Story:
The Unknown Depths of Dun Akafell
Along the road north of Dragon Glade, which leads towards Telvanni territory, one might stumble upon the nearly forgotten ruins of Dun Akafell. Once a great city, little more than rubble now appears on the surface, and a terrible curse endangers the surrounding lands and fills them with unknown evil. Deep below the surface lies the old city, it's former splendor all but forgotten.
The Dragon Nest Inn has been built near the ancient ruins in the highest treetops. Only there could it be safe, since at night creatures roam the lands to which there is nearly no defense, and the only place safe is high above ground. Here adventurers who plan to get loot from the ruins tend to spend the night. Most of them do not spend more then one. Sometimes the Inn is visited by archeologists as well, seeking a way to uncover the mysteries of the cursed city.
What great evil wanders within the chasms and the deepest bowels of the cursed city is unknown. There are rumours that some have entered the ruin, but no real accounts are known.

Dun Akafell's curse

It is unknown what curse rests on Dun Akafell. When Mournhold was at the peak of its splendor, another one of Almelexia's city, that is in its current cursed from known as Dun Akafell, contended for wealth and position to the capital. The original name of this city, however, has been lost thru the ages. After the battle of Mehrunes Dagon versus Sotha sil and Almalexia, Mourhnold city was destroyed and a black curse hit Almalexia's other major city. The source of this curse remains somewhat unknown, but the following account is commonly thought to be most accurate:

Almalexia made a pact with a Daedra prince called Peryite, the guardian of the lower levels of Oblivion. Almalexia asked for the help of this Daedra in the form of Spellbreaker, which was an artifact owned by Peryite which she needed to defeat Mehrunes Dagon. Apperantely, he asked a great favor in return; 900 first born males from city's the main noble families. Almalexia agreed his terms, planning to trick the Daedric Prince once she reached her goal.
After defeating Mehrunes Dagon, she decided not to pay the price, refusing to hand over the Dunmer nobles. Filled with rage, Peryite cursed the remaining city and all of its inhabitants, and made a major part of the city sink deep into the earth's soil. He put a sigil deep in his temple beneath the darkness of this city, and a guard, one of the higher Demi Daedra, to keep it safe until eternity. The key of the sygil is Spellbreaker, the same object that Almalexia used in the war versus Mehrunes Dagon, the same artifact that helped in the battle and that now lies in a distant Dwemer ruin called Bthuand. Beyond the sygil lies the Sancta sanctorum of the Pandaedrical temple, where Peryite sealed the cursed souls, whose spoiled and soulless remains are condemmned to restlessly walk the streets of their once beloved city forever.

What is true about this account and what is not, cannot be concluded easily. Almalexia has always denied any contact with the Daedric prince, and little is known about the city before it was cursed. Most probably the story was mystified and exaggerated thru the ages, although it is clear the site is still cursed. What lies beneath is, however, unknown and therefore the reliability of this account cannot be determined.

The ruins underground

Altogether, little can be concluded from all the accounts. What can be surely said is that the site is cursed, and that it should be avoided by any with common sense. Only the most daring and adventurous should get near the place, and only a mad and twisted adventurer might find himself a way into the ruin.
It is unlikely that the truth about the site will ever be revealed, it will probably remain a mystery forever.

NPC's Involved:

Lucius Androcius -- Quest Giver, member of Archeology guild in Narsis, rank 7, Imperial. Staying at the Dragon nest Inn, near the ruins.

Nithrol Alnor -- The old adventurer, he explored the ruins and knows the way to access it. Very paranoid and distressed. It will be hard getting the information you need from him.
Lives in house close to the eastern lighthouse on the Necrom Peninsula, Dunmer Rogue.

Thaenroth -- Innkeeper of the dragon nest inn, Bosmer, he knows rumours from around, some more than people in town, and some stories about survivors, but cannot give exact names or locations to find them. Can only point you to the archeologist staying in his Inn.

U -- Former lover of Nithrol Alnor, Dunmer. Alt Bosara
She knows that Nithrol Alnor has moved to the Necrom Peninsula. Does not know his exact location, but sends you in the right direction.

