Staff of Chaos

Post by Janus »

What is about the Staff of Chaos? This Staff was used by Jagar Tharn to become Emperor of Tamriel and to indeed and fraud Uriel Septim. It would be a very nice reward for doing the cyrodiil mainquest (or something else).

If you want to know more about this Staff read this.

Check out the TR mainquest thread in the Quests forum. At this point the item is a part of it.

Would you be able to wield it as a weapon? If so, what enchantments or scripting would be present on it so as to not create a totally uber-weapon and also to not make it too weak and therefore pointless to hold onto? Modeling it would be a large task, I would think, so that it would look good enough.

nope, just a golden staff with a crystall thingy on it. Nothing too special. Does anyone know what happened to it in Arena? I never beat the game.

thats perilously close to the staff of magius, earl.

Bethsoft took a LOT of their ideas for lore from fantasy books and other things like that.
If it doesnt hurt lore too much, I'd suggest taking the claws off, and or making the shaft metal

I think that Beth's Syaff of Chaos look kinda...plain. I think reall Staf of Chaos must look..chaotic. Look at daedric weapons for inspiration.

I think it should look really clean, just as it is. It's actualy power is hidden, it looks like a plain staff to the untrained eye. The contrast is what makes it nice, such a perfectly plain and simple staff that has such power and potential. Making some mega-über-super-daedric-like-superpowerstaff out of it doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

It was simply made by nightengale to emprison the emporer. No uber no unique and special just a random looking misc staff that an imperial battlemage would have lying around. At least in look.

I thought the nightinggale (Jagar Tharn) stole the staff of chaos from someplace locked away in Morrowind. At least that's what it says in the real barenziah I believe. I don't think he actually made it. In arena it says something of it being made from the earth or something like that...can't remember.

edit: He also used the staff to kill that one chick before she could warn the elder council.

Yeap. Jagarn haven't made it. He stole it. Maybe a plain stuff idea is good but I always though that Staff of Chaos must look chaotic. Maybe I was wrong after all...

yeah that's right he had to steal the horn and stuff to find it. However Beth was fairly good at making it look the same everywhere the added it ingame. Also choas tends to be a bit more subtle look at shoegarath for example. He is madness personified and he looks fairly normal. And the staff created a fair amount of chaos so I don't think the looks are whats important.
Plus I would think artifacts of great power would be able to change what they look like depending on the will of the owner.

Without the claws, it would look like a ball resting on a stick. It'd look kinda weird. Plus, it's bethesda lore afterall.

I double haplo. The claws should be remove and just 4 "holders" added for the crystal ball. I think it'll look much better than.

Blad, that would unbalance the game. Furthermore, would the player be knowledgeable enough in magic to be able to release that much power from it? I believe Jagar Tharn was the imperial battlemage (don't quote me on that...I don't remember 100%), so naturally, he would have a wealth of magical knowledge. Of course this is looking from a more realism point of view than a game mechanics view.

I still kinda think we should stick with Bethesda's original style for the staff. Maybe we can change it a little bit though, since I'm sure that Auriel's bow and ebony mail have changed a little since arena ;).

We'll just make sure the creatures toughen up depending on he/she has the staff or not.. Remember if we make it suck dmg wise it will only be usuable by a mage *think reflect for animal properties* mauahah

I think we should keep the staff the same. Seeing as how we are using official Bethsoft lore, why wouldn't we use the official design? Keep the design the same I say, and it would look goofy without the claws. As previously stated it also shouldn't look like a uber weapon, or have the power of one. The design should be left the same, the staff should have weak attack power though, but should be enchanted with a powerful spell. An interesting idea would be able to mark a place with the staff, then be able to use a recall spell on the person you use it on. It would send them right to the marked spot. Great idea if you ask me, and it would follow the background of the staff, as it was used by Jagar Tharn to teleport someone wherever he wanted them. Just my opinion though.

Plain but....

Post by BalinMinister »

I agree the staff should be a plain one, not grand at all by the least bit, perhaps the player that does not take the time to look at "plain" objects and instead goes for the shiny, mulitcolored objects would lose out on this staff....perhaps a quest of sorts?

Regardless...does anyone have a picture of what Bethesda's Staff of Chaos looks like...i never played Arena myslef.

A picture of the staff was posted in a previous post. So if it will be incorporated into the mod, how so? I agree with Balin Minister. Maybe the staff should be placed with many impressive looking weapons in maybe a vault or something. What became of the staff after Arena? I never finished it so I dont know. But say if it were lost, maybe you could uncover Jagar Tharn's secret dungeon or something? I dunno, but I feel simplicity is necessary in the design.

I agree with the Walrus dude and Sniper4. I think that we should stick to the Lore, like it says on the main page, we wanna'keep it the way Bethesda would have done it, and Bethesda created a pic, so thats the way it should remain.

Unless the proposed Tamriel main quest has changed drastically since I last checked, the Staff of Chaos isn't that big of a concern -- it's what the bad guys will use to control a Numidia (and you'll never have the opportunity to possess it yourself before that point). Being that that is end-of-the-game stuff, and we're nowhere near that point, we don't need to worry about it yet.

Maybe we could create a Script which prevents that the Staff could be used by Players with Low Levels. For Example a Script what will Kill everyone without Level 50 or higher. If we are able to do this we can also make the Staff very powerfull. And it should be very good hidden and guarded.

I think the staff should stay the way it is and just make it with 1150 enchantment points.

Looks good. But I suggest making a sphere blue and adding glowmap to it so it'll glow in dark.

yes, the sphere means all. Glowmaps, transparency, Animated textures, and paticle effects inside! that would make it sw33t.

How would you control Numidium with the Staff of Chaos? You need something like the Totem, or Lorkhan's Heart, or you would have to make an entirely new totem. Also, wouldn't this be hard to implement, considering the enchantment on it causes chaos all around Tamriel?

well beth lore or not, bethesda ripped the design from dragonlance, and thats cheap in my opinion. It won't hurt if we change the 3 claws to 4 little prongs to hold it in.

Is someone creating the Staff of Chaos or not? If not, will it ever be created? For information about the Staff of Chaos, see the stickied List of Artifacts post.

but i'm not going to put a lot of work in it at the moment because it isn't needed yet and there are plenty other things to moddel.

NO!!!!! The Staff of Chaos was destroyed!!!! Look into the Imperial Library for more information.
