On the subject of the 'Social Media Campaign'...

Post by Ironed Maidens »

It may or may not be my place to say anything but I was just wondering what the general idea was for the overhaul of the site structure in the social media aspect. I mean, what avenues exactly have you guys been looking at? I only ask because I'm really interested in how big projects like Skywind have a lot of modelers and voice actors behind them. I'm not saying you guys are hurting over here, but I would just love to see more people putting up showcases for all types of things, personally, and I can imagine everyone else here feels the same way. Like I said, may or may not be my part on anything to pry, because I know you guys don't want an invasive approach to getting more people into the project; as quality is better than quantity. But I also can only imagine how much easier it would be if there were multiple more persons working on new architecture sets, or weapons, or terrain models, or even new voice acting so that NPCs can just say more interesting things in passing.

Also, in the same vein, what about keeping the Tumblr updated regularly? IDEK, I know that you guys are really particular in the way you run things but I'm just saying, I want to try and get more people on board. Is there a "Head of Publicity" or something? I'm more than willing to find some talent or go scouting around or keep the public eye more focused in view of this project because I really enjoy it; but I want to make sure it's ok with you guys first..

It's absolutely your place, and I wish people weren't always so intimidated when asking us questions. I'm really glad someone finally brought this up. I have alot of thoughts on TR's Creative Direction, and I feel it's sort of our weak point. We're a 13 year old mod for a 13 year old game, and I feel our content (mostly speaking our older stuff) has come a bit stale in its' presentation. I feel in order to draw in creatives, we kind of have to demonstrate that we have something to offer to visual artists, be they painters, concept artits, modelers, texturers, etc. Right now I feel TR is a great mod, in a sense we can build beautiful things, but we haven't done enough to meaningfully expand Morrowind.

When TR engaged briefly with TESIV modding, we had a benefit of Oblivion being a fairly new game. We reached out to the community because we had to create Hammerfell, a province which had very little lore behind it. The result was that TR had to flesh out all of this before actually making it in the CS, and while we never got around to that part much, we attracted quite a few modelers, artists, and writers, representing (IMO) a golden age of creativity. Unfortunately when we spun HF away and moved back to solely working on TES3, I feel we kinda lost that.

Thing is Morrowind isn't fully fleshed out either, but alot of us have sort of underplayed the improtance the sorts of people you mentionmed are to fleshing out Morrowind. We definitely need these people, and I would be glad if more of these people showcased for TR. I think before we do that though, we need to present ourselves in a manner that attracts these people. I don't know if you haven't noticed, but I would check out our Master Plan document. We're sort of in the midsts of doiung just that, professionalizing TR beyond a simple mod project for an old game. It gets into detail, specifiying our plans for an "Art Assets Section". Right now our modeling section is poorly organized and alot of our stuff is really outdated.

As for social media, we currently use the following:
Facebook - This gets updated every now and then, usually only when something major happens. I would like to update this more often.
Twitter - This hasn't been updated in awhile.
Tumblr - This gets updated more often by Lady N, since she's on tumblr a bit. However, we've kinda run out of things to put up. I'm suggesting we add some cool lore texts or art, since Tumblr is well suited for eye-candy. I'd definitely like to showcase the creative side of TR more often, becasue I feel we're sorta lacking here.
deviantART - We have one, but this hasn't seen much activity since Hammerfell.

Anyways, TL:DR, I would be totally cool if you did some outreach and spread the word amongst creatives, because we certainly need them. Shoot me a PM and we can probably discuss this further!

I only say that because I know the people who've been here for a while (yourself included) may not want someone just waltzing in throwing out ideas. There's a lot of investment; both timely and emotional; that goes into it after that much time. But yeah, I've got some ideas too, if only because IRL I spent a lot of my time doing promoting for different things and in all honestly I have that 'entrepreneurial spirit'; I.E. being on the grind, so I know what it's like and I know how to round up the troops, so to say. In a delicate way. But yeah, I'll shoot you a PM man so we can colab on an idea. I've been scouting for a few months now with TR specifically in mind and I've seen some interesting opportunities for the growth of everything that's possible for the mod.

FWIW I also have some possibilities of doing recording myself, for various purposes. So there's always that. In the meantime, I'll gather all my thoughts into a cohesive form and then I'll PM you. I tend to take a second or two to make sure I can articulate everything in the way I'm envisioning it and I feel that this situation should be approached in a careful way, seeing as it has the possibility to take the project in a direction that can really up the ante. Thanks for the support and feedback though, I'm positive we can do some good things no matter what!

Hi!

I've thought about this a lot too. I've been working with social media campaigns somewhat and for example cranked my music blog up to 5'000 Facebook likes. I would be happy to help you and develop a social media strategy.

All the best!

Ok, I'm getting a message sent out via PM to Swiftoak. I'll get it over to you, too.