T -- Former friend of Nithrol Alnor, Dunmer.Helnim Watch
He also vaguely knows where Nithrol Alnor has moved together with his lover to the town of Alt Bosara, but can give additional information on his madness and tells you he might be able to give any clarity.

E -- Former innkeeper at dragonglade ,dragonglade, Dunmer.
To him you are directed when asking about Dun Akafell after hearing rumours in Dragonglade. He gives you a book with some shallow information on the site (something like the start of this post) and directs you to the Dragon Nest Inn. However, he does warn you not to travel by night. He knows about the Nithrol Alnor adventure and he will redirect u to his friend T in Helnim Watch.

Skyljird the Bold -- Deceased adventurer, Nord. He lies in the cave close to the Dragon Nest Inn. In his journal is writen what he and his two companions experienced on top of the ruins while searching for loot.

Erjik Bearfist -- Customer of the dragon nest inn, Nord. Brags about visiting the ruins often. Has a lot of tough stories, but credibility of most is low.

J -- High priest at the forbidden island, Narsis, what he knows...

I -- High priest at the Necrom temple,Necrom , Dunmer. what he knows...

G -- Innkeeper of the ... in town lllll, Dunmer. what he knows...

Dialouges:
Very little is known about the ruins underground. Only 'x' was ever able to enter the city with a party of five. None but himself returned, and he never wanted to tell anything about what he had seen. After his death, however, his notes were found, giving a glimpse on how the underground ruins look. The notes stop after one day, while he has been there for five. It is unknown why he did not write anything in those days. Here follows a section from his accout:

"We have travelled for hours and hours, thru rotten sewers and nearly collapsed caves. We have decided to take a small rest before venturing any deeper down into the ruin. The last hour has been without a fight, however we can hear tormented screams and hysteric laughter getting louder with every step we take. The fear is building up in each our hearts though we all try to hide it.
We have again set out to explore the ruin, and still we were going ever deeper into the ground. The screams get louder and with every step I take, I feel we should not go any further, but should return to the surface, leaving this cursed place to rest.

What has happened today, I am not sure. It has all been a rush and I am weary and footsore.
Reaching the end of the long winding tunnels, we entered the ancient city and saw something that once had been a square or a plaza, surrounded by buildings of class, now all but perished. But this was not the first thing to draw our attention. The old streets of the city were swarming with creatures too horrid too describe, wandering restless and aimless. That is until we were seen. A great fight started, and although at first we felt like we were winning, it did not take long before we faced a group of foes too strong to combat. Two of my companions were struck down, their flesh ripped from their bodies. We were forced to leave their bodies behind and soon another one of my companions fell as we were being cornered. Now only two of us remained, my friend Aelroth and me. We decided to make a run for it, yet we could not get far ahead. We kept on going and going, up into the worn sewers and tunnels, while Aelroth tried harder with every step he took not too fall behind.
Finally, after hours of running the screams of those behind us started to fade, and it became clear to us they had broke off their pursuit.
Now we both lay here battered and wounded. I am unsure whether we will both make it to the surface. We have taken another route up than we have taken down, and we feel lost. There are no maps of this cursed place. No one has ever ventured inside, and I am beginning to understand why.
Again strange sounds have started echoing thru the tunnel. But this time they are not just tormented screams. Something else is coming, yet I am unsure whether I want to know what it is."

