Insect Swarms
Okay, this has either been already mentioned or is a stupid idea (or both), but I was thinking in the Black Marsh, though that is YEARS away, we could have insect swarms like the Ashlands have dust storms. And instead of covering your eyes with your arms, you could constantly be slapping yourself to get the bugs off.
Just an idea...
Just an idea...

you hit the nail on the head therePsyborg wrote:...is a stupid idea...
This has been discused a little, but the trick is the method of execution here. I can think of three ways of doing this. We could make them a creature, but then that would look silly when you fired an arrow through a swarm of insects and they all die. You could (like you mentioned) make it a weather condition, which is an interesting idea but one hell of an insect swarm. Or we could make them animated statics like in the Bitter Coast sounds mod, but then they would not have any sort of interaction with the player they would just swarm around wherever we placed them.
and for the record I do not think its a stupid idea.

Right, child. Now go play somewhere, preferredly off these Froums.
I like the insect swarm idea. Maybe indeed as a static, as those in teh BC SFX. Maybe make a big one that causes damage when you collide with it, and script it to move. That would surely add to the experience of Argon Jungle.

Well naturally the sounds will add alot to the enviroment, especially the buzz of insects, but a swarm if done properly would be interesting. I think a static(activator actually) would be better for this then an actual weather storm, unless of course it was for a special event like a plague type swarm or something, but not a constant thing.

agreed. however, the script that would be needed for this would be MASSIVE.
how about we make the swarms doing things like appearing near corpses in caves and jungles and such?

What about "Resist normal weapons" or does that not work for magical weapons?

Silver weapons will still work and I really see no reason why bugs should be hurt any more by silver or by magic (weapons) than anything else. Magic fire would work great.
It also is something to annoy people who like running around with super powerful equipment and slashing everything. Getting trounced by a bunch of bugs would be fittingly humiliating.

what i think is....
how about just having the insect swarms be fields of space where the PC walks through and they get different kinds of deseses.
I think the best way to do this would be to make the swarms a creature with like... 9999 agility, and a constant effect 9999 sanctuary. That way you couldn't hit them with a weapon. They'd still be quite vulnerable to magic, and should have very low health. The best thing to do would be to group them, so that a single swarm is relatively small, but you place them in groups of 6 or so, with them chained to follow one. So that one wanders, and all the others follow it. That way when you attack them with magic, they don't all die, unless you use an area effect spell. Obviously they shouldn't move extremely fast, and there should be some object that prevents them from attacking you. Of course, weapons with a damage spell would still be able to kill them, because even if you miss the damage spell still goes off, but this is about the most realistic implimentation I can think of. Having them carry diseases as well would add to the realism

Neato, dude. Very good idea, if this actually is done.
(By the way, I've noticed something interesting. This topic is brought up for approximately two days, then lapses into quiet for another month or so. It's pretty cool to watch, actually. This was the first thread I ever posted... methinks.)

very unique, very cool idea, but I don't even think you can add new weather effects to morrowind--thats hardwired into the program. I'd probably agree with having it as an animated static, though, like the flies you see in those bittercoast mods. Also, I recommend this feature be only available close to murkwood.
insect swarm is to blight swarm as
murkwood is to red mountain.

If true, that's a shame. Certainly there must be some parts of Tamriel with weather effects that don't show up in Morrowind or Solstheim. Windy tropical-type storms, sand storms (which I guess could be faked with ash storms), things of that nature.Savant wrote:I don't even think you can add new weather effects to morrowind--thats hardwired into the program.

Yep, that pretty well covers it.
