Elder Scrolls

Post by Dormichigan64 »

First of all, are we going to have a main quest for the mainland, and if so why not do something with the elder scrolls? Oblivion had them, Skyrim had them, and the name of the series itself is the Elder Scrolls. I mean, it wouldn't hurt, would it?

As far as I know, we haven't decided on whether or not we will make a traditional main quest for the mainland. The most likely scenario for one I can see happening would involve expanding Morrowind's main quest (which indirectly features the Elder Scrolls already: they told the Emperor about the Nerevarine Prophecy) so that it uses our lands too.

Since Oblivion or Skyrim already have quests that feature in-game Elder Scrolls, what reason is there for us to do the same? The novelty has already run its course. And how would an Elder Scroll find its way to Morrowind in the first place? I imagine the Empire keeps a tight watch on them.

It was just an idea. But why can't Morrowind have Elder Scrolls hidden within when Skyrim can? The dwarves could've kept one, like in Skyrim.

Maybe the main quest could involve something about Akavir since the Neravarine goes there, but maybe not because that's supposed to remain a mystery.

To be honest, I never knew why the series was called the Elder Scrolls. Now that I think about it each game is a prophecy recorded in the Elder Scrolls. Well, the more you no... I mean know.

I think adding elderscrolls into the mainquest in a way that would not be boring and overly formulaic would be very challenging. I rather like the subtle role the elderscrolls have in Morrowind at the moment. I think it helps make Morrowind seem like a place that is part of the Empire but not quite; the events that unfold in Morrowind have huge repercussions for the Empire and the elderscrolls narrative, but that narrative, the Empire and the elderscrolls themselves are all foreign interlopers in Morrowind. Morrowind is a proxy war in the elderscrolls series, and a very important one.