It clearly states there is a city underground and according to everything known about the site, it should be Almalexia's ancient city. It also tells us of indescribable horrors that were seen in the underground city, and even a hero such as 'x', who had proven himself of great courage and strength thru the long years of his life, was terrified and forced to wtihdraw from the ruins.
There are other accounts of adventurers trying to enter the cursed ruins as well. None of these succeeded in entering the site, but some of the accounts do give some valuable information on what foes one might find and how to fight them. Here follows the account of Siloth Eleseroth, an adventurer who attempted to enter the ruin in search of loot:
"I had only two companions with me. We had not heard much of the place, only that it does not attract tourism, and that we should stay away during the night. Well, we were a bit cocky; having just been accepted into the ranks of the Imperial Legion, we wanted to bring something back to show them that they weren't wasting their time on us.
We stayed at the Dragons Nest Inn to prepare for our adventure. We ate a small lunch, then left at dark. The innkeeper tried to warn us, but I only patted my sword. In all truth, my heart was pounding. But I wasn't about to show my companions any sign of fear.
We crept through the low hills and thick trees, each trying to be inconspicuously silent. We heard low sounds, but could not make them out. I disregarded them as the local wildlife. None of us had studied up on the area before we arrived. We were completely unprepared. As a result, we had not made it halfway to Dun Akafell before we were being hunted. The first to die was Dagaon Urik, my closest friend. As we were creeping along towards the ruin, a dark figure came out of nowhere and jumped right onto him. It raised its long gleaming arms into the air, and then dropping them into the soft flesh of my friend and began tearing his flesh out. His screams did not last long. Imstad Yalvua and I ran back towards the inn, screaming for help! Imstad fell; I did not stop to try to save him. I just kept running. I didn’t even hear him scream, but I saw a piece of what looked like his body land just ahead of me.
Somehow I ended up at Dun Akafell. I don’t know how I got turned around, or where, or when. But there I was. This place looked like a large maze. There were giant structures, half broken, strewn about. There were buildings place in ditches, upon high rocks or cliffs; tall canals were built everywhere, and some canals’ purpose eluded me completely due to their position and direction. The ruin looked like absolute chaos.
I made my way to the highest spot I could find, something that looked like a large outside throne. Throughout the night I could hear rustling below me. The things were trying to get up there. I could hear rocks fall. But the noises slowly subsided. I had almost fallen asleep when I noticed that the sounds had started up again, and they were closer, almost right next to me. I jumped up and unsheathed my sword, spinning in a large circle to fend off all sides. But I saw nothing.
I waited. Suddenly I knew what was happening. My surroundings began to grow clearer as my eyes adjusted to the dark light once again. I noticed that there were shapes that did not grow any clearer, but stood out against the background. These creatures were all over! Suddenly they all lunged towards me. I swung my sword in a long arc, hitting only one of the creatures. One tackled me, causing me to drop my sword. The force of the impact pushed me towards the edge of the high rock, and my struggling caused me to fall off. I hit the ground hard, but the creature had released me. I forced myself to get up and limp out of the premises of the ruin. I did not know where to go; I only knew that I had to get out of there. I heard the creatures screaming, possibly communicating. They were coming after me. I remembered the inn, and got an idea. I climbed a tree."

Guardian of the inner Sanctum of the PanDaedric Temple... he is summoned when the Gates are open with the key ... he has in control all the creatures of the ruins and will fight anyone who will try to enter the room or steal the sygil of Peryite ...simbol of the pact made....

Spell Breaker, superficially a Dwarven tower shield, is one of the most ancient relics of Tamriel. Aside from its historic importance dating from the Battle of Rourken-Shalidor, the Spell Breaker protects its wielder almost completely from any spellcaster, either by dispelling magicks or silencing any mage about to cast a spell. It is said that the Breaker still searches for its original owner, and will not remain the property of any one else for long. For most, possessing Spell Breaker for any time is power enough.

the location is knowed only by two ways

One of the Mages Guild member in Narsis says that the shield is in Bthuand Dwemer ruin, but it needs a deal with an ancient vampire before it can be activated.

The stone walls of the temple tell about the ruins that hold the precious artifact after the use by Al,alexia...

from Legolas.....

I thought of an idea that will alter the quest a bit but will give it more of an eerie feel. Instead of that guy who went into the ruin dying, why not make it like a Jaws scene except in the bar. I can picture it.

It was a quiet night in the Dragon Nest Inn. You walk into the bar to get a drink. The people in the bar are the bartender, a few guys at a table talking and drinking, and an old man in a dark cloak in the corner smoking a skooma pipe. He is there a lot, and he has never talked to anyone before. Sometimes people hear him in the corner mumbling words to himself in the darkness of his cloak. You go to talk to the other guys in the bar. Your conversation eventually leads to the topic on Dun Akafell. That is when the old mysterious man chimes in. His voice was scratchy gloomy, similar to one of a dark elf's. He begins to speak.

