as replacers.
IMO, yes. There is, however, a tutorial on animating heads, so this could be used to fix any interesting pack we find.rot wrote:Also, is it a problem if a face doesn't blink?
Also, another thing needed is more female faces and hairstyles, for all races. They was always more variety given to males, to the point that for the Dunmer, we have 44 male heads to 23 female ones, and 34 male hairdos to 26 female ones. Since the male-to-female NPC ratio should be close to 50/50, variety should follow.

The above values include unique parts. For reference, here's what we currently have as far as unique heads and hair go:
- Altmer f: 1 unique head (Eldale)
- Dunmer f: 4+1 unique heads (Faruna, Rathra, Telsaren, Governor Wife, Barenziah), 0+1 unique hair (Barenziah),
- Dunmer m: 7+1 unique heads (Helnim Lord, Rilvin Dral, Mithras, Mothrivra Guy, Vaerin, Dres Duke, Governor Son, Helseth), 1+1 unique hair (Governor Son, Helseth)
- Imperial f: 1 unique head (Firewatch Duchess)
- Imperial m: 3 unique heads (D. Flavius, Tulnus, Tunifus), 1 unique hair (Governor)
- Redguard m: 2 unique heads (Barman, Darnell)
Peterboy - that's great, maybe some special NPCs can use existing faces with new distinctive features?
on possible house styles,
Redoran: maybe give them bald (which TR doesn't yet have anywhere - edit: except the vanilla version with earrings) or short hair more often than other factions? Especially bald females? (edit: NO that looks really bad with their faces) A few singed, or even completely cut, ears. (reminder: ears come with hair) For faces, a few scarred variants?
Hlaalu: see attached for a rough idea of how Imperial hair looks on Dunmer. Could certainly benefit from being recoloured more in line with vanilla Dark Elf hair, but some of them look quite useable and I reckon it wouldn't take too much work to implement (I just shooped the Elf ears + a few corrections)
edit: male _02 / _08 are already used by Dunmer but the darker version would be more appropriate for them;
male _06 / _07 and _09 could 'cut it'...;
female _04 is already used (better), the others are stylistically not very different from the more groomed Dunmer female haircuts.
Telvanni: ?
Dres: Ashstaar's hair from concept art for males. More different ones for females?
Indoril: Ashstaar again, maybe a few more stuck-up noble looks?

I think we should avoid having the Dunmer use Imperial-looking hair; not only does it look ridiculously overgroomed on top of the ashen skin and marred faces of the Dunmer, but they also would probably consider it highly insulting to style their hair after the Imperials in the first place. Also it looks bad.

So bald Dunmer females for Redoran? WAY too obvious:
maybe with earrings? maybe with samurai chignons like the males'?
One or two other vanilla Dunmer hair would look even more Guile-military than the Imperials' straightest if it weren't for the earrings, which goes to show how important they are.
Still I feel the male imp _06, _07, _09 wouldn't look bad with necessary adjustments. The female imperial hair for the most part don't look very different from the more generic ones Dunmer already have, which on the other hands also means there's little point to using them...

That's easy, if I can get a list of special NPCs which need unique heads, that would be great.rot wrote:Peterboy - that's great, maybe some special NPCs can use existing faces with new distinctive features?
I can't promise anything, but I'll try to make some khajiit and argonian heads too.
I'll reanimate my old thread, and post the files there.

The imperial hair styles look... odd, plain, out of place on the Dunmers IMHO, although I understand the imperial wannabe Hlaalu concept

The longer hair for me is either Dres or just "simply" Dunmer. I love it, and if I ever start to play Morrowind again, I'll definietly use it for my char, with a red retex.
But when I hear Telvanni, I expect something weird, something crazy and over the top.
In my mind they are egocentric, eccentric and they don't give a dime of what others think.
But this is just my opinion

Just want to chime in and say that I agree that TR should not concern itself with matching the style of replacers people use nowadays. Most of them stray too far from the gritty feel the Dunmer have in the vanilla game.
I'm all for some House specific stylizing. We already know they prefer different styles of armor and clothing, so why not hair, tattoos, and earrings as well?

Whoah! Realy nice, especially the one on the leftRats wrote:Speaking of so-called House specific faces here are three tattooed female Dunmer retextures, one of them being explicitly Redoran.
The Redoran bug tattoo looks a bit out of place to me imho
(I never realized, that the Redorans have the Dagoth symbol incorporated in their crest)

Maybe it would be a good idea--based on the need for new NPC faces established in this thread and the discussion about the way the models/textures department works--to set up a proper set of claims for new heads and hairstyles? Say, like five new pieces for each race and gender to begin with? And maybe more for the Dunmer ones.
For the sake of argument is there a reason you think glow-mapped eyes would be bad?

Didn't mean that glow mapped eyes were "bad". More just pointing out the fact, and that none of the other faces in game so far are. It could be a nice effect if it is not overly bright. Haven't actually looked at them in game or the CS. They look really good in the pic though. The glow could be removed.
Reviving this thread a bit. I was thinking the Boethiah shrine cultist in TR NPC Claim 4-37-Red could really do with some tattooed/scarred faces, so I made a few. Would these be okay?

Also, regarding Ashstaar's Khajiit heads post: they look super and most of them should definitely be added to Data. I would remove the glow effect though.
edit: added a rar file containing the meshes and the textures
(these are in Data)

Made a couple of lady orc faces during lunch hour. One young, since there was no variant like that, and one old. Both lack facial scarification. Interested?
