Dres Architecture Set

Post by Haplo »

I'd like to straighten out what is going on with the Dres set at the moment. The latest knowledge I had was that MwGek was working on it until his hard drive crashed, and is no longer working on it. Talking with Swiftoak on IRC, however, I've learned that MwGek is once again working on it, and Adan is also working on it, but those statements have been either reiterated to mean different things or all but retracted in nearly the same breath.

This isn't the first time that I have found out just by coincidence on IRC that people may or may not have been working on entire projects with zero record (and zero WIP files) of it on the forums.

So, is anyone (MwGek, Adanorcil, or anyone else) currently working on the Dres Architecture set? If so, please say so here and either post your work (models and textures) here or in a claims thread, like this one, for example. That way we don't have problems if a hard drive crashes. And if no one is working on the Dres set, can we please stop making statements on IRC that suggest otherwise :-)

Somehow I believed it was still being worked on by Gek, but I read the thread again, and now I'm not so sure. Gek asked for it to be revoked on the 15th after a crash. He said he was going to upload newer files, but never got to it. The claim was eventually revoked in April. So I was wrong here.

As for Adan working on it, I only saw a picture of a wall tile, which I assumed was just experimentation outside the exterior set. I would post it if I still remembered the URL. He has expressed desire to tweak the exterior set up once Mwgek uploaded his latest files, which he hasn't.

In anycase, I don't think this is being worked on, but confirmation would be nice.

I apologize for making the confusing statments on IRC.

I am in no way working on the Dres tileset right now and I don't know where that idea came from. Several weeks ago I was fooling around with some potential interior textures, but that was purely out of boredom and not an attempt to be 'working' on something. Maybe Swiftoak misread that as me trying to expand the set?

I'm also not working on the Dres set. For now I'm waiting for all the talking and discussing on the forums to die down and we start to make some progress again. I'm hesitant to come up with new stuff which gets axed in another discussing about vision etc.

The latest file I got is including the niches and the (just for showing purpose, without lore background and reading random texts) alpha planes.

I doubt we'll be changing our vision again. The problem before was our lack of vision. With the master plan in place, any work done from now on will have a solid plan, meaning we won't have to axe things. I think most of the stuff that will be axed is our older stuff, and your model work is certainly not that.

The Dres set arguably one of the best pieces of architecture I have seen done for TR, and I'm very much a fan of the artistic direction you have taken. It really communicates the austere nature of the Deshaan's clans. I think it really works both in terms of visuals and concept, so I wouldn't hold back :P I'm sure many of us feel the same way.

Then again I understand if you're a little wary from the lack of technical progress. I definitely would love to see it start up again. :)

I don't think the Dres set is being reconsidered by anyone. Nor should it be.