"I...I once went below, below into the ruin. Only a fool...a brave fool...would go into it. I was that brave fool...I and my four men. We went below, into the deep...rotten sewers of the city. We encountered horrible creatures...creatures that didn't have a trace of good in them. We...fought through them for hours...making our way...deeper...and deeper...into the ruin. Eventually...we came to a point were we no longer needed to fight off those creatures...yet...the worst was yet to come. We heard horrifying sounds...screeching...screams of torture...hysterical laughter...pure chaos. We continued our quest...and what we saw next was...horror...horror beyond what you could ever imagine. An ancient city...burried deep within the earth...the streets...filled with...creatures...creatures too horrid to describe...lingering on with their miserable lives...trapped in our world without a purpose. They saw us...and the fight broke out. We were defending ourselves well...but that ended shortly. They got two of my men. Their flesh...ripped apart...their bodies were swarmed by these...creatures...one by one each of them got a turn at ripping their flesh out. The three of us ran...we ran as hard as we could. We didn't know where we were going...but anywhere was better than here. It wasn't long until another one of my men fell behind...he too was swarmed by these beasts...ending up the same as my other two had become. Just me and my companion...Aelroth...were left. We managed to lose them...escaping into a cavern. We stayed cramped in a dark cavern. We knew what would become of our fate...we knew that we would end up as our companions did. We stayed there...for days it seemed...cramped up...with no food...no water...
(the man begins to heavily pant his every line)
...we kept...hearing...horrible sounds...from the tunnel. They were coming...we knew it...but...it was more. Some...something...bigger...something...something...that...we...did...not...want...to...or...should...see...som...som...something...(use this last word as a clue to what he saw. Maybe an adjective.)"

With his last word, the old man fell over. His skin turned white...he was dead...

i think we decided more for

2 guys

one that surfaced the ruins and eventually escaped dying in a close cave after having written a little journal..

the second wich is the main adventuirer now an old man retired by action instead is fleed away from that place seeking tranquillity and recover near the Sacred Necrom Lighthouse ... there should be here near just a nice house to hospit him...

he has to be traked back throught severall towns who saw him pass like helnim whatch and alt bosara....

Quote:
thought we weren't going to do anything to Vvardenfell???? We were only going to allow bolt on things to do this.

this doesn´t touches anythging in VVanderfell
the shield is really exhistent and placed there ... we just say where to find it (in that dwemer ruin in vvanderfell)and we ´ll add a script to the gates not to the object that will allow the player to open it while having this object so actually we doi not touch anything at all...

Quote:
While you are down here finding your way to wherever the ruin leads you, the tortured souls escape to torturize the rest of Morrowind. Sailen Vulgate, Dragon Glade, and Necrom send forces to fight these souls, and the battles go on until you finish the quest under Dun Akafell

One of the quest givers may be could be an evil wizard that asks you to help the ruins and recover for him the sygil of inside the sancta sanctorum ....

explaining u that this will help the pour souls...but in reality uses u to arrive to that sygil and evoke the Daedra to spread his power throught the use of his armies closed in the ruins...so he could compare at the side of the Demi daedra facing u (only if this way of quest giving is choosen) if the Demi Daedra is killed the souls are free .. if not the souls are under his commands...

note the Demi Daedra must be killed on the first spot or he will escape the city and u´ll have to track him back from town to town to stop him from spreading his masters plagues on the region...
_________________

what about those quest givers:

cave

the pc enters a cave where he finds the body of a dead adventurer who wrote the last words in his journal for the ones who could find him in the future couse he can´t fasce the enemies outside and he is wounded heavily....reading the journal the player knows about the ruins..would be treasures inside of it... rumors about the city that can be collected in town and the dragon nest inn...

Alt Bosara

a wizard hires u to fint the sygil od Daedra located in a distant ruin deep in the dragonglade´surroundings ... his intentions are of making u reach the sancta sanctorum ... open the gates with the shield key but not to release the souls from the curse couse he wan´t s to use the Demi Daedra power over them to take advantage of this and unleash that power for conquer purpouses on the region around

Dun Akafell

an archeologist exploring the ruins asks u to help him to explore the ruins and discover what are they ...why they where built..what happened to that city and says that every treasure u´ll find will be yours except for any valuable archeological object discovered ..he will eventually give the subquest of retrieving the stone tablets from the Monastery in the forbidden island in Narsis to discover the secret of how entering the site...

Dun Akafell areas

the player get involved in sudden fights with unknown creatures of the night who pursue him till the day or a safe place then he decides to investigate the ruins....according to legends and rumors collected around

Lover in despair

a beautifull dunmer girl is asking everyone to help her boyfriend who left for seeking some treasures in the ruins... he wanted tocollect some money to have the right to marry the dunmer girl and to be proved a worthly warrior to the eyes of her family ... but are days that he never returned so she is really troubling herself about what could have happened to him ...but nobody seems willing to help her...
this could lead to a first inspection of the ruins...

Rumors around the city of Dragonglade

the rumors in the city apart from the ruins itself could lead to the former friends of the adventurer who entered inside the ruins but tthat now has went away ..so could open the subquest for traking him and get the knowledge to enter the site

For the most part the story seems plausable lore wise, there are just a couple things though. At the timeframe you guys are talking about Mournhold wasn't one of Almalexia's cities, it only became hers after its initial destruction. So perhaps you could say that Dun Akafell was her original city, then after they were both destroyed she decided to make her new home in the newly rebuilt Mournhold because of the reasons that are mentioned in the 2920 books.

Also it strikes me as a little odd that she would strike a deal with Peryite for Spellbreaker while battling Dagon. But I guess Sotha Sil could have been keeping Dagon busy while she got the sheild.

Thanks for the info on Mournhold Nazz.

Yes I was thinking the same thing about the fight, but I think it can be explained your way (that was somewhat the same thing I was thinking too).

well i tought that Mournhold was hers becouse of the many statues of her in that city...'
So perhaps you could say that Dun Akafell was her original city,
but it is fine for me ur solution...
Also it strikes me as a little odd that she would strike a deal with Peryite for Spellbreaker while battling Dagon. But I guess Sotha Sil could have been keeping Dagon busy while she got the sheild.
the deal was made much befoure battling with Dagon ...knowing that she would have needed any help to defeat the powerfull Daedra she decided to ask The help of Peyirte in the form of the Spellbreaker shield....

about legolas idea

i do not quite much agree on it becouse...

there are 2 quests about finding how to enter the ruins...

1 the archeologist way ... going to retrieve the anciebnt stone tablets from the Narsis monastery on the Forbidden island

2 the survivor way ..... going in search of the last survivor who has to be traked throught the places that he travelled in till reaching the Necrom Temple where they´ll tell u that a person corrisponding to that hape but with a different naame was living close to the lighthouse......here he will be reluctant to remember ... anuyway he has to be convinced and to be in good memory cionditions to remember how to explain the pc how to access the site....

Ok, I forget you decided to make him living. I like that better than finding his notes after he's dead. Having two quests is better because each one could lead you a into a different way which may mean different things.

Well then my question becomes, how did Almalexia know she was going to be fighting some Daedra in the future? Or did she get spellbreaker as a "just in case one of the Princes comes stomping around" kind of thing?

You're right there if she didn't know before, I don't have the full background on the Mehrunes-Lexie/Seth fight, so that's up to lore-people and Prom to discuss.

It seems fine to me, however, that the deal was made during the fight, that would also explain why she took the deal, since she was in a hurry not to let Sotha stand alone for too long - therefore she quickly agreed to Peryite's terms.

that seems a quite good explanation...

anyway about the preknowledge of Almalexia i think that can be explained that she knew that she would have had to fight the Daedra at least one year befoure due to divination powers...so she was prepared to thet battle...altough u could find a better suitting solution for us becouse u know better the lore .....

Will the Dun Akafell quest still apply to Dun Akafell even after we cannot use our first intention of the ruin?
